The high end of that = playoffs & I just don't see it.

I'll jump into a gentleman's bet with you as well if you want. Bragging rights. If Cade performs, as expected out of a #1, I don't see how they don't at least make the play-in tournament.

I say that without having seen them play as a group yet. I'm pretty confident this team is going to outperform expectations.
So you're willing to bet that we make the play in?

Without seeing us play a single real game?

Yup. I'm pretty confident in this. It'll be close, but with the quality of players already on the roster, and the addition of Cade, i can see it. Obviously this hinges entirely on Cade, but he seems like he's going to make an immediate impact, I just don't know how large.

I could be horrifically wrong, and that will come into focus quickly in the first ten games, but what the hell. Haven't been this optimistic in quite some time.

Top 10 in the East make the play in...

Name 5 teams we're better than.

I'll wait.

Just took a peak at the early schedule and, holy that's a hellacious first 9 games especially for a team trying to piece together a starting rotation. Brooklyn twice, Philly twice, Milwaukee. Welcome to the League Cade.

That poster said he'd be very surprised if the Pistons made the play in so I think you misunderstood.

I think any realistic Pistons fan knows that this is likely a bottom 3 team in the east again.

The hard thing is, a few of the teams who were possible to jump ahead of got better. Maybe Toronto jumps in on the tank or perhaps Washington moves Beal and bottoms out but overall it is hard to look at the East as pick 5 teams we'll be better than. Its easy to say we can be better than Cleveland and Orlando but beyond that we're going to have to be better than expected and we need a few other teams to be a bit worse than expected to end up top 10 in the East. Right now I feel like we most likely win between 30-32 and finish 12th in the East ahead of Orlando, Cleveland and one of Washington, Toronto, or Indiana. Indiana isn't likely unless they move on from Sabonis or the Rick Carlisle hiring goes horribly wrong with some of their young guys not liking his style.
All depends on Cade. The Pistons already have several promising players in Grant, Bey, and Stewart. If Cade plays well, this team will be vastly improved from the jump.

I know its hard for Piston fans to believe the team will be improved, or even good, but that's what the tank was for. To land that uber talent. If Cade is that talent, the team will be better, and because of the pieces already in place, perhaps better then anyone of us realized. Thats a lot to put on a rookie, but thats why he was the #1 pick.

I would say there is almost no chance he is better than rookie Grant Hill, who was amazing for us leading us in scoring and rebounding and doing great handling the ball for us as well.... Of course its not completely fair to compare because Grant was a 4 year college player who played for a great college coach and program. Rookie Grant Hill got the Pistons to 28 wins, and they had two promising young 2nd year players also (Hunter & Houston/Bey & Stewart) as well as an established vet (Dumars/Grant).

Honestly rookie Cade and rookie Grant mirror each other quite a bit coming into the teams they are joining. If Cade could replicate Hill's first 3 years in Detroit bringing the team from 28 wins as a rookie, to 46 as a sophmore and then 54 in year three I think we would all be thrilled with those results.

I did say I’d be surprised if we make it haha I can’t even say we’re better than the other bottom feeders with any certainty since we all improved this offseason.
Even at the 6-10 spots it’s hard to see any teams dropping off.
Miami got stronger. boston lost guys but they’ll get brown back. Washington balanced the roster but I guess they have question marks. I’m not sure what Indy did tbh. Charlotte will continue to develop and Chicago went win now so they could be good.
It’ll be very tough. Even if Cade goes nuts and the other young guys take another step we’re still off the pace.

Playoffs at this stage aren’t really important. Just need to keep developing

Honestly think it would be a good thing for the young guys. Give them the right play calling and tools but put them through the fire. Let them fail successfully.

Who knows, maybe Cade comes out of the gate and debuts like Michael Carter William's did against the reigning champs Heatles in 2013.
