I think he's on a fundamental level not good enough to be the second-best player on a contender. The second-best player player on a contender pretty much invariably needs to be an all-star-caliber scorer capable of creating postseason offense. At the very least, he certainly can't be a guy like Lauri who can do very little for himself. Not that the defense is there either, because it isn't.

Yeah, I think you can make a case against this trade WITHOUT mentioning his defense.

But a Duren/Lauri front court would be exploitable enough to make one shudder.

I’m not all that concerned. It doesn’t feel like a move TL would entertain- and I think even those in favor of it would acknowledge that.

Duren is unlikely to be a consideration next season if the defense doesn't improve a great deal, but aye, not ideal even for one season.

And yep, I agree that such a move would not be considered at this point. We heard nothing about the FO making inquiries into a significant trade during the offseason, which was as it should be and fully in line with the FO's priorities.

It is just laughable to think Lauri is coming here. The Pistons are committed to youth while the Jazz has the worst GM for trades in the business.

Lauri is 28, under a massive deal, and does not fit into the Jazz’s long term plans.

He’d be in a Pistons uniform if TL was willing to play ball at all (IE willing to give up picks/youth).

I believe that.

It’s not happening.

This is how I feel about it now.
Maybe its the optimist in me. The start of the year optimism.
Markkanen makes way too much money.
Tobias is just too much a fan fav right now.
Our depth is amazing.
We run 9 deep with 2 Dawgs just waiting to get off the bench-Sasser+Reed
We still likely could sign Beasley once/if he gets completely cleared.
For now though our top9 guys look strong and long asf

Odds are high Harris will be re-signed here and Pistons wouldn't trade him away and only have MLE to offer in the off-season. He is only 33yrs old and has an old man's game so should age better.

He for sure seems like the type of guy who will play til he's 37 or 38. He's always seemingly taken the most money he can get on every contract so if he can get another 2 years $40 million or 3 years $55 million type deal you know he'll take that for sure.

JB's response is exactly what he should be saying -- right up to the point when they finally find a future 4. And then it changes to "we're happy to have finally addressed a big need"

yeah to get lauri we'd need to give up tobias and one of stew, robinson or levert (have to wait until mid-december to trade the last two), or tobias and one of ivey, ausar or holland plus filler. that's just to match salary, i'm sure we'd have to give up picks as well.

we have so many lineup options and nobody is disputing lauri is a really good player, but going forward with the guys we have this season (plus leaving a spot open for beasley) is something i'm totally okay with. we're committing to perimeter defense and we always have the option to run stew out as the backup 4 against certain matchups (like giannis and turner, for example).

Nikola Jovic just signed a $62/4 deal w the Heat. A possible reasonably priced PF who can shoot?

Oubre operates heavily on the ball and is a bad perimeter shooter. I'd deem him a particularly poor option for this roster.

^^^^yes. Agreed. Id like another shooter.
Hopefully its Beasley, even though in the short term we don't have any minutes for him unless someone is injured or we rotate days off for guys?
Im all about adding talent
When does our TPE expire? Next summer?
Hopefully we add TPE guy and Beasley seperate. Not sure how that works. Might have to do a 2for1 trade at some point

TPEs expire after one calendar year.

If the Pistons wish to clear a roster spot, they'd just waive Green. He's on a minimum contract and his salary doesn't become fully guaranteed until the league-wide guarantee date in January.
