It's actually disgusting how much of our salary he takes up. I honestly think this was the last straw for him.
According to Mike Payne
Mike Payne wrote:What’s the point of using the amnesty provision if it won’t provide any meaningful cap relief? Without Charlie’s contract, Detroit is pretty much at the cap anyway. Why not just hold on to him until the cap relief comes naturally? As we saw this season, it’s not like we even need to have him in the rotation.

No, but they have a weak union. If teams can cut players who they don't think are living up to their contracts, than players should be able to leave into free agency if they think they are outperforming their contracts. I have ZERO issue with players in the NFL who hold out for a new contract because of this. Team signs Player X for $10M a season and he stinks it up and is cut - fair game. But if they sign Player Y for $2M a season and he's an all-pro than he should be able to opt out as well to get fair open market value.

Well said. Maybe there should be a maximum a player can get paid where they can opt out and a minimum for players that can be cut.

Breaking news from the Palace. Pistons release Charlie Villanueva. He is signed by the spare tires dance team.

Terry Foster ‏@TerryFoster971
Ousted Piston Charlie Villanueva just had a press conference. "I'm taking my talents to Burger King," Charlie V said.

Yeah, that's the sad reality.

He's going to be a caphold whether we amnesty him or not.

I'd still like to see him off our team, though.

The facts:

"Charlie was not in good form when we saw him," Calipari told Deportes en la Z. "He was overweight, and unfortunately, we could not slow down the entire team and it was a decision taken collectively. Last year, Charlie behaved really well with us and his only problem was his weight."

Just when i thought CV couldn't disappoint me anymore he goes and does this... :nonono:

I stupidly thought he was showing that he could at least give us a good 10-15 minutes a game after the few games he played to finish the season. Looks like he'll be doing nothing next season.

What an a**hole

That last sentence seems to be inferring that CV was not behaving - possibly being a negative influence. Anyone else catch that?

Calipari is just a liar. If you think CV is not a good fit just say so. He's lying about the weight issues though. Check out the yahoo article.

Being poorly conditioned doesn't have much to do with CV's weight on a scale. A large portion of CV's 243lb is probably fat, not muscle, which would still make him overweight at 243lbs. If Coach Cal thought CV could help the team out in any way, he would not have cut him, its simple really.

he used the word overweight though.

I have no problem with him cutting CV if he really cant help the team, but at least be man enough to give the real reason why, be it his behavior or that he is not in playing shape. Saying a guy is overweight though is a completely different thing, its a lie. Moreover that team can use all the help they can get. You cant tell me he cant help that team in some way. Maybe he's not the greatest in the NBA, but he'd be one of the better players on the DR national team. even if he doesnt fit Cals style of play, Cal knows he wont always be able to play HIS style of basketball, especially against better teams. In those situations, he would be able to use a guy like Charlie V. Just doesnt make sense. Especially since a high school kid that he is recruiting to go to Kentucky is also still in the running for a spot on the team. Just shady to me personally. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. I dont like Charlie V, or whatever the issue is. But he's not overweight.
