Exactly guys.

Which is why I said count me in on Kuminga.

His talent level, drive, and skill is evident at a young age, which means he'll only get better as he matures if he's put in the right position to succeed.

Not complicated.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Of course, that doesn't mean later bloomers don't have upside. Michael Jordan was a 21 yr old rookie - as was steph curry. Tim Duncan got red shirted and came in at 22.

And pistons fans should never forget we drafted that 17-yr-old Darko for his upside over a more game ready Wade at 21.

I'd be curious to see the counter data to that. Where since the one and done era, these guys that had some time to marinate in college end up becoming multi-year full time starters or all-stars in this league. I imagine it's an exclusive list, especially the all-star one

I think the common working theory is, the younger you are, the more potential to at least be a starter level in this league since you're still moldable to fix/enhance parts of your game to better fit the trends of the NBA. That and pro levels provide just way more flexibility for private trainers and pro-level teaching due to basically unlimited resources

After seeing a lot of mocks and chatter, the consensus in my mind -

Cade
Mobley

Green
Suggs

Kuminga

Everybody else
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Read on Twitter

Besides having the best name in this draft, I think this kid could be a sleeper in this draft. The type of kid who’ll go somewhere in the 20’s that people will look back at and wonder how he went that late.

I like his work!

Was bored so I ran a Lottery Simulator ten times and here were the results...

6
3
5
2
5
4
6

5
5

Not shocked at all the 5's because their highest odds are to land at 5 but lol at the three 6's and zero 1's. Seems like realistic Pistons luck to me.

I am basically expecting we draft at 5 and beyond. So that I won't be surprised come draft night. There's always a team that'll move up unexpectedly in a cosmic way. Same with the Zion draft.

Maybe another target to consider if Troy packages the 2nd’s to move back into Rd 1:

If you do it 100 times you’d expect an average of 42 5/6 picks.

That run of picks 4 and below is statistically unlikely.

Pretty sure that’s 47 or 48 expected, not 42.

I hate that Tankathon website. It gives me heartburn when it keeps sticking on 5 and 6.

In any event, after yet another round of highlight binges;

Cade
Green
Mobley

Suggs

Kuminga

Top three pick, and I'm okay with that. I'm also warming up to Kuminga as in that scenario, Bey or Kuminga play the 2. It would be a big ass lineup but, the switching possibilities are massive.

Hayes 6'5
Kuminga 6'6
Bey 6'7
Grant 6'8
Stewart 6'9

Why the hell not.

How I'm guessing Weaver ranks them.

Cade - #1, duh
Green - Likes him, fits positionally, safer pick than some
Suggs - Likes him a lot, but do Hayes and him step on one another?
Mobley - Very gifted but not totally the personality Weaver wants. A perimeter player would be a better fit
Kuminga - Gifted, but, again, not totally the personality he wants. Is a fit positionally. Riskier than some others

2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I don’t think there’s much chance we end up with Suggs. If we pick 4th and he’s the one left, there could be some maneuvering. I like the guy, but he’s not a great fit. I doubt Weaver is willing to move on from Hayes this quickly, and neither of those guys has much value off ball right now.

If he's BPA, then you have to take him. Regardless of Hayes' standing with the team. We're in no position to turn down pure talent just because Hayes might have to play off ball more

I'm just not convinced of drafting for fit anymore, after this franchise passed up Booker and now Mitchell.
