Think it's a quality choice given his years of experience developing young players.

Bit hard to understand why anyone would view this as us lining up a HC replacement so quickly after extending Casey though.

I don't think he would want it either after that experience. A great college coach, his strength is in developing and coaching younger players, not handling NBA veterans. He gave it a try and it's just not a fit.

Both he and the Cavs made a mistake with the hire. He wasn’t going to last long even without the whole thugs/slugs thing. He’s coached his last NBA game and yeah, I agree that there’s a good chance he wouldn’t even want another shot. You get the impression he really didn’t enjoy the last go around.

Lots of great college coaches don’t translate to the pros. John Calipari, Rick Pitino, etc.

He’s just another for the list.
There's literally NOTHING mistaken about securing 5 years $20 million, hell just the $20 million, from Beilein's end. Damn the results.

Why would it have been a negative?

Casey already had been traumatized and felt betrayed that he got fired after winning COY with Toronto and then his lead assistant Nurse took over and won a championship right after he left. I'd say putting a guy who like Beilein as a high paid lead assistant almost looks like the Pistons are lining up a Casey replacement. Of course, we know Casey just got an extension but overall I could see how Casey might not like Detroit brining in a high profile lead assistant to his staff he already has in place.

If the pistons had a situation similar to where experienced Lionel hollins and Jason Kidd are Vogel’s assistants with the Lakers or suddenly hired some great up and comer with ties to Weavers tenure with the Thunder (which I think Casey was part of the Thunder while Weaver was there), ok then you got something. But if the Pistons had hired him for an assistant role, it would more be just odd and give people something to complain about.

The Pistons just hired a guy whose good at helping develop players.

And to the person, not in this quote, who feels that John made a mistake going to the Cavs. He Tried The NBA For $20,000,000. Even if he had to give some of that back, that’s still not a mistake. He would’ve probably just retired from coaching and possibly taken an administrative position had the Cavs not hired him. So it’s basically $20,000,000 to try something.

I can easily see how a 68 year old guy that struggled to connect with NBA players during his 1/2 season of experience in the league wouldn't be great in a player development role in the NBA.

But we'll see.

Bruh your behavior reflects that of someone who sorely needs a woman. Or a man, if that's what you're in to.

I'm hoping for a miracle. If John beilein can unlock the potential of Josh Jackson the Pistons can be as good as any team in the east. Beileins certainly has the pedigree to do something like that. Between 2007 and 2019 his program sent 10 players to the NBA. None of which were 5 Star recruits. Josh Jackson is sitting on a gold mine of talent but he doesn't know how to use it hopefully beilein can unlock his potential

Listening to Josh talk it sounds like Beilein has already had an impact on him. He is for sure a wild card for us thia season.

Sounds like Josh knows he and Diallo will be the backup wings playing together and he also talked about how he likes playing with him because they both have a similar motor.... no quit keep going at you type of play.

Josh also mentioned how he has been working on 3s and FTs everyday this offseason.... and how he stayed in Detroit for most of the offseason to work on his game.

He for sure looks more comfortable in front of the camera, and at home here.
