Ron Artest will not make peace with Ben Wallace
While Ron Artest has certainly mellowed some in recent years, he's still good for consistently awesome quotes. It's impossible for him to do an interview without being asked about the Palace brawl, and while he and instigator John Green have made amends, Artest tells the Sporting News there's still one person he has yet to forgive: On his feelings toward Ben Wallace, the Pistons center whose altercation with Artest touched off the melee in Detroit: "I see Ben, I'm on my guard now. I'm always in the mood to fight him. … I'll get suspended 10 games, 15 games (because) I'll just fight him right there. It won't go into the stands."

Well, that's a relief that it won't spill into the stands, I guess. It shows maturity.Artest also says there is only one force who could've stopped him from going into the stands that night: "It wasn't my fault. … I don't see anything I could have done different. The only thing I could have done was have God pause time so I could have said, 'Oh, look, you're about to run in some stands, so stop.'"

Honestly, I could excerpt the whole thing. You should probably just click over and read it all. A sampling: Artest also admits to drinking Hennessy at halftime when he was a member of the Bulls and accuses referee Joey Crawford of admitting to favoring the Lakers over the Rockets in last year's playoffs. David Stern is going to be thrilled.

Pistons forward Villanueva may sit tonight
Charlie Villanueva sported a nasty looking gash on the bridge of his nose this morning.

The 6-foot-11 Pistons forward, in obvious discomfort, said after this morning’s shootaround at the United Center that he didn’t know whether he can play tonight when the Pistons take on the Bulls. Villanueva said he is still achy from the broken nose he suffered Sunday against the Hawks. It will be a game-time decision.

Guard Ben Gordon looked better as he went through defensive drills on his sprained left ankle, but he also will be a game-time decision. He has missed the last two games.

Detroit Pistons (6-11) at Chicago Bulls (6-9), 8 p.m.
A pair of struggling Central Division teams hook up in the Windy City Wednesday as the Chicago Bulls play host to the Detroit Pistons. The game figures to serve as Ben Gordon's homecoming but a sprained ankle suffered by Detroit's high scoring guard may derail that. Gordon, the third overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by Chicago, led the Bulls in scoring over the past four seasons before signing a five-year, $50-plus million dollar deal with the Pistons this offseason. The sharp-shooter, who is averaging a team-high 19.8 points, has missed Detroit's last two games but practiced Monday and is listed as questionable. "It's feeling pretty good," Gordon told the Pistons' Web site. "If it continues to progress the way it has been, hopefully I'll be able to play on Wednesday." On the floor, Chicago is coming off a disastrous 1-5 road trip. Milwaukee's Andrew Bogut made sure the Bulls stayed winless on their trek by sparkling in his return from a leg injury with 22 points and 15 rebounds, as the Bucks edged the Bulls, 99-97, on Monday. John Salmons had 23 points to lead the Bulls, who play three of their next four games in the Second City, where they are 4-1 on the year. Luol Deng finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Joakim Noah ended with 16 points and 17 boards.

Derrick Rose had 19 points in defeat. Salmons hit a three-pointer with 14.7 seconds left to get the Bulls within one, but rookie star Brandon Jennings countered with a pair of free throws for a 98-95 edge with 13.2 ticks left. The Bucks then let Salmons go in uncontested for a jam with 8.6 seconds to go before Charlie Bell sank 1-of-2 attempts from the charity stripe. Rose then passed up a possible tying shot with a pass to Brad Miller, but Miller's jumper from right of the foul line came up short at the buzzer. "I just going high-screen roll and try to let Derrick create because he was doing a good job off the dribble," said Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro about the final play. "If the three presented itself with Brad, shoot it. If not, Derrick (would) attack the rim. I thought Brad had a decent shot.

The Pistons, meanwhile, snapped an ugly, seven-game skid on Sunday when Rodney Stuckey scored 23 points and dished out eight assists, as Detroit earned a 94-88 win over the Atlanta Hawks at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Will Bynum donated 19 points off the bench, while Charlie Villanueva went for 13 points and six rebounds for Detroit. Villanueva left early in the fourth quarter with a broken nose, however, and is listed as questionable for tonight. "Good win," Pistons head coach John Kuester said. "You're playing one of the premier teams in the East. Atlanta is outstanding, well-coached, outstanding athletes. Our guys came in and were focused, understood that we'd been in a tough (injury) situation but we didn't lose focus in what we wanted to accomplish during the period." Ben Wallace turned in a solid performance with a game-best 18 rebounds and 10 points. Jonas Jerebko finished with 10 points and 11 boards. The Bulls have dominated Detroit in Chicago recently, winning six straight in the series at the United Center.

Love Practicing; No Return Date Given
Kevin Love has participated in some portions of contact practice the last two days and will be re-evaluated by doctors tomorrow or Thursday.

Kurt Rambis said conditioning will be Love’s biggest issue and didn’t indicate that a return to game action is imminent (like, this week).

“He’s doing a great job running, but the wrestling aspect of basketball is very fatiguing and that’s what he’s trying to push himself through now,” Rambis said. “There’s still a mental barrier he’s going to have to push himself through. I don’t know if he’s at that stage yet.”

Scola Lobbying to Return ASAP
A day after the Rockets announced forward Luis Scola would miss tonight's game against the Clippers because of the gash and swelling above his right eye, Scola said he was not worried about being back in time to play the Warriors on Thursday because he was trying to change the Rockets' position about tonight. “I'm more interested about tomorrow,” Scola said Tuesday. “We'll see how it goes. It's just a cut. The position of the cut is a little bit tricky. It's right next to the eye.”

Scola was required to sit out Tuesday's practice, but he shot to get used to the goggles he will wear for at least a week. That was enough for him to begin lobbying trainer Keith Jones to allow him to play.

Asked to handicap their fight, (Shane) Battier said, “Never bet against a mad Argentinean. There's no questioning his desire to play and be out here. He looks at his eye as a minor flesh wound. Most other people will be out a few weeks for that.”

Matt Harpring: 'I'm Not Retiring'
Matt Harpring said he's not going to retire. But that doesn't mean he hasn't played his last game for the Utah Jazz. The forward, who might not play this season due to knee and ankle injuries, told FanHouse on Tuesday he expects the Jazz to release a statement later this week or early next week on his status. Harpring said he's been told by Jazz officials and his agent, Richard Howell, not to divulge what the statement will say.

Harpring, though, confirmed he still wants to play. "I'm not retiring,'' said Harpring, 33, who has played 11 NBA seasons, the past seven for Utah. He was asked if he wants to play this season. "I would love to play,'' Harpring said.

Harpring, though, declined to answer when asked if he will be physically able to play this season. Indications are Harpring's injuries might keep him from playing in the final season of his contract, one paying him $6.5 million. With retirement not apparently a desire for Harpring, he could end up being used in a trade with a team looking for an expiring contract.

Wallace's Technical Issues Continue
Rasheed Wallace has eight technical fouls in 18 games, which would equate to 36 over a full season. That number is astronomical, of course, especially since the NBA suspends players one game for each technical after the 16th. Wallace has a career high of 41 in 2000-01 with Portland, and he collected 19 last season with Detroit. Celtics coach Doc Rivers said his mercurial forward is going to have to reduce his propensity for technicals.

Wallace picked up his third in three games in the second quarter of last night’s 108-90 win over the Bobcats. After being replaced by Kendrick Perkins, Wallace walked by official Derek Richardson, whispered some words, and received a technical before reaching the bench.

He appeared to still be upset about being called for a foul on Flip Murray about a minute earlier. “I’m concerned, but there’s nothing I am going to do about it, I’ll tell you that,’’ said Rivers. “I could talk to him until I’m blue. “Clearly, it’s going to come to that number and he’s going to get suspended and we don’t want to lose him for games. His teammates are on him. We talked to him about it. But at the end of the day, he is going to have to solve that on his own.’’

Sore Knee Continues to Plague Redd
Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Redd is not traveling with the team on a two-game trip because his left knee continues to bother him.

Redd strained a ligament in his surgically repaired knee in Milwaukee's win over Detroit on Oct. 31. Redd missed nine games, returned for three and has missed the previous two after soreness returned following a loss at Oklahoma City on Nov. 27.

Griffin Scheduled for MRI in 10 Days
December could be a rare month to remember for the Clippers. Having closed to within two games of .500 without rookie Blake Griffin, the Clippers hope to nudge their record into winning territory before they welcome back the No. 1 overall draft pick from what so far has been a season-long knee injury. "Whew, man," small forward Al Thornton said when asked where the Clippers would be if they could sustain their recent success until Griffin's expected return late this month. "We'd be scary if we keep playing the way we are and get the No. 1 pick back and get him into the flow of things. It could be on the up and up."

Dunleavy said he received "a good report" from a doctor regarding Griffin, who has been sidelined by a stress fracture in his left kneecap. Griffin has not been cleared to run but he took a handful of flat-footed shots after practice Tuesday.

He is scheduled to have a MRI exam on his knee in about 10 days, Dunleavy said."When he gets back," Gordon said, "we want to have at least a winning record by then."

Randolph Sidelined 7-14 Days With Ankle
Warriors assistant coach Keith Smart said Anthony Randolph had found his stride during Monday night's game against the Indiana Pacers. Now Randolph will have to wait at least a week before he's able to regain that same form.

The Warriors announced before Tuesday's game against the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center that Randolph has a left ankle sprain and will be out of the lineup for 7-14 days. Randolph rolled his left ankle midway through the third quarter of Monday's home game and did not make the trip to Denver with the Warriors early Tuesday.

Chris Paul Could Return in a Week
As I continue to try (and fail) to digest what happened to the Suns in New York tonight by engrossing myself in Hornets and Lakers . . . now I find myself longing for Chris Paul.

The latest on the Hornets’ injured dynamo? Paul himself told our man J.A. Adande that he won’t entertain the thought of returning from a sprained left ankle until he’s “100 percent.”

The loose expectation in New Orleans, as I hear it, is that Paul could be back in a week. Maybe even sooner in the best-case scenario.

Allen Iverson Rejoins 76ers
Sixers president Ed Stefanski announced the signing Wednesday on the team's Web site. Iverson is expected to make his debut Monday at home against the Denver Nuggets. "In light of the recent injury to Lou Williams, which will sideline him for close to eight weeks, we felt that Allen was the best available free agent guard to help us at this time," Stefanski said in a release.

Iverson, his agent and business manager met with Stefanski, coach Eddie Jordan and two other members of the organization Monday.

The 34-year-old Iverson announced his retirement last week after an ill-fated stint with the Memphis Grizzlies. The 10-time All-Star was NBA MVP in 2001 when he led the Sixers to the NBA finals.

Ben Gordon, but not Charlie Villanueva, likely to play vs. Bulls
One out of two isn't bad, and that's what the Pistons are probably looking at heading into Wednesday's game against the Chicago Bulls (8 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit). Ben Gordon (sprained left ankle) reported continuing progress after Wednesday morning's shoot-around and appears ready to play. But Charlie Villanueva (broken nose) probably will need another day or two to recover from surgery. "It's better; today I was able to do a lot more than I did (Tuesday)," said Gordon, who would be making his first appearance in Chicago since leaving as a free agent last summer. "The only thing I haven't tried is all-out sprints and hard cuts, but I feel pretty good right now. "I'm hoping by tonight I'll feel good enough to play. It still hurts, it's not gone yet, but I want to get enough mobility so I can get to play."

As for Villanueva, he was feeling the effects of Monday's surgery. "I don't feel so good right now," said Villanueva, sporting a cut to the side of the nose. "Just a massive headache, a little tightness in my sinus area. I'll see how it feels (tonight), but I'm hurting a little this morning. "I guess it's part of the healing process." Playing with a mask to protect the nose, said Villanueva, won't be a problem: "It might feel weird at first but I'll get used to it."

As for coming off the bench, which Villanueva did Sunday before colliding with Ben Wallace in the fourth quarter and breaking the nose, Villanueva has no problem with it. "The coaches wanted to make changes and we'd lost seven in a row," said Villanueva, who went to the bench along with Austin Daye, while Chucky Atkins and Jason Maxiell started. "It wasn't like my minutes would be affected. I'm perfectly fine with it." Coach John Kuester said Wednesday morning he had not decided who would start against the Bulls.

Pistons at Bulls preview
The opponent — The Chicago Bulls will be playing their first home game after two weeks on the road, while the circus was in town. The six-game road trip did not go well for the Bulls, who started it off with a win a Sacramento, but then lost the next five. Chicago’s offense failed to score more than 98 points during its five-game losing streak, while giving up an average of 109.2 points. Last season’s Rookie of the Year Derrick Rose is having a solid year, but his scoring (15.6) and assists (3.0) are down slightly from his 16.8 points and 3.9 assists as a rookie. The Bulls would really be in trouble if it wasn’t for the resurgence of Luol Deng, who is leading the team in scoring at 18.3 per game and looks healthy after missing 33 games last season due to injury.Chicago hoped John Salmons would pick up some of the scoring load left by the departure of Ben Gordon to Detroit, but Salmons has been inconsistent this season and his scoring average has dropped to 14.2 from 18.3 last season. Center Joakim Noah is building on his success late last season and is averaging a double-double (11.5 points and 12.6 rebounds) as well as 1.6 blocks per game. Rookie Taj Gibson has done a nice job filling in the for the injured Tyrus Thomas, who remains out with a forearm fracture. Kirk Hinrich is also out with a left thumb sprain.

Key matchup — Pistons Ben Wallace vs. Bulls Joakim Noah: A huge part of Detroit’s win over Atlanta on Sunday was the Pistons dominance on the boards. Wallace has shown flashes of his old self for most of the season and has showed he can still rebound with the best. Noah, meanwhile, has shown he is one of the best rebounders in the league and is third in the league in rebounding (12.1 per game). Noah has nine double-doubles in 15 games this season and would have two more, but failed to score in double figures in two games he had double-digit rebounds. Wallace will likely be ready to go against his former team, who traded him away during the 2007-08 season.

The skinny — Wednesday’s game starts a big week for the Pistons, who play two Central Division foes in the Bulls and Milwaukee (on Friday) and Washington on Sunday. All three teams could be competing for the final playoff spots in the East so these game will likely count double when it’s all said and done. The Pistons (6-11) will do themselves a big favor by winning at least two of three and try to get closer to .500. Detroit might have to do it without its four highest paid players. Ben Gordon (ankle) and Charlie Villanueva (nose) will be game-time decisions, while Richard Hamilton (ankle) and Tayshaun Prince (back) remain out. The starting five of Chucky Atkins, Rodney Stuckey, Wallace, Jason Maxiell and Jonas Jerekbo had some success Sunday, but coach John Kuester hasn’t set anything in stone. Will Bynum and Villanueva provided a huge boost off the bench in Sunday’s win, but Villanueva could be out. If Gordon remains out, the Pistons will need a similar game out of Stuckey, who had 23 points and eight assists on Sunday. Stuckey will also play a huge role defensively, whether he is guarding Rose, Salmons or Deng. If Gordon plays look for a big game out of him. It will be his first game back in Chicago after the Bulls elected not to offer him a contract in the offseason despite Gordon leading the team in scoring in each of the last four seasons.

Detroit Pistons @ Chicago Bulls: The Pistons are without Tayshaun Prince and Rip Hamilton for sure, and Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva are also questionable with minor injuries, and Detroit's record reflects the injuries that have contributed to their 6-11 record. The Bulls have lost five straight, but don't have Detroit's sexy injuries to blame it on. Kirk Hinrich is out for a couple of weeks with a thumb injury and Tyrus Thomas is still out, but the Bulls should still be better than 6-9.

Gordon game-time decision vs. Bulls
Ben Gordon wants to play against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night, but he still isn't sure if his body will allow him to do so.

Gordon, who has missed the past two games because of an ankle injury, is a game-time decision. "I don't know," he said after the Pistons shootaround, when asked about his status for Wednesday's game. "I was able to do a little more today in shootaround than I was able to [Tuesday], so I'm just going to come back tonight and see how it feels. I'll see if I can make some game-time cuts and things like that and then go from there."

The former Bull admitted that walking into the United Center as a visitor was a little strange for him. "It's different," he said. "I'm sure it will be exciting here tonight, but right now I'm just focused on trying to get healthy and see if I can play tonight." If Gordon does play it will be the first time he has ever played against his former team. He was drafted by the Bulls in 2004 and played five seasons with the team. He signed with Pistons over the summer as a free agent and is averaging 19.8 points.

Mike (Detroit)
Do you see Detroit making the playoffs if they can get Hamilton and Prince back by the end of the month? And, in some respects, would it almost be better for them to miss out and get a high lottery pick that could turn into a franchise-type guy (because Stuckey is quite obviously not what they stubbornly thought he would be)?

John Hollinger (2:42 PM)
I actually think Detroit's had a pretty good start all things considered. I never would have guessed they could withstand this many injuries to core players and still stay in the East playoff hunt. Granted, that's partly because the East is a joke this year, but still... As far as your franchise guy in the lottery, remember that it really only improves their position a couple spots. No. 8 seeding the East will pick 15th, a lottery season puts them, say, 10th-14th with little to no shot at the top three. Not worth tanking for that.

Status of Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva still unclear
The status of guard Ben Gordon and forward Charlie Villanueva for tonight's game between the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls in Chicago is still not clear.

The Pistons said both will be game-time decisions.

Gordon missed the team's previous two games after injuring his left ankle a week ago. Villanueva broke his nose Sunday in a win over Atlanta and had surgery Monday. He will wear a protective mask when he returns. Gordon played his first five seasons with the Bulls before signing with the Pistons in the offseason

How will fans greet Gordon?
Noah says former teammates' work ethic, performance deserves praise. During Ben Gordon's five-year tenure with the Chicago Bulls, he always was one of the most polarizing athletes in town. People either loved him, and his ability to make clutch shots, or they couldn't stand him because of his shot selection and periodic defense. So it's no surprise that Gordon himself isn't sure whether he will be cheered or booed tonight in his first game back at the United Center, this time as a member of the Pistons. "I don't know," he said after Wednesday morning's shootaround, when asked if he thought he would be cheered. "I would hope so, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some boos. But, we'll see what happens."

Derrick Rose is looking forward to the atmosphere that his former teammates arrival will bring, but he has the same mindset that Gordon appears to have when it comes to fans' possible reactions. "It's going to be crazy," Rose said after Tuesday's practice. "It's going to be kind of weird playing against him [Wednesday], but our fans are die-hard Bulls fans, so I don't think it's going to be a cheerful crowd [Wednesday] for Ben Gordon." Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro is hoping for the best when it comes to how his former player is received. "I think the fans will treat Ben well," Del Negro said Tuesday. "He's our rival now but he put in a lot of strong years here for the Bulls, and I know the fans appreciate that. But our focus is not Ben, it's the Pistons in general, as a team."Joakim Noah isn't really sure which way the reaction toward Gordon will go. "I have no idea how they're going to treat him," he said. "It's an exciting game, it's a must-win. It feels good to be back at home. We haven't won in a while so we just got to go in and give it everything we got."

But Noah did admit a few moments later that he hops Gordon gets to feel some love. "I think he deserves all the respect in the world," the Bulls center said. "He obviously did a lot for the Bulls. He competed every night. He was one of the best scorers that ever wore the jersey.I think we wouldn't have been in the situation we were in last year if it wasn't for that guy hitting big shot after big shot."Just an unbelievable talent. He's somebody who put in a lot of time. In the summertime, I've never seen a guy work out the way he worked out," Noah said. "He'd be in here like three to four times a day in the Berto Center shooting jump shots. Having a guy work out with him. I've never seen somebody with such a work ethic. So, I think when somebody works that hard he deserves all the credit in the world." No matter what happens, Gordon is looking forward to playing in the building he used to call home, and seeing some of his former teammates."It will be good to see them," Gordon said. "I'm looking forward to it. So are the fans. For one reason or another.
