The inside the NBA guys are very casual fans of the NBA. They are there for entertainment, not analysis. This team loses because it has very little talent.

we lack talent when we have everyone available. we've been missing our two most talented vets for a while now and i think it's wearing on a lot of people (players and fans). i doubt there's a coach in the league that would have us with ten wins at this point.

I don't disagree with any of that, but the coach does NOT have the ability to impact who's on the roster. We got who we got.whitehops wrote:MrBigShot wrote:The inside the NBA guys are very casual fans of the NBA. They are there for entertainment, not analysis. What he CAN impact is effort. That is what we are talking about. The obvious dissonance, because even at 100% we might not be more than 12 win team but we can still go out and play hard. Right now that isn't happening.

i think the TNT crew may have made an assumption based on the very little they watched of the pistons. absolutely NO team that loses by 30 is going to look they're playing hard. but season-long i really don't think there's much evidence that the pistons have given up or aren't playing hard.

Exactly!
Wins and losses are irrelevant, always was going to be this season as I stated all off-season!
Lack of effort, hustle and energy though?
The coaching staff needs to correct that whenever it rears up!
Every time you correct it you send a message to the playing group!
Any time they accept it that sends the wrong message

Agree most games I've struggled through we usually show good effort BUT sometimes it goes missing for minutes at a time, not whole quarters.whitehops wrote:Cowology wrote:What he CAN impact is effort. 3 minutes or 5 or 7 or whatever? All of it is unacceptable!
It's the NBA - random dudes can get hot at any time so you gotta be in the game at all times.
The mental aspect, the effort side of things - as a organisation we need to be instilling those things now!
Even assuming we draft Jabari, sign Ayton and trade Grant for a gun guard in the next 6 months IF we're not making the effort, bringing energy every minute and not prepared mentally the line up will be irreverent!
Ayton/Stewart/Garza
Jabari/KO/Lyles
Bey/ Diallo/Livers
Gun/Hayes/FJ
Cade/Lee/CoJo
Way more talent and options, stronger bench but...if they lack "fighting spirit" we gotta get dudes that have it in spades to counter act the "passive" nature on the roster

Re: TNT Inside the NBA on the Pistons
No one argued that Hayes HAS to start in order to get better. The only argument made was that he WON'T get better if he continues to start using the logic that after 53 games and still starting = not getting better, thus continuing to start = won't get better, therefore not starting = will get better (or have more of a chance to). No one can predict Hayes' future with certainty. The only thing that can be definitively said is that Hayes either will or won't get better, and someone is going to be saying "See? I told you so; I knew it all along." ANY argument that includes "this is what WILL happen" is stupid AF.

4 out of 6, since new year's. Seems like they have a fighting spirit, to me. Nothing the TNT crew will acknowledge. Jabari & Ayton + whatever assets they get for Grant, would be a best case scenario and an obvious playoff contender.
