Hit the nail on that head basically my same thoughts. Been saying that all season really.Cowology wrote:What we do with our backup PG position next season is still relevant. Hence the question. I mean, we're sitting here in a thread dedicated to how bad he is knowing that declining his option doesn't happen until after next season.
I doubt we look to "upgrade" the backup PG position strictly speaking, but we will 100% be looking to upgrade CoJo as a starter and that has a ripple effect. Not just in terms of pushing CoJo to the bench, but also eating a larger portion of the pie since your new starter will in all liklihood play more than the 25 mpg that CoJo was in that same role. You'll then have CoJo/Frank/Hayes under contract along w/ Diallo (maybe even Livers) fighting for those reduced minutes in the backcourt. (some of this depends on what type of guard we pickup and whether he can play PG)
There is going to be a minutes squeeze between all those guys and I don't think Hayes should be gifted anything at that point. You play the guys who earn it. If he wants the minutes then he has to show significant improvement. If not he will be pushed to the end of the bench or used as trade filler. Because yeah, those guys are all viable options over Hayes at that point.
