Reggie Jackson Resigns 5/80

I hated on Harden getting a max...I didn't know what I was talking about. The same thing will happen. Not saying RJ will be as good as him, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him become a star.

Honestly if anything. Of dragic knight and rj , who were all traded to knew teams for a "try out". rj performed the best. He surprised even his supporters. Anyone criticizing this deal is because they've read instead of watched

Random Reggie stat that surprised me, his senior year at Boston College he took 5 triples a game and shot 42% on them.

A couple questions -

1) What was his max?
2) Does anyone have a link to the stats he had the last 20 games or so when he went on a tear? His pts/ast/reb/ts%/to were impressive as I recall
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Would've preferred a cheaper contract but with the rising cap this isn't going to haunt us.

The GB reaction is expected given that RJ has become one of the league's highest paying PG and he arguably isnt even a top 15 PG.

DJ Augustin as starting PG in 14 games: 18 points/8 assists/3 boards/3TOs on 45% FG, 40% from 3, 94% FT in 35mpg
Jennings post Josh Smith- in 16 games: 20 points/7 assists/2 boards/2 TOs on 44% FG, 40% from 3, 82% FT in 28mpg

SVG gets a lot out of his PGs

Thanks. So, this means we can still offer Drummond a 5 year max? because this 5 year contract is not a DP max? Or does that not matter and now Drummond can only get 4 years?
Sorry if someone else already said it.

Drummond can get his 5/110 or whatever the hell it is any time we want to offer it. It's signicantly less than Davis and Lillard, too (I think), because he hasn't been an All-Star or All-NBA.

I imagine he'll get even more out of Jackson with with a whole summer and with the spacers we have added :). This is going to be great!

With the direction contracts are heading, this has the potential to look very good in 2 years if Reggie lives up to it. Now get Drummond done.

A lot of people are questioning this signing on basically every basketball outlet there is.

The funny thing is, Jackson will only make $1 million more per season than DeMarre Carroll will earn in Toronto.

I don't consider it an overpay, when Brandon Knight received $14 million per season.

It was a no brainer. We can spend 4999 posts around a million more or a million less, but the story remains the same. We needed to do this, we must committ to a core and see what happen. We could not keep postponing that.

Good deal. RJ will be worth every penny if he plays well but most importantly if he can help bring Dre up to the level we need him to be at for the team to be successful. From all signs so far, I've liked what I've seen.

People are dumb and lazy. They view Reggie as a borderline starter and view the Pistons as not going anywhere, obviously Stan feels differently.

Cory Joseph signed for 4 years / $30 mil. I like him, but what has he shown to get that money?

Think about it this way - Reggie is signing a 5 year deal, taking him well into the new cap era. $16 mil per year of a $108 mil salary cap (projections for '17-'18) is 15%, which is the equivalent of a $10.2 mil deal under the current cap. We had him under his cap hold to use our space this summer, we have plenty of space next summer with Jennings/Ilyasova expiring and his deal is only 15% of the projected cap in 2 summers. He's got the potential to make this look like a real bargain, if he doesn't, we still have flexibility.

The skepticism is because RJ is getting paid top dollar for a 20 game stretch- I think most think it was a fluke and that RJ will revert back into mediocrity next season. RJ is an average PG at best IMO but I think SVG's system gets the most out of PGs as evidenced by Jennings and Augustin putting up stats just as good if not better than RJ as starting PG.

I think RJ will only have a slight statistical dropoff next season. This is only an albatross contract if RJ 20games with the Pistons were a fluke.
