Re: Current roster
So im confused. King is on a 2 way, so is Saben Lee? What about Jaylen Hands and what about Sryvidis?

Sryvidis is probably on the actual roster. I think hands played for the Nets g league without ever signing a contract. So basically the state side version of a euro stash is my understanding.

Re: Current roster
So we've got King & Lee on 2 ways that don't count towards the roster.
Sirvydas
Musa
McGruder
Ellington
One of those 4 ain't staying because:
Rose, Hayes, Wright
Jackson, Svi
Grant, Bey
Blake, Sekou
Plumber, Stewart, Okafor
Hoping we don't stretch McGruder

Re: Current roster
Yeah, Detroit needed to get under the cap to fit in the Plumlee contract. So now ay cuts are straight up drops, no stretch needed.

Re: Current roster
bit of a bump for this thread but was just looking over the roster before we start preseason games.
one thing i noticed (and like) is the size and athleticism we have on the perimeter. two of our point guards are 6'5 with decent wingspans and we have a ton of athletic guys in the 6'8-6'9 range. obviously personnel/system play a big part in having an effective defense but those physical profiles bode well for defensive potential.
i think one of the most obvious weaknesses of the team is three point shooting. last season despite being a bad team overall, we were one of the better shooting teams. svi was the only guy (we had a lot) that shot over 35% from 3 that we kept and who knows what his role will be this season. other than that, the only other players on the roster you can call a good shooter are wayne ellington (who had a down season last year) and saddiq bey. to be honest i wouldn't be surprised if bey wasn't our best three point shooter this season.
we have guys that have shown flashes of shooting potential and i'm sure weaver is banking on those guys improving. until then i'm expecting the offense to have a lot of ugly moments.

You forgot to mention Svi and (at a lesser extend) Deividas as shooters.whitehops wrote:bit of a bump for this thread but was just looking over the roster before we start preseason games.

Re: Current roster
He mentioned Svi though.
I doubt Sirv gets any real minutes this coming season.
IF he does that means Wright, Jackson & Bey (among others) failed miserably

Maybe Svi lifted and took whatever Lebron and Wade were taking. He can shoot but he lacks the physical strength to guard 3s. But he had a LOOONNGG offseason to get jacked.
The guy can shoot for sure and there is no reason for him not to be a Reddick type 7th at the very least. Reddick took years to become Reddick. I mean it took Reddick 3-4 years to become something, then he wasnt a starter for another few years.
Svi is bigger than Reddick. Reddick is 6'2/6'3" and Svi is 6'7".
Where there is a will, there is a way for Svi. Did he take advantage of the 8 months to get himself ready to dominate?

Re: Current roster
from this video it looks like Josh Jackson is on the A team with Killian/Blake/Grant/Plumlee
Which totally makes sense to me. Don't know why Josh Jackson wouldn't be the starting SG with is talent level. He's not a bad shooter. You need your best defenders in the starting lineup.

You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Re: Current roster
If Josh Jackson has gotten it together that's an interesting starting lineup. Not the Bad Boys, but maybe the Big Boys.

1) Grant replaced Wood. Re-signing Wood would have been appropriate. The Pistons tore down most of the house that existed, and rebuilt it with new pieces. New younger more dynamic pieces: Hayes, Jackson, Bey, Stewart, Bradley, Okafor, Musa
2) There is no evidence that Grant is an overpaid. The market (Denver) offered Grant the amount he got from the Pistons. Grant showed up big in the playoffs. Grant can defend the entire floor.
There is nothing dynamic about Bradley, Okafor, or Musa. Those guys are depth pieces at best, and placeholders of roster spots at worst. They are categorically irrelevant.
Again, Denver had just coughed up a 1st round pick for Grant at the trade deadline. They were chasing trying not losing him for only a 1/2 season rental thus were willing to match Detroit's offer. In addition, just because another team was willing to pay the same amount, in no way does that mean that a player is not overpaid. Also, have to factor in team situation into the equation. Wouldn't have been a terrible signing for Denver all things considered, but for Detroit its a bad signing from every angle.
1) I agree. Hayes, Jackson, Bey, and Stewart have the young and dynamic more than covered. Any positive thing Okafor or Musa do takes the young dynamic contribution way over the top.
2) I agree also. It doesn't mean he's overpaid either.

Re: Current roster
Trading Rose to Knicks for a draft pick and signing Thomas Heurtel may help this team more that Rose staying.
A Steve Nash type facilitator would make the offense flow better.

Re: Current roster
Rose has already been told he is in the mentoring Hayes role to start out the season, if he gets moved it likely won't be until the deadline unless an offer too good to refuse comes along but most likely he is here til March.
