Houston having quite the year so far acquiring assets from teams:

Wood and a 1st rounder from us
4 1st rounders (+4 pick swaps) + Oladipo for Harden
KPJ for a 2nd rounder

i'm not gonna lie, it feels pretty good to see this trade. i remember so many people on this forum were excited to have the 30th pick and then angered when we traded back for a bunch of second round picks. now less than two years later porter is flipped for a single future second round pick.

obviously we used some of those picks to go get sirvydis which has the early makings of a wasted pick but that initial move is starting to look pretty decent.

There was other decent talent available. There's no knowing if the Pistons would have selected KPJ had the plan been to select with that pick rather than pursue a draft-and-stash who also happened to be the client of the son of one of the team's top executives.

In any event, the net total return for that 30th pick currently stands at Sirvydis, Toronto's 2021 2nd and $3 million in cash. That's not a great package if Sirvydis doesn't make anything of himself.

Let's also not assume KPJ has issues here given we've got Blake & DRose on the team to keep kids in line.

I'd like to think that if we kept him Blake & Rose would have been helpful. I think the play, energy and effort from Hayes, Stewart & Bey says as much.

Kids might not produce the results you want initially but their first couple of years are vital for setting them on the "right" path.

Cavs "mentors" are:

Love - mental health issues. Nothing wrong with that but as your established leader it can be a issue.

Dre - rarely motivated. No surprise he's playing well in a contract year.

Nance - worker more than a vocal leader simply because he's not one of the main focal points on the team.

There's a reason certain teams continually have issues, despite landing lottery pick after lottery pick after lottery pick.

Kings, Wizards, Wolves all say hi.

KPJ doesn't have "maturity issues". He flipped a car while driving without a license and carrying a gun and pot with him. He assaulted a woman in a club. He's burned bridges with his college and pro teams. The lockerroom stuff is just the latest in a long string of issues the guy has. He hasn't even played this year do to "personal problems."

To date the only thing Detroit has gotten out of that 1st round pick is 12 total points, 8 total assists, and 4 total rebounds out of Jordan Bone who was on a 2 way contract and is already off the team.

Sirvydis has played 2 total minutes on a terrible team and hasn't registered a single counting stat. All he is doing is wasting a roster spot.

In addition, just to get the 1st rounder that ended being wasted, Detroit had to take a crap player named Tony Snell which not only pushed them right up to the luxury tax line and forced them to dance around it all season, again. But even worse all his presence did was take minutes away from Brown/Sekou/Kennard/ Svi.

So yeah, I'm not going to congratulate the front office for anything here.

The actual snell, group of random picks, money for leuer is still basically a wash. As far as “we wouldn’t have drafted porter had we kept the pick” idea. We probably would have drafted Deividas Sirvydis at 30 so there’s no point to commenting on that.

Wouldn’t have minded getting porter for what Houston got him for. But honestly he’s either going to be a good player with baggage or a “whatever happened to” type story. No in between.

I'm happy that at least for the time being we don't appear to have any severe headcases on the team. I don't even see any big egos.

Maybe that's dumb luck or maybe it's by design from Weaver? Either way it's nice for a change.

(Let's see how well this post ages :) )

It was bad the way he worded it but I get what he was trying to say. Kinda like adding those crazy types we always have had on our championship teams like a Rasheed or something.

I could see this kid being a 17ppg type player if he gets it together long enough. I would have taken the gamble on him.

At least someone understood what I was going for.

As someone who has experienced enough mental stress, drama and bull in his life, took a long time to overcome a lot of different things:

It's a difficult situation to address on a basketball forum and via text with people who have no idea who you are or what beliefs you have.

Thanks Mo

That's even worse than what he said. Goodness. Are you two really both this horribly ignorant about mental health issues? Having mental health problems does not inherently make one an unstable wacko.

1 - you have no idea who you're talking to and what life experiences they may have

2 - no one used the phrase you just did so who's ignorant?

3 - I'm not about to tell my life story to some keyboard warrior who assumes to know what was intended simply because he has the time and inclination to make this bigger than I believe it should be.

Congrats on having the time, mental fortitude and ability to type whatever you choose, hoping to get a rise out of people.

I wish you a good day and may the Pistons land the #1 pick in the 2021 Draft so you have better things to occupy your time

Actually I'll take the time for you - been a long time in between dealing with keyboard warriors that wanna bring it.

Kinda miss my sig right now - anyone remember No Quarter? Is he still around?

"And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you"

My signature was the **** back in the day.

No Quarter & Mola - they still around?
