You know what makes me sad, though? Even if we drop Jahlil, we already signed another jackass just like him in Lyles. Entitled, douche-y mostly non-performer that isn’t going to contribute to the culture we want.

I believe in Weaver, but both of those signings were head-scratchers.

In all seriousness, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out Weaver is superstitious. The odds with Okafor and the whole top thing is really weird.

So which side of the fence are we supposed to reside on? Is summer league worthless or does it provide a glimpse into a player's projection?

It depends on what's being evaluated.

A player showing that he hasn't exhibited a certain skill set yet--within reason for his position, obviously--doesn't mean he can't develop that skill set, i.e. should be dismissed after not exhibiting that certain skill set in two summer league games.

A player who exhibits a certain skill set in two summer league games has proved is he is capable of developing and utilizing that certain skill set. That can't be dismissed even though it's only in two summer league games.

Demonstration represents possibility/potential but a lack of demonstration does not represent the opposite, i.e. impossibility/no potential.

So basically,

If we like what we see, it means something.
If we don't like what we see, it doesn't mean anything.

Not all. More like "If we see it happen it's possible. But not seeing it happen doesn't mean it's impossible."

This applies to literally any situation.

Not seeing it happen, also doesn't mean it ever will happen.

If anything, you want to see it happen against lesser competition that way you feel better about the projection when the competition amps up.

On the same thought process, seeing it against lesser competition doesn't mean that it will happen in the regular season. But since you saw it against lesser competition, it gives you hope that said player can replicate the success against higher level competition.
