I'm sure they will get an offer of a future 1st from somebody. I'm just saying that the article you posted doesn't give off the impression that Bojan is likely to be traded.

Also, I don't think we'll know what kind of market it is until we see some actual trade movement. There does appear to be a lot more buyers than sellers at the moment though which is surprising considering that most thought there would be a huge race to the bottom for Wemby. Not so much this season, surprisingly. Could work in the Pistons favor with less supply from bottom feeders and high demand from contenders.

It seems like every few days we hear a large list of teams being interested in Bojan, but that the Pistons are wanting to keep him unless an offer is too good.... seems like the Pistons are really trying to pump up that trade value before the trade deadline.

I'm not surprised we aren't making any moves before this Paris trip this week... it'll be our only game all week... wouldn't be surprised to see something happen the following week though once we're back to the US and in the wing of things again.

Monday Jan 23rd we play the Bucks
Monday Jan 30th we play the Mavs

Two games for opposing GMs to get up close looks and perhaps for Weaver to make some in person discussions.

Bojan has been linked to Laker interest too much for me to think he doesn't end up there. Also when LAL's most valuable trade piece is a 2027 FRP, that is FOUR drafts away. How many current selling teams have GM's secure enough to make a trade to acquire a mystery value asset four years away? Lakers are not getting in on any near stars that want out with a package of FRP-s 4-6 yrs down the road as their main assets.

Having them unprotected is the only thing that gives them any value. LAL wanting them lotto protected makes them valueless. The gamble that it could be a lottery pick is what makes the pick being so far off have any value at all.

GSW have never been linked to Bojan AFAIK. I wish they were because I want Kuminga.

I'm not sure the Nerlens/Klutch settlement timing is completely coincidental given the rumblings he'd be packaged with Bojan to the LAL.

"As the trade deadline inches closer, the sense is there is a decent chance Detroit’s front office will get offered the pick it is looking for"

Tanking team with Troy Weaver says were not trading a guy. We hear twice a week about trade rumors for said player. Then its not trading unless getting unprotected pick. Now we see the FO expects to get said pick.

Doesnt sound like were trading him

Didn't we hear similar sentiment about Jerami Grant?

I think the media speculation had us with less posturing with Grant. I still remember multiple posters saying we wouldnt trade him as well despite it being obv we would.

Par for the course for Weaver with us has been his commitment to building through the draft and adding extra picks. Holding BB will mean passing up on a pick AND hurting the tank with extra wins.

When we hear all of the rumors and are already being told the FO expects to get said pick have to at least think its likely at this point. Not trading BB would be very uncharacteristic of Weavers time with us and uncharacteristic of the #2 from the Presti tree.

If the Pelicans are indeed interested in Bojan as per the wiretap, Weaver has to do whatever it takes to pry Herb away from them. They have a ton of talent, and could use multiple shooters.

Bojan+Burks+future pick, don't care.

There has to be a way. Or grab that Lakers pick, and hope the Lakers continue to crap the bed. I believe that he is a future all-defense, and a perfect fit at the 3 for the Pistons.

Yessss. I like Herb.
More I think about it I'd prefer a player to add to our core over a draft pick. Especially a far out pick like Lakers.
So Pelicans, Suns and Warriors hopefully he goes to

You'd have to imagine that 2027 Lakers first would be part of another deal before 2027 most likely. That said, the 2023 unprotected Lakers pick the Pelicans currently own is quite interesting as it could end up being pick #20 if the Lakers go on a bit of a run and finish with the 5th or 6th seed in the West and it could end up being a late lottery pick with a small # chance of moving into the top 4. It's a high risk and high reward pick for sure. The West is so close right now its a bit insane as the Lakers currently sit at 20-24 which is 13th in the West (ahead of only OKC and HOU) but they also are just 2 games behind the 6th seed Warriors so in a week they in theory could win 3 or 4 games in a row and shoot up the Standings.

The West being super close really makes any of the picks from those teams super boom/bust as far as the wide range they could finish.

I would rather just keep Bojan.

I'm not sure where the confusion is coming from.
You said "It appears that Bojan's last days as a Piston are here" then posted an article that didn't imply that at all. What am I missing?
You quoted the first part but then left out... which would then prompt the team to seriously weigh the risk and reward of departing with a known quality player for an uncertain asset "Seriously weigh the risk/reward" sounds more like 50/50 to me.

I'm not saying that he won't be traded but I don't see it as some surefire thing based on that article at least or anything else we've heard.
You can draw off of history because he traded Grant but Grant was also eligible for a bigger extension and the Pistons were one year further back in their rebuild at that time. I'd say that they are closer to winning time now (or at least they better be) so keeping the more known quantity might be more important to them now.

They aren't getting Herb Jones for Bojan plus other lesser stuff. I'm not even sure how realistic the 2023 Lakers 1st especially unprotected is.
I think the 2027 Lakers 1st unprotected is probably the best we can expect and I'm lukewarm on that at best unless Trader Troy parlays that into something else like he did with the 2025 Milwaukee 1st.

Mavs actually might end up being the most desperate team to make a move for Bojan (or Burks). They have Luka signed up for 3 more years after this and he is one of the few elite players (Giannis, Steph, Embiid, Tatum, Ja, KD, etc) that doesn't have another all-star player. At least Jokic had two MAX type players even though the Nuggets have been hit by injuries.... Nuggets also best in the West right now so they likely don't feel the same heat. When your second best player is Christian Wood and you just messed up the Brunson situation by not extending him, you're bound to face to heat. Mavs are behind the Kings right now and not far from teams like Utah and OKC and the one thing that could cost Luka that MVP this year (IMO) is if the Mavs are the 6th, 7th, or 8th seed out West because his stats put him at the top but team record is lacking a bit.

I'm expecting Bojan to be held and moved during the off season, much like Grant. Entertaining offers at this point is good groundwork for a future deal while exposing what's available. These conversations could make it easier to make a minor deal for Burks and/or another by the deadline.

If Bojan remains healthy and productive through the season I'll be looking forward to Weaver pulling off an interesting deal before the draft.

I wonder how Weaver evaluates the risk/reward given Bojan's age. Time will tell.

Hasn't the emergence of Murphy made Herb Jones available? I'm trying to figure out a way to get rid of Bagley too and work Jaxson Hayes into the trade (but his cap hold is a problem for the off season).

w/ LAC

Hayes, Livers, Bagley for Batum, Covington, 2nd 2023, 2nd 2024

I've made a variation to it before. Both teams do a little trade-off.

For DET:
we get 1.5 years of Batum/Covington instead of 2.5 years of Bagley and we end up with some cap space where a Hayes re-signing would've been. The two 2nd's mean we have a small chance of getting good players who are just a bit younger and cheaper. Batum and Covington might even re-sign for cheap if they fit well. They will be versatile vets for now. The 2nd's shouldn't be late. The 2024 2nd might be early.

For LAC: they aren't going to give up on this season even though things look gloomy. They might trade PG/Kawhi in the off-season though. For now, the incoming players might actually help their playoff push. If nothing else, all three incoming players are significantly younger in case they have to "give up" after the season. The Bagley contract isn't terrible. His PER is surprisingly good. Batum isn't in the rotation for some reason, but that's a deep team.

It’s easy to feel confident about the Pistons future listening to Weaver, because I want to believe it.

That doesn’t make it true, though.

Return to Detroit Pistons
