It’s the system and type of players we are drafting and signing. Out of everyone, Cade is the best to run that system. Not saying he’s Luka, it’s what we run and what the front office and coaching staff is setting up. To change that would be a shift in personnel, system, and mindset. Trey isn’t Luka either but that’s the system they’re running and running well.

You seem to be under the misconception that the only way to get cade into the lane is by him being faster or handling better. A pick is that bandaid to that. If we have 3 people out, and a roller/popper on the pick, Cade easily gets into the lane. Obviously Cade needs to work on strength and ballhandling, but Hayes ain't a penetrator. Moving to the high elbow and passing out/**** tier fall away floater ain't penetrating.
With his shooting ability, Cade is going to get overplayed on the perimeter. He will have no problem getting by guys out there one on one that is already clear to me. He does have things he needs to work on as well.
#1. What does he do after he blows by a defender overplaying his jumper. Right now he hasn't seemed overly good at flat out attacking the rim going into the defense. He also hasn't shown much of a floater game or short pull up jumper in this situation. He needs to get good at what the move is after he gets by his guy. Right now he is elite at step back jumpers but once the NBA starts overplaying that he has to make them pay by doing something once he beats his man off the dribble.
#2 How is he going to handle double teams at the NBA level. This is something Jerami Grant struggled with last year once the defenses focused in on what he was doing. Making the right passes out of the double team.
This rookie year we should see a lot of mistakes and growing pains with Cade when it comes to these two areas, but this is the year to really give him the ball and let him get better as the season goes on with it. You don't want a Simmons type situation in Philly where they didn't force the development because he was wanting to not make mistakes and wanted to play winning basketball. You want to keep forcing Cade into these situations so he can learn and get better. He said it himself after the Houston SL, he worked hard to get to the point where he's doubled and the focus of the defense and now he needs to face those situations so he can learn and get better at how to handle them at the NBA level.
Jerami Grant wasn't getting better, more comfortable, and more confident in his role in Denver when they told him to camp out at the 3 point line and not dribble... Jerami Grant got a lot better when he came to Detroit and was able to go out there last year and develop and make some mistakes along the way learning what its like to be the focal point of the defense. I'm expecting a big year from Grant with what he learned last year knowing what he needs to work on, and I think he can help Cade a bit as well with how to handle that defensive focus at the NBA level since he went through it last year with Detroit.
