Idle thought - can the Pistons resign Dre right now for that 20-25M per that's rumored, like Bledsoe?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Hawks have a young big in Fernando which I doubt moves the needle. It could expand to a 3 way where Parker could net a young prospect/later 1st from a team that own multiple picks. I can't imagine Cam or Hunter would be discussed at this stage of their careers. What's holding Drummond's value down is the significant contract he will command and the limited teams that can actually accommodate it.

No Reddish. No deal.

Turner, BKN pick, and Reddish for Drummond is a very fair deal. I'm not interested in anything less than that and the Pistons shouldn't be either.

BKLN pick is a gamble as if it conveys it will be in the 15-18 range, but if they miss the playoffs this season - next season with Durant back and Kyrie healthy they're likely in the mid to late 20's range.

I am not even interested in that deal. It's obnoxious. That pick is not good at all and Reddish is a joke.

If KD and Kryrie are healthy.

That’s a substantial if given one is out for the year and one is contemplating major surgery.

I understand yalls angst. When it was time to move Dwight, fans were willing to accept an early 2nd only for it be a mid one. Whiteside is having as good or better season than Drummond and nobody is beating down Portland's door about him...

Sad to see, but the analytics kinda prove you can't win with these archetype bigs these days. Hopefully the Pistons can get a deal done somewhere and move onward.

Whiteside is also a proven distraction and locker room problem who only cares about himself. I mean i wouldn't trade a 1st for him either given your teams position currently and Drummonds contract status but i would just keep and look into sign and trades or even what other teams try to offer before letting him go for a 2nd rounder.

Hell we can just buy one of those like candy come draft night if we wanted that.

But really it doesn't matter what anyone on here says and ultimately what the FOs do.

The article says at the end of the second paragraph that a potential deal would include other assets. Only deals I'm interested in are for either Reddish and the BKN pick or Hunter. I'm sick of self loathing Piston fans constantly devaluing their players. Drummond is a very good player who is just entering his prime. We shouldn't be giving him up for cap relief (which Drummond ALSO provides us anyway) and garbage.

Dre's worth to other teams in the league isn't decided by the so-called "self loathing Piston fans" (you're not using the term in proper context), or self-proclaimed geniuses who blow sunshine up their own asses. It's decided by the teams willing to make a deal for Dre. Dre is no different than any other thing for sale--his worth in the market isn't determined by the price the Pistons put on him. It's determined by what he actually sells for, i.e. what another team is willing to pay.

My worry is that no deal will be made because our FO May have a wildly unrealistic view of Dre’s value.

Snake,
I think it was you but I can't find the post explaining Drummonds trade kicker....and how it correlates to us dealing him close to the deadline instead of now

It was something weird, like he gets $x thousand per day left in his contract. Every day we wait, the trade kicker gets smaller. It wasn't a big number for the NBA though, so I hope management isn't worried about that. If a good deal comes across, take it now.

The team receiving the player has to pay the extra salary, we’re currently paying Blake’s trade kicker.

The concern is on the other teams’ end, not ours.

Basically Drummond gets a % raise if he gets traded. Naturally, the longer his with that team, the higher a portion of his contract the kicker applies to.

Yes, this is technically true, but we can include cash in the trade to pay for it.

Also, I'm sure we can agree upon a deal and just sit Drummond until then. I doubt we will have a deal in place and then just wait and let Drummond keep playing.

Sure. But there might also be luxury tax implications depending on who we trade with.

On the Hawks board they seem to think Snell and Drummond for expirings. Maybe a 2nd. Would save us a million this year if we did it for Turner and crabbe. Not even sure why it would matter to us to get out of Snell's last year. I'd rather just keep Snell and so Drummond for Brooklyn pick.
Knicks board wants nothing to do with Drummond lol

I think the reason Drummond has not moved is teams are not willing to give what the Pistons ideally want - meaningful draft capital or young players with potential. If we would of done this last year, it probably would of been done by now.

Anything can happen before the trade deadline and there are always a couple bad GMs out there who feel they need to make a move. With Drummond, I dont' think he gets moved until the end. Anyone who really wants him could of had him by now and they are waiting out the Pistons to lower their ask likely. Andre has always put up nice stats but how much does it impact winning is what teams need to determine.

Rose is playing at an all-star caliber right now. I read Rose has to approve a deal, but he teams in need of a strong backup PG in the playoffs have to be inquiring.

Morris and Langston are the other two who could move if their play picks up....( more so Morris)

In classic fashion we waited one year too long to rebuild. Last year Blake's value was sky high and Andre was looking far more valuable given the extra year on his contract, so teams know he isn't just a few month rental.

This push to get swept in the playoffs last year likely cost us 2 or 3 years in rebuild time. Hope Gores got his money's worth.

Not to mention last years draft class was head and shoulders above this years.

I think it's pretty clear that Andre doesn't have much value that would have teams clamor to get our phones ringing constantly. That much is true, like you said, a deal would've likely happened by now if a 1st would be coughed up by these teams. But since him being an expiring basically and having 8 years of footage of Dre playing, it's making teams wary before really pulling the trigger to a deal. Which sucks for us with the looming prospect of just letting the deadline pass with losing him for nothing.

The only real leverage we have is waiting until the deadline to make some desperate team squirm a bit at the thought of no deal.

It wouldn't be a Pistons "rebuild" without costly blunders after all.

A PO is also a Schroedinger's Contract if you will. Teams either want or don't want that extra year - and depending on which category you find yourself in the PO hurts your desire to trade for him.
