What honestly is the sixers plan, "keep sucking until they happen upon the next great NBA player in the draft.....even though they don't seem to actually have a plan, plan".
We signed Rip to a extension right after we signed BG who plays same position
We thought Allen iverson could play team ball
We thought CV cared about basketball
We consistently thought Stuckey was more than he is
We thought Josh Smith was a SF that secretly could shoot 3's
We were worse, we were stuck in mediocrity with bad contracts , no coach and no direction. If our record tells any stories. I am actually suprised we never went this direction.
Sixers plan is actually ingenious. We aren't going to sign lebron ever, so why not draft the next one. The problem was they thought they knew how to discern between Elite superstar and average player. They also underestimated the backlash by the league and players. So not only couldn't they figure out who would become "Lebron" in draft selections, but now FA's most certainly are staying away. You add the immaturity in the lockeroom due to lack of veterans and sense of "i may get traded" , its a forumla for a f* up franchise. Ironically this actually fuels the plan in the direction its going ie tanking , however when you have mulitiple years of poor seasons, immature players, draft picks that don't fullfil their potential, fans aren't going to back you. There whole "trust the process" mantra is essentially them throwing there hands up and saying f* it.
