Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
I remain very confident Cade will keep improving. The things he's good to great at are not going to go away. What will be improved, the efficiency and t.o.'s will fall in place and he will be a special talent for years imo.

Have said this forever but whatever:
How a human being is wired does matter!
You can draft whatever skillset you like
I'm taking mentality every day all day.
Give me those guys
Eventually that produces wins.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
posted this on the GB in the rookie thread but cade is starting to really ramp up his drive and kick game:
whitehops wrote:here's some highlights of cade against the bucks yesterday, just to highlight the attention defenses are giving him and how he's making plays despite the attention:
these plays are all out of the pick and roll or cade iso'ing up:
0:36 - takes a DHO on the wing and hits a spinning floater over grayson allen with four bucks in the paint defending
0:52 - attacks off the dribble, draws four bucks into the paint and hits bey for a wide open three
1:11 - attacks portis off the dribble and draws four bucks into the paint (see a theme here?), kicks out to JJ for a 3
1:37 - soft trap on the PnR (happened throughout the game) so he threads the needle and hits diallo on the slip
2:35 - poor angle by cousins in the PnR and cade takes advantage, getting a layup in the packed paint
these are just some examples of what has become a common theme in pistons games. teams are happy letting guys like saddiq bey and diallo go off because they're throwing the farm at cade but he's still making plays. heck in this game too he hit a couple buckets down the stretch iso'ing up giannis and jrue holiday.
not a lot of people watch pistons games and it's hard to exceed expectations when you're the #1 pick but cade is definitely showing why he was the #1 pick.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
I think it's time the three people who gave this pick an E grade man up and admit it. And maybe they were trolling posters from other teams, but if they were Pistons posters they should step up and admit they were wrong. Even if Cade doesn't turn out to be the biggest star of his draft, he sure as hell isn't ever going to be a horrible pick even if he never gets any better than he is right now.
That being said I don't expect these people, if they were Pistons posters, to step up. Exercising humility is not a virtue found in abundance.

Oh yeah and who was the blithering idiot that said he wouldn't play 25 games this season? I can't remember the poster but people like that shouldn't be allowed to be around.Manocad wrote:I think it's time the three people who gave this pick an E grade man up and admit it. Yeah, he's clearly the goods. I don't think he's going to break any records even if he maintains a nice long NBA career, but he's definitely rounding into a potential triple double any game type of player.

This should surprise no one:
Rip32 wrote:I predicted Cade would only play about 25 games this year. So far, everything coming to fruition
Didn't take that long to chase it down, actually.
Last I checked Cade had played 27 games this season with no indication he won't play the remaining 46. So Rip32 my man, your prediction officially fruitioned itself right down the toilet.

Would you trade Tatum for him?

I think the better question is to ask why.

Which three rookies do you think will be best, in order?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
I'm torn on taking him #1 given the benefit of hindsight. Mobley and Barnes have been better, but Cade has a position and skillset that may give him a higher impact ceiling.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
Right now in a redraft, I'd go:
1) Mobley
2) Cade
3) Barnes
I have absolutely zero qualms about taking Cade, though.

Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
I think Mobley with his Kevin Garnett and Bosh flashes make him a better overall talent in this day and age. He's probably 1 with Cade being a fairly close 2 with the early forecast.
Having a legit 7 footer that can defend and move like Mobley are really rare these days. And he can score too, that's tough. Just out of rarity, it's hard not to tip your hat his way
Not to mention his team is winning already and would won more if not for covid and random injuries

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
if there was a re-draft today i would still want the pistons to take cade. it's still early and i see no reason why the pistons would take someone else.
i also wanted to say that a subtle improvement i've seen of cade recently has been his care with the ball. in summer league and earlier in the season i saw a lot more sloppy/careless dribbling and passes but i feel like i don't see those plays very often anymore. considering his loose dribble was one of the biggest pre-draft concerns and it looks like he's already tightened that up a bit i feel pretty confident he'll be able to handle a more dominant ball-handling role in the league. i noticed he's also starting to put more zip into his passes which tells me he's adjusting to the speed of the nba, he got picked off a ton earlier with slow passes.
i don't know if it will happen this season but i still have the feeling that soon things will click for cade and he'll take a big leap.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
Bigs become overrated as rookies and projections become to optimistic. They are almost always asked to do much less than guards on offense and on defense are told to rely on instinct 1:1 and as help. It’s why someone like Drummond looked like an All Defense type his rookie year. That said, Mobley looks great, but I don’t see his as the superstar people are projecting him as. I still see Bosh lite which is still an all star. I’ll take Cade at 1 stil
