I'm not going to continue to explain my opinion on the off-season to you when I've attempted to do that and you specifically have chosen to ignore it!

That's your choice but I see no need to go back and forth all year.

Lots of narratives have changed since the games began - perhaps yours can too ?

I actually believe the reason nobody signed him to a big contract is he has a bad rep. Hes a loud mouth and coaches don't like him. Likely not a guy Casey likes.

Woods not a franchise player. That said he IS a all star level player. A modern day 4. He hustles his ass off. Most imporantly to me he would be by far the most enjoyable player on the team to watch. Like how can you not love watching him play?

Would he be the difference maker in us tanking this year? Nope we would still be awful. Could he be a nice 2-3rd guy if we landed a superstar or two in the draft? Yup he sure could.

Again like I said to me the most important thing was he made us a much better watch. Very undervalued how much a entertaining player is worth to fans. Huge mistake not keeping him.

The problem is that our GM is nuts. Knowing all of the damage he has done, signing Wood for a little bit more than $41 million makes more sense than shelling out $105 million for Grant, Plumlee, and two guys that we stretched.

Ladies and gentlemen..... Tenth Pick Troy!

1-5 thus far

10th Pick Troy?

That's gold

Much of the opinion which you've shared with me had little grounding in fact, and, in fact, you ignored my rebuttal.

Why should I care about narratives?

Wow.

Extremely suspect decision making.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Can't believe Pistons would only offer $8 million. That just shows they didn't want him at all. MLE was 3 years $30 million and of course other teams would offer him that.

We literally could have had him for 3 years $36 million or $39 million because it looks like no one with cap space offered him more.

He's going to average 20+ and 10+ this year with a PER in the 23/24 range which is better than anything we have. He would have been great next to Grant in a PF/C combo.

This is where you want a owner with BBIQ that can step in. We all knew Wood was a 20 and 10 Allstar level player and 8 mil per year is insulting.

I still believe there was more to letting him go than basketball skills.

While you can argue he was largely unproven it was obvious to everyone he could put up big numbers when given the chance.

As a rebuilding team, lacking big men we decide to low ball him?

And the prevailing opinion is that our FO is as dumb as a box of hammers?

Gotta think the "character" side of things was why he wasn't wanted.

Report that the Pistons weren’t willing to go over $8M/year for him (less than the MLE!)

How stupid can a team be?!?

For those old enough to remember, pretty much the same thing happened with Alan Houston. Team tried to lowball the crap out of him.

My take, and the last I’ll say on this particular subject, is that I’ll never assume I know more than guys who made a career out of doing a job I’ve never done. Yes, it’s disappointing to see an organization take players over someone like Donovan Mitchell when a lot of Joe Blows on this board wanted him, and rightfully so (especially since he has a great last name :)) But that wasn’t Weaver. And no one cried that Weaver was a bad hire yet now call him incompetent solely because he didn’t re-sign Wood. Weaver clearly made some good picks and the results are clearly positive; if you can’t see the core of a good team forming I don’t know what to tell you because it’s clearly there IMO. Once again, yes, I really liked Wood and I would have liked to see him stick around. But I’m definitely going to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who has a lot more experience building a good NBA team than I do.

Oh but here's where the negative people will go:

Weaver has never built anything! Presti did it! Weaver had a voice in the room but was merely one of many and we don't know what, if any influence he had on the bigger picture.

Obviously he doesn't know much about the cap since he had to stretch 2 different dudes.

Obviously doesn't know the game since he let Wood go.

Obviously not a great scout either since he picked Hayes at 7 instead of Haliburton.

The dude is clueless, wasted money on Grant and Plumlee too!

Think that just about covers it

I would not give any GM benefit of the doubt for offering Wood the same amount that they offered to Mason Plumlee.

Dumars picked Darko and yet still won a championship.

Less than the MLE for Wood, who was arguably our best player and still only 25 years old???

Then you pay Plumlee more than that?

Then you pay Grant more than double that??

Figures....can’t even make this crap up
