The first game, when we have the starters on the floor will be super interesting to me. Cade is supposed to be the ideal modern NBA player.

Let's see how that goes, and how he impacts both the game, and the players around him.

I think he’s gonna be a god out there on the court and he’s gonna earn his spot as the leader. When I saw those 7 3’s in summer league my jaw dropped. I think we’re in for a beautiful surprise haha

It's funny you said that. One of the very few things summer league is good for, is evaluating whether or not a player can actually shoot the ball. Cade showed that he is a superb shooter, and can not only catch and shoot, but create from the 3 point line to get his shot, which is double deadly.

Anytime you have a player who can do these three things;

1.)Catch and shoot the 3
2.)Create and shoot the 3
3.)Create from the 3 to get open looks for others

You have a player who is absolutely deadly in initiating the offense, as it means 100% of the defenses attention has to be on the ball handler.(Lebron, Doncic, Irving, e.t.c.)

I'm pretty sure from watching him in college, and then summer league, he's going to be special, but you have to see it during actual NBA games for it to mean anything.

I see a bunch of people complaining about a bunch of stuff during the game threads, but remember, the Pistons landed the #1 pick, and in basketball, moreso then in any other sport, 1 player can make a huge difference to an entire team. If Cade is as special as people think he is, it will change the entire complexion of the team, immediately.

Any word on if Cade is playing tomorrow?

Strange getting used to some guys on different teams. Just watching YouTube highlights of games, Sci on the Raptors?. Dinwiddy with Washington? Every year it Sims so weird for a while until you get used to all the players being on their new teams.

Montrez Harold also with Washington, I barely got used to him being on the Lakers last year.

As Jalen Green is finding out(scored fewer points than Killian last night and played more minutes), Summer league and G league are a lot different than real NBA games

Cade and this team will need time to get comfortable, like, you know, more than 25 career games. Half way through the season we will have a much better idea of what Cade is really like in this league.

Also, as I said before, it looks obvious that Weaver is building in the classic Pistons team concept, meaning he wants the 5, 6,7 guys in double figures. That type of team probably won't afford one player enough shots to be even close to leading the league in scoring.

Cade will already be sharing shots with Grant and Bey in the starting lineups, and you know guys like Josh Jackson and Frank Jackson and such are not going to be shy about taking shots.

I'm afraid some are going to be disappointed if they don't see Cade scoring 23, 24, 25 a game. I would be thrilled if he averaged 17 or 18 a game in his rookie year.

We all know Grant fancies himself as THE GUY here and loves to score and it will be hard for Bey and Cade to pry the ball out of his hands so they can get their own shots up.

It will be interesting to see how Grant handles the dynamics with Cade soon playing on this team. Will Cade try to just kind of melt in for a time, will Grant actively try to get him going or just keep taking the shots he takes and let Cade worry about Cade? It's going to be very interesting to see the first few games Cade plays. I'll be watching Grant's game almost as much as Cades.

With CoJo and other PG's on the team, probably best to trade Hayes for some journeyman and future 2nd rounder.

Seeing Sekou signing a two way contract with the Lakers seems pretty ironic. He played himself into being an injury away from a chance for a ring. At least Houston's paying him this guaranteed money instead of us.

I just watched the replay -- my, that was fugly.
Dwane Casey seemed to think we need more "attention to detail".
A 35-point loss isn't "attention to detail". Sheesh.

It's probably for his lower body work due to his injury to his hips last year. It'd be idiotic for their strength and physical coach to only strengthen hips or legs since the muscles work in tandem top to bottom in the entire kinetic chain

So likely went the extra mile to add strength everywhere

That makes sense. I’m just discouraged because of his scoring game. I really thought he’d make some kind of improvement in the off season like Bey or Saben did. I thought he would be a decent NBA player this year.

That along with Cade getting a slow start just sucks. I thought they had a chance at 30 wins this season but it’s just not looking too good now. I wasn’t big on another tanking season.

Vegas has the odds at 25.5 which frankly seems right but my gut says that's a tad bit higher. But those who are over at 35 wins has gotta to be shaking right now. Even 30 wins might be a long shot considering we have shaky scoring and defense isn't nearly there as a young team

It's really going to be us, Orlando and OKC again in the bastard bowl

I think part of Hayes beefing up is so that he can endure more contact as he drives to the basket. If it's going to take time for his outside shot to develop then taking a short (and needed) path to being more effective at drawing fouls, etc makes a lot of sense.

Honestly, I think our biggest problem right now is that we have no frontcourt defense and poor rebounding.

Stewart is young and undersized. The ideal situation for him would be to develop into an extremely poor-man's Ben Wallace but that is very, very wishful thinking. He doesn't play above the rim/have elite leaping ability and that's a problem for someone being undersized. I think his ceiling is likely as a reserve big unless he is able to become deadly efficient from outside.

For all of the buildup, Olynyk is a journeyman undersized center with some offensive skills and some outside shooting ability. But I don't know anyone who would think of him as a potential starter at the Center position. And if Stewart isn't that guy then it's a problem that Olynyk isn't either.

Luka Garza is a nice story. He will play hard. He looks good against summer league talent. Nobody will ever mistake him for being an asset for us on defense. He will fight for every rebound he gets. It just won't be many against the better players.

Trey Lyles... ugh. Nothing more needs to be said there...

One of two things will happen this season:
1. We will continue to get wrecked in the post / rebounding on our way to more ping pong balls
2. We will acquire a flawed big whose most valuable skills are rebounding and defense who will inevitably make his way to major minutes if we play anything close to meaningful games this year.

With Corey Joseph being our best playmaking as i don't think Cade is going to be an off the dribble guy this year. I see another top 5 pick this year.
