The Pistons aren't winning much anywhere anymore, but especially at The Palace. Losing for the sixth time in seven games at home, the Pistons lost Wednesday to the Atlanta Hawks, 99-95. It was the third straight loss for the Pistons, and the 12th in their last 17 games. Joe Johnson scored 28 and former Piston Flip Murray 23 for the Hawks. Allen Iverson, battling the flu, led the Pistons with 27 points, 15 of them in the fourth quarter. Rip Hamilton scored 14, and Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey had 12 points each.
Behind Iverson's shooting, the Pistons closed to 86-84 with 6:07 in the game. But Murray and Johnson made consecutive buckets to extend the Hawks lead. The Pistons closed to within two points on an Iverson lay-up, 97-95, with 8.8 seconds left. But Johnson made two free throws to close out the scoring. Murray scored 10 of the Hawks' last 12 points in the third quarter, enabling Atlanta to pull into a 76-68 lead. The Hawks led at halftime, 48-46, and opened up a six-point lead early in the third quarter before the Pistons rallied behind Iverson and Stuckey.
A bucket by Stuckey gave the Pistons a 64-62 lead, but Atlanta went on a 14-4 run to end the third quarter with Murray doing most of the damage. The first quarter ended tied at 24, but Antonio McDyess sparked a 12-4 Pistons run to start the second quarter and give the Pistons a 36-28 lead. But Atlanta roared back behind Joe Johnson and Murray to take a 48-46 halftime lead.
