Is Frank Jackson the Pistons best guard defender?

Post#1 » by vic » Sun Aug 22, 2021 11:33 pm

Just copying and pasting this. I'm not sure if it's true just wanted to see if anyone could poke holes in it?

"Frank Jackson is known for his 40.7% 3 point shooting....

Did You Know? Frank was also one of the best defenders vs opposing guards.

League SG average is 43.9% 36% for 3s
League PG average is 43.4% 35% for 3s

FRANK JACKSON-allowed 38.8% FG 34.2% 3's

DIALLO-allowed 39.5% FG 34.3% 3's
JACKSON- allowed 44.2% FG 39.6% 3's
HAYES-allowed 44.7% FG 39.7% 3's
LEE-allowed 45.8% FG 42.4% 3's"
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

He is an OK defender, BUT its a small sample size and mostly against backup guards. We also were largely in tank mode the 2nd half of the season when Jackson was playing most.

If he was starting and putting up those defensive %s then we'd have something to talk about. In reality he likely more often was defending the weaker offensive guard on the floor as well.

Surprising to see those percentages because I would have thought Lee was a solid defender for a rookie but he allowed opposing guards to shoot the best percentages.

Most advanced metrics have Frank Jackson being below average defensively.

our tanking modus ist not the result of Bad shooting from opponents..i am with you that it was a small sample and against 2nd units but the tanking is no argument against

He's definitely not our best guard defender but this implies that he is a much better defender than I've been giving him credit for.

Just goes to show numbers aren't everything.

I don't recall him being the primary defender on anyone worth naming.

I don't recall him getting the toughest defensive assignment in a single game.

Love the fact FJ is a fan favourite but people gotta slow it down a bit

No. He's not. He's pretty scrappy, but he's guarding the lesser player most nights. He's the type of guy that will hold his own in a team defense, but just doesn't have the physical tools to guard some of the great athletes.

He's one of our worst defensive guards actually, if not the worst.

Diallo is a much better defender. I'd also put JJ above him, although not against PG's. Killian and Cade are also longer, better defenders. So, NO.

I'd say JJ has the best athletic gifts of the bunch just due to his combo of length and foot speed to guard. He was always touted for his defense, it was his offense that plagued his consistency that marred his image in the league.

Never really noticed FJ like that for our defense, that being said, he's not going to be a net negative out there
