I would imagine one of the other teams involved would take White, and take a look at young/dirt cheap labor. Jersey may even need him or Summers to get to the roster minimum. Its really all just speculation because I don't know what the outlined deal is.

I think Dallas has already offered draft picks to NJ for Murphy in the past. Maybe that's what happens. A couple low #1s for Murphy?

Pretty sure Dallas is over the cap, so they would probably be offering Butler's (out for season) expiring or something and any picks. That wouldn't help the Nets put vets around Melo...

If (knock on wood) we acquire Murphy and Dallas wants to make the same deal with us... I'd definitely think about it.

According to Wojo this is the deal

Pistons trade: Rip
Pistons get: Murphy, Petro

NJ trades: Harris, Favors, Morrow, Uzoh, Murphy, Petro, 2 firsts
NJ gets: Billups, Melo, Rip, Sheldon, Anthony Carter

DEN trades: Billups, Melo, Sheldon, Carter
DEN gets: Harris, Favors, Morrow, Uzoh, 2 firsts

Denver definitely takes a kings ransom in this deal. Melo already refused to extend with Denver, and its widely known he won't be back. And Chauncey doesn't really fit in the direction they are about to go in. Yet they would be getting a somewhat young former all star PG with a reasonable contract, 2 future 1sts, and a blue chip prospect fresh off being a top 3 pick? WOW

I was thinking the same thing. The only risk the Nets should be taking right now is Rip for Murphy and Petro. They should be waiting on Melo. I guess they really do not want the Knicks getting him.

I wonder who we release if this deal goes through. There's only two guys that would make sense IMO, Summers or White. I'd let Summers go nut neither would be too big of a deal.

Maybe they will include cash for us to buy out Petro.

Reportedly, the deal could be done soon and include between 13 to 15 players. Terrico Whites name has been mentioned a few places. If the Rip for Murphy (without our 1st) is true, it's a steal for Detroit. We get rid of Rip for an expiring and don't lose our pick or any important players. I really hope this goes down. I love Rip and respect his time here, but he's better off somewhere else where he could be a leading option on offense and have a fresh start. Might do him well.

This is insane. How is Denver making out so good. Billups supposedly doesn't want to be traded. Carmello wants out and they are getting setup for the next 3-5 years in a perfect spot.

Amazing.

Aren't you going to RAGE if Billups, RIP, & Carmello all mesh and go on a nice 3 year run?

Damn this sudden love declaration from Melo to Rip is kinda embarassing. I wonder if Rip knew. In fact I wonder if Melo's girlfriend knew.

I'm on board with this. Petros deal is not that bad at all and we can cut Terrico White if need be. We get an expiring for Rip straight up. And we get to keep our 1st. This would be sweet as hell. :D

Nope. If that happens, good for them. I don't see it happening, but whatever. We aren't on the bubble of being a contender. Moving Rip and starting over with capspace is best for our team right now. We need to build around our youth. Can't do that when Rip/Tay want to dwell on the past and pretend they are still defending champs.

Denver is making a killing in general, not even taking into account that everyone knows Melo is walking at the end of the year. They should feel really lucky.

This quote from the Woj article was interesting

One front-office executive said Anthony is “on board” with signing a three-year, $65 million extension with the Nets – provided New Jersey completes the Detroit part of the deal.

“He wants to play with Rip,” the source said.

He wants to play with Rip that bad? huh

Shouldn't Detroit be asking for a couple of picks for Rip if Carmelo wants Rip in order to sign an extension?

Or we can use some of Mikhail's money

yes, all thanks to their agent Leon Rose...i think they will try to get Paul there too

BUT if this trade was imminent Melo and Chauncey woudln't play today, so i am still skeptical, because they are playing right now
