How many teams would take "a gamble" on him at the veteran's minimum, or perhaps two years with the second year being a team option for bigger $ (effectively paying him IF they luck out and he doesn't get suspended/banned during the upcoming season and he's good)?

There's been no formal charges yet, and it could be many months or years before anything official manifests. If the league formally suspended or banned him at this point, I'd think the players union would have to come to his defense.

Yes, he's clearly a trainwreck, but we all knew that going in (jail and Larsa Pippen? Sheesh!). But, he's been good off the bench, brings entertainment on the court, and the controversy could raise some team's profile until the axe falls.

Sad thing vet minimum wouldn't help him with the money hole he's in from the sounds of it.

Pistons definitely dodged a bullet here. Gotta think his money issues were extra motivation behind his play last. Makes me doubt we'd get same Beasley next season if he got the same contract Duncan Robinson got.

Starting to seem like this guy doesn't have much in the way of integrity.

Being a godawful manager of your finances doesn't make you an unsavory guy, but if these reports are legit it sure seems like he is routinely and deliberately dodging his obligations and liabilities.

If these reports are true, its not hard to envision him making the leap to orchestrating shady gambling activities.

I guess we'll see. Regardless, this guy is definitely not worth the headache. Which it seems many other teams, already came to that conclusion about him.

"Let me say this about Malik Beasley. He's not guilty. These are reports. But sources told me that this situation is worse than the Porter situation. Like literally, it's worse than that," revealed Perkins.

KP's takes are garbage. He's like the Jim Cramer of NBA pundits. You'd generally make money betting against him.

Not sure that this really gives me hope. But, it's something.

Not guilty, but the situation is worse than it was for a guy who was guilty. Unless he thinks Jontay wasn't guilty either.

Strange thing to say. I would pay it no heed.

If he said it under the ESPN umbrella, he would have to let his bosses know of his bosses, I think. And I know this isn't the case, since he's "independently" saying this, but ESPN doesn't care?

Man, Malik. If this turns out poorly and he ends up banned from the league and does some time, this is gonna be one of those ‘Do you remember?’ moments in a decade or two.

Do you remember when Malik Beasley almost led the NBA in threes while playing off the bench in Detroit and then ended up behind bars? Crazy stuff.

I’m still hoping for the best.

He probably won’t be back this year but I envision a Disney ending.

He bounces around the next 2 seasons and just as the Pistons ascend into being true contenders, he returns to the team to win the championship and redeem himself.

If this is true, jail and bankruptcy might save his life. Sounds like he might owe the wrong guys some money.

In my opinion, this should be its own thread, but did you notice Malik Beasley fixing Piston games last year? There are already videos online showing questionable plays.

Questionable plays? The context would matter. It's 1000 times easier for him to just affect his own player props (e.g. score under 18 points) than to change the outcome of a game. For Beasley the biggest questionable play all year is without a doubt fumbling the ball at the end of game 5. But considering he went 6/13 from three that game, there's zero reason to believe he was trying to lose the game. I'd be curious what his stat lines were in the games where he made these questionable plays.

It’s possible, and I get the instinct to draw that connection, but I think if any player were accused you could retroactively put together a montage of “questionable” plays. Players choke.

I’ll wait for concrete evidence.

I agree with you snakebites, just like any ref call during the Tim Donaghy era. Based on the level of problems it sounds like Beasley had, there is little doubt he manipulated at the least his own stats with the pistons, if not games in general. That would be pretty tough to fumble that ball at the end of the knicks game on purpose.

Pistons were informed ahead of time of the situation.

I guess I'm glad they were. And it also explains why there were reports of us using our cap space on other players ahead of the start of FA. The pivot had already begun by the time we heard about the situation.

The crazy thing is after doing some reading. A lot of this came to a head for Beasley personally during the knicks series which he played like crap. Not saying he fixed those games, but his kind was sure elsewhere.

I doubt he would be fixing Pistons game. Pretty sure he knew he was being investigated at that point.
