Hence the question. I mean, we're sitting here in a thread dedicated to how bad he is knowing that declining his option doesn't happen until after next season.
What we do with our backup PG position next season is still relevant. He's not locked into that role just because he has 1 more year on his contract.

I doubt we look to "upgrade" the backup PG position strictly speaking, but we will 100% be looking to upgrade CoJo as a starter and that has a ripple effect. Not just in terms of pushing CoJo to the bench, but also eating a larger portion of the pie since your new starter will in all liklihood play more than the 25 mpg that CoJo was in that same role. You'll then have CoJo/Frank/Hayes under contract along w/ Diallo (maybe even Livers) fighting for those reduced minutes in the backcourt. (some of this depends on what type of guard we pickup and whether he can play PG)

There is going to be a minutes squeeze between all those guys and I don't think Hayes should be gifted anything at that point. You play the guys who earn it. If he wants the minutes then he has to show significant improvement. If not he will be pushed to the end of the bench or used as trade filler. Because yeah, those guys are all viable options over Hayes at that point.
Hit the nail on that head basically my same thoughts. Been saying that all season really.

Of course it's a relevant topic. I'm simply suggesting people move past the "I don't want to see him play anymore, and I'm not saying he should be waived, and I'm not saying he should be DNP-CD'ed, and I'm not saying the team can somehow force another team to trade for him when he can't be traded (referring to the rest of this season). But it's stupid that he continues to play." I mean, you CAN do that, and people like me will continue to ask "And what then?"

Shoot, look at some of other hot takes on this board--Casey sucks, he's harming Cade's development and should be fired. How's that working out? Cade is a bust. How's that working out? Grant can't effectively play with Cade and Bey, which I myself had hoped for since it didn't seem other teams were jumping up for Grant but certainly supported moving on from Grant when it started to go a little south. Seems like that picture is a little different now too.

Like Sekou Hayes will be out of the nba in a couple seasons. He doesn't have the love for the game in my opinion thus the reason he doesn't work on his game during the off-season. Probably top 5 worst pick\ in Piston history.

Liqourish wrote:It goes back to what I have said repeatedly. He's not a bust, but he's a bad fit for this team. This team needs to build around Cade. Cade needs a shooter next to him, not another ball dominant PG. Killian could become a serviceable starting PG in this league, just not for this Pistons team. Move him now, maybe in a package with Grant for a nice young big man and a draft pick and continue building.

I think he's a bust with this team; however, I think he would thrive in Golden State because of style of play and superior coaching.

The perfect role for Hayes is coming off the bench with Bagley, those two are forming a good P&R connection and Hayes makes Bagley look good.
I really hope our bench looks like:

Hayes
Diallo
Liver
Stewart
Bagley

With us winning the lottery, taking Smith #1, signing Robinson in free agency, and flipping Grant, Olnyk and picks for a starting Gaurd next to Cade. I can dream of dejonte Murray, but I know they aren't letting go of him.

This is sooo off base, I don't know where to begin. Your complaining about one of the youngest players on our team who is a pass first point Gaurd about not being assertive enough? I swear I think a lot of you wouldn't know player development if it bit you in the butt. He's not Haliburton, we get it but that doesn't mean he can't be important to us in the future? Kid isn't even 21 yet? I see the growth and the flashes in his game, with him going to the bench the game is going to slow down even more for him, he's going to turn it around, especially now that he has some weapons coming off the bench with him.

While I like most of those guys individually there is a serious shooting deficiency with that lineup. You need a few more guys capable of spacing the floor.

Exactly. For that line up to be functional, Hayes and Diallo both need to start hitting corner threes reliably and one of Stew or Bagley needs to be replaced by a shooter.
