Maybe we can sign Ray McCallum. I've had my eye on him since he was on the Kings.

Re: Around the League
Sounds like the Hawks are all over him, but if SVG is concerned about PF depth, making a play for Kris Humphries would be a solid move.

Ray McCallum and that nightmare Ty Lawson are available. I think they are both better than Blake, so hopefully we sign one of them.

I like RayMac and kinda wanted him for some time when he was on that ever-imploding Kings team. I think he could be a good young asset that can flourish in SVG's PG dominated system.

Re: Around the League
This Orlando team is hot garbage and I still cant believe they gave up Harris for Erson and Jennings. What in the HELL were they thinking?
People love to say "Orlando has alot of young talent" and I just see alot of young players minus so much the talent.
Maybe I need to watch a bunch of Magic games to see what the word is.

Re: Around the League
To me Zeeb ORL went the PHI way of just acquiring young talent with no real plan in place going forward and they're seeing how it can blow up in their faces..It's why I'm in such awe of SVG and Co. with what they've done in such a short amount of time..BOS would be another good example..

Reminds me of the Clippers tanked for 10 years and they got all those young guns while none of them panned out. I would absolutely hate to be a part of that. Tank if you have to for 1 or 2 years, but anything more than that is a GM who is a complete failure at his job. SVG never believes in tanking and has said so many times. Pistons rebuilt without tanking. That is admirable.

I don't think Udrih is much of, if any, improvement over Blake.

Actually I think that's the Charlotte model of "keep drafting young, athletic defenders that can't shoot; panic when the offense stays awful and trade for vets." They just haven't found their Al Jefferson to drag them into treadmill town. A healthy, in-form Jennings might do it for them next year if he's still there.

Re: Around the League
What makes me puzzled about the move is that Harris is the young talent so moving him for Erson and Jennings makes zero sense.BadMofoPimp wrote:detroitKG wrote:To me Zeeb ORL went the PHI way of just acquiring young talent with no real plan in place going forward and they're seeing how it can blow up in their faces..It's why I'm in such awe of SVG and Co. with what they've done in such a short amount of time..BOS would be another good example..

Its like a chess player who just decides after buying all his pieces to unload a bishop or rook, for two pawns because he doesnt understand how to use said pieces and opts for two that he knows how to use.
Just screams of incompetence. What is slowing down the Magic is Vucevic. He can score and is pretty damn good in the post but teams HAVE to have a stopper in the lane. He is bad on the pick and roll, and bad man to man. They should have traded him for a shot-blocking pick and roll bigman.
Shot blocker(imagine Drummond)
Gordon/harris
Harris/Gordon
Dipo
Payton(I dont know if im sold on him because of his poor outside shooting and somewhat eratic play but hes young)
Weird front office.

1) Problem is no team out there are trading away their shot-blocking pick and roll Centers. I haven't seen any traded the past few years. You either make it work and obtain a PF who can protect the lane and run pick n rolls. That is a coaching problem not being able to make that work.
2) As far as Harris being traded, rumor is Henny intends to use the $17mil per he gave Harris to go after an elite talent or tier 2 talent like Chandler Parsons or somebody. To me, that is more of a lateral move than anything else.
Obviously, the Magic has a plethora of nice young talent that hasn't learned how to play together yet. Part of that is coaching and the other part is bad GM'n.

I think Orlando just wanted desperately out of Harris' contract and took ( i have got to imagine) the first offer they got. He wasn't having his best season, but i have got to imagine some team would've included a 1st for him with a similar offer like we gave up.
Oh well, Orlando hasn't really seemed like they completely understand what they are doing in a while.
Off topic, but the one that still gets me is that they bought out Jameer Nelson while saving $6 mil and then signed Ben Gordon at $4.5 and claimed Willie Green at $1.5. They opened that much money to sign those 2?!?!?

I agree with everything you have said. Henny, who is a very young rookie GM, has made many head scratching moves. But, he is an excellent evaluator of youth talent as he has displayed with his drafting skills. I think he would make a great scout, but is a bad GM.
As far as Harris is concerned, I don't think he fits the Skiles profile from what he wants from his PF's. And, when it came time to resign last summer, most GM's know that you can't just let Assets walk. Especially once they lost out on Milsap, they couldn't let Harris walk.

As an seasoned armchair GM I would have re-signed Tobias after whiffing on milsap as well. Harris who didn't fit and was the odd man out (vuc expensive, Gordon young and on a rookie contract with potential) he didn't fit anymore like Greg Monroe. I'm pretty sure Orlando explored other options for Harris before the Piston Deal but we offered a way out without taking on any salary or unproductive players. I always thought this was a great deal for both sides.
On a related topic I love orlandos roster compared to some of the other young teams namely jazz Philly Boston and phx. Boston has silently become an overrated team of the future for me. The BK picks are potentially great but it depends on if the pick lands top 3 this draft isn't very good and there's only 1 Ben Simmons and honestly I'm not that hype over him but he would improve their roster. Let's assume Boston lands the number 3 pick in the draft. Who do they select? Simmons gone and let's assume Ingram is gone as well. They are left with a foriegn big who is not on the same level a kristraps, brown who can't shoot, Dunn who plays the same positions as their best player and they are loaded in the backcourt with unproven talent. Only option is to trade for a superstar (cousins?) but how often does that happen or even work out and leads to a championship (Howard, Melo, Harden, dwill) or they can just collect assets that don't fit like the 76ers. This team could be treadmill soon like the Hawks if the Brooklyn picks never work out they are having a great year but they need a blue chip prospect to become legit and a shot blocker.

Thing with Boston will be they only have $27mil on their cap this upcoming off-season. They can go hog wild on the Free Agent market with a solid supporting cast already in place for whomever they pick up. Boston is already in a great position for success and is attractive to free agents being they have awesome coaching and been to the playoffs consecutive years while still improving.
Brooklyn is looking years of mediocrity or bottom feeding as well as Philly. Phoenix can still be a playoff team if healthy. Utah has interesting young talent (Gobert/Hayward/Favors), but I would like Detroit or Orlando better.
Pistons can just add solid role players and take the next leap next year. I am unsure what Orlando can do, but they have enough cap room to absorb up to (2) Max players to add to exciting young guys. It will get interesting in a few years there.
