Yeah, keep in mind Lavine would have to take a pay cut to go from Chicago to Detroit. That's an obstacle you'd have to overcome with ANY max level free agent.

If the Bulls suck and don’t make the playoffs I think he leaves and loses the extra year on the table, or demands a sign and trade. Not probable, but possible.

It's not unthinkable that he may leave.

Didn't they close that loophole that allows guys to sign a max contract at their home teams' rate only to be immediately traded? Aren't sign and trades capped at the receiving teams' max now?

I think the original plan was to target the 2022 free agent class but as it dried up quickly the FO pivoted and it's why we handed out the deals we did.
