Re: Around the League
With Cousins joining the Warriors I might just cancel my cable and take a season off from NBA. The only thing interesting will be if/when they win 74 games and if they can go 16-0 in the playoffs but there is no chance of them not winning the championship this year. Honestly, it doesn't even make sense for the Rockets to go big into the luxury tax to give Capela a big deal now. Also, why did Dallas blow their cap space on Jordan when they might have been able to get Cousins for $80 million over 4 years.

Yeah going to be a lame season. This would of been the ideal time for the pistons to tank so in like 4+ years when this warriors dynasty +Lebron is done we could try to win something. Gores doesnt think that far ahead though.

Brilliant by both the Warriors and Cousins...reasoning for the Warriors is obvious but Boogie gets to take his time coming back and show that he deserves a big contract next year. All while most likely getting a ring in the process. lol

I am not watching hardly any games outside a Pistons or Magic game here and there to see if players are developing. I won't watch any other teams tho. GS just made the league a joke.

Re: Around the League
Yeah, honestly I'm strongly considering not watching the NBA next year.
I think that might have been the last straw. I wouldn't be surprised if I came around by the time the season starts (it's a long offseason, after all), but man is that demoralizing.

Re: Around the League
A 300LB seven footer coming back from a full Achilles tear is no sure thing. I bet this was the best offer he got - full tax payer MLE. Warriors don't NEED him to even come back, so they don't have to pressure him to return ASAP but can give him a month's extra time or more even. Any other team paying him would expect him to be back in January, Warriors will be happy if he's back in May.
He goes to a situation where he's getting paid $5.3M to rehab with no real pressure to even really play this season. I bet he was told as much in the sales pitch to him.
Every Warrior player to a man is bitch-made though. Rings are virtually meaningless since Durant joined them.
Next CBA will have an epic crack down on this and Warrior players and Lebron-Wade-Bosh will be ultimately to blame. A hard cap is coming.

Re: Around the League
Next CBA needs....
MVPs the previous 3 years to be able to make 50% of the cap
1st Team ALL NBA the previous 3 years to be able to make 40% of the cap
2nd Team ALL NBA the previous 3 years to be able to make 35% of the cap
Teams currently in the luxury tax level to only be able to sign players to league minimum salaries.
THey won't go to a hard cap because too many small market owners like getting that lux tax check at the end of the year.

Screw Drummond, I'm thinking we trade him for Love and roll with Love and Blake. That way the Cavs can start Tristan Thompson and Drummond side by side and watch as teams try in vain to get a defensive rebound against these two lol. Other than that they would suck.
the frontcourt defense of griffin/love would be the worst in the entire nba lol.

Re: Around the League
The Cousins signing may say more about his injury and progress thus far than anything else. For him to take the MLE is mind boggling, but let’s be realistic here: he’s not going to be the same player he was. That injury is highly likely to be career altering if not career ending. It may sound crazy, but I think this signing could hurt the Warriors, as they could have instead used that money to sign a few role players to strengthen their bench. Instead, they spent it on a star player who likely won’t play much this season, and when he does, he’s going to need time and patience to find his rhythm. It sounds ridiculous on paper that they landed another all-star, but in reality it likely won’t help them much.
As for the Lakers, they obviously hit a grand slam with LeBron, but my god their other signings are garbage. KCP, Rondo, and Lance are terrible fits around him, and they could have used that money to find much better complementary players on short-term deals. If LeBron opted in with the Cavs and they added those players, everyone would be mocking them right now. The Lakers need their young players to make a huge leap, which isn’t guaranteed to happen.

KCP is a good fit with Lebron. He can hit the 3 and guard Curry. Rondo and Lance? Yeah, I'm not sure I understand those. I guess they can play solid defense on the Warriors big 3.
The Cousins signing is a joke, although I agree that his injury will probably be career altering. I went from routing for the guy to just shaking my head. Maybe injured players in situations like this should become RFA's instead of FA. Pelicans gave up a lot to get him and now the Warriors basically get him for free. Obviously not good for the competitive landscape of the league.

I'm seriously wondering how the Pelicans didn't offer Cousins a dime. That dude came to New Orleans and changed the culture. Cousins and Rondo put respect on the Pelicans name!
Now people see why the Pelicans can't attract FA's. Here's to hoping Davis leaves next!

Re: Around the League
I’m thinking about how much I can accomplish with all the time I spend watching NBA games.
It’s not an easy habit to kick though, as I’m sure all on this forum can testify to. If we could kick the habit we wouldn’t post here.

If we were actually developing young players for the future i could deal with the current nba. At least then I'd be watching something for the future when this warriors dynasty ends. As things are now the ownership is trying to build a winner and mortgaging the future to do so with no chance at anything. Going to be another decade before we have any meaningful basketball.

Re: Around the League
Lakers' Rondo signing: This kills the Pelicans. In the loaded west, this is what will drop the Pelicans from playoff contention. Lakers, Nuggets, and T-Wolves will jump ahead of them. Amazing that they can't get enough help around a top 5 player to make the playoffs.
Clippers' Bradley signing: WTF are the Clippers doing? They weren't a playoff team last year, they lost DeAndre Jordan, now they are overpaying to retain the rest of their team? They are throwing away money and ping pong balls.
GS Cousins signing: This is a bad move by Golden State. With Houston losing Ariza, Golden State was far and away the favorite to win the title again next year. What does adding Cousins do? Sure, he raises their ceiling a ton, but when you are already far and away the best team, that doesn't matter so much. What matters is that he also lowers their floor. He's the type of guy whose frustration can change the atmosphere of a locker room. What happens if he thinks Kerr is limiting his minutes due to the injury too much? Or if he never gets touches when Curry, Klay, or Durant are on fire? Or when Draymond gives him some tough love? It'll probably amount to nothing, but why take that risk? Anthony Tolliver would've been a better signing.
When you're that good, you've got to be a little risk averse.

Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

New Plan for the NBA. Cancel the upcoming season. Have the Warriors do a publicity tour to every NBA teams arena to play an exhibition game against the host team ala Harlem Globetrotters. Then, after the 31 game tour is over, givem a trophy that simply says,"We the Best!!!!!!!!" with some smiley faces on there. After that, jump right into next years draft!!!!

I said it all last season and I'll say it again now, the only place Bradley wasn't valued was in Detroit. Dude is a LEGIT 3&D guy and a damn good one. Unlike frauds like Pope and GR3 that Pistons fans try to claim are quality 3&D guys.
