Williams urged Thompson to keep shooting, especially when the shots come in the flow of the offense. “He needs to. That’s our mentality. If you work on it in practice, do it in the game or come sit out,” Williams said before Sunday’s loss to Phoenix. “We never want guys thinking about shots, especially when they come in the flow of the offense… Keep working, but don’t show any signs of backing off from taking shots. This is part of any young player’s growth, and all young players go through it.”

I posted this in the general NBA rookie discussion... but thought it was worth mentioning here as well.

Ausar is the only player in the NBA averaging at least 9 RPG, 1.5+ SPG, and 1.5 BPG.

Ausur and Herb Jones are the only two players in the NBA averaging 1.5+ SPG and 1.5+ BPG.

If our defense stays at least middle of the road he could get some votes for all defensive teams this year if he keeps this up.

Also worth nothing, Ausar is top 5 in the league in offensive rebounding of contested rebounds. This means he's going into a crowd or battle defenders to get those offensive boards. Everyone else on the top 10 list a big and Ausar is the only wing in that group.

Ausar is a gamer. I wanted someone who'd do more to provide spacing on the wing, but I'm thoroughly won over. Love how Ausar plays.

Ausar with a developed offensive game is a super star. That's great upside at pick #5.

I’m so happy we drafted him. If he gets a shot is it crazy to say he and wemb will be close or is wemb just that much better? Ausar averages more assists and boards atm. Very happy he dropped to us. If he gets a shot he’s an insane player. Him getting a shot might be a big if cause it looks like he has a set shot not like a pull-up or off dribble one. Idk what wemb shot looks like.

Wembanyama is in another stratosphere as a prospect. Ausar's ceiling is an elite two way player who can maybe compete for 2nd or 3rd team all nba at his best. Wemby can be a top 10 player ever.

He's already so good at the things that many young players struggle with or never develop. If he can improve his handles and find his shot, he'll be an absolute monster.

Why is he on another stratosphere? I haven’t seen him play, but seems ausar can dish and board, can be one of the best defenders in league. He just doesn’t have a shot. So is that what puts wemb on a different stratosphere?

I gotta admit wemb has screwed me on 2 bets this year, not getting over 15 points last night and not getting 2 blocks in his first game. So I’m a little salty, lol.

If ausar shot 34% from three I don’t see any reason he couldn’t be a top player in the league. I don’t know if he’s capable of that. Seems looking at the #s that’s all wemb has different.

7'4 with his level of athleticism and mobility, can't teach those physical gifts. Dominant big men can generally be more impactful because they can anchor the entire defense and protect the rim. And although wemby isnt a good shooter yet his form looks good and he looks comfortable shooting. The 38 point game was a sign of things to come.

Ausar is an elite athlete too, he shows all the makings of a future 1st team all defense wing and has a nice feel for the game, but he has a long way to go offensively. Him and sasser have been the bright spots this season so far.

Wemby can defend the rim rim and perimeter simultaneously, handle, and shoot over literally anyone, with touch.

Ausar advanced numbers are impressive. As a 10 games rookie he is alread a positive impact player, and he is very bad offensively, that's how crazy his defense is.

We got a good one, we need a few more.

We don’t have a good enough offense to take full advantage of what he brings. There’s still hope he develops offensively though. He’s been one of the only things worth watching so far.

Yes. They talk about his offense as well. I think in a few years he will be a good offensive player, he have a very high BBIQ, he just need to slow down a little bit, he loses control too often.

It's a very good video, worth the time.

He kinda reminds me of young Tmac. Like Toronto Tmac.

Soon we'll know a good comp for Ausar. He is close to 400 minutes played in the NBA. Once he reaches 500 minutes played we can run the simulation and see the data, I know you're not an advanced stats guy, but still, it should be fun to see what the data say.

FWIW, Luka's comp was prime Tmac.

Yeah both Duren and Ausar would thrive on a team with a really strong PnR lead guard and shooters. Pistons dont have either.

Need someone like Haliburton at PG, Ausar could play SG/SF with Cade. Need a PF that could shoot and at least average defense and then Duren.

This kid is the lone bright spot in what has been a season that's been mostly unwatchable. He's the real deal and has lots of time to improve offensively too.
