I don't mind it one bit, especially after the money we saved from the trade instead of throwing max money at Harris.

Doesn't really matter, Phoenix gave Knight $70 million and he only played 11 games for them. He and Dragic set the market this offseason and if Detroit wanted to keep Jackson around they had to meet it. I don't mind it although I am a bit surprised they decided to go with the 5-year deal. Most of the reported deals so far include a player option the last year so that's probably going to be the case here too.

Drummond should be agreeing to his extension soon too. He and maybe Anthony are the only orders of business left this offseason.

He's better than Knight, so it only made sense he'd hold out for this type of money.

I absolutely agree that it's a risk. Its not one I'm opposed to at the moment, though.

Highest paid Piston of all time.

At least until Dre decides to sign his next deal - either this off-season or the next.

Not only did Knight play very limited number of games with Phoenix, but he wasn't even very good.

This signing will look better in a couple of years when the cap has gone up, I believe. Is this the largest contract in Pistons history? I think so.

Can we still give Dre 5 years?

I've already done an example with demarre carroll's new deal, but essentially in four years his deal will be the equivalent of a player making $9 million last year.

He's perfect for the system, how he works on D and how he improved his outside shooting will be the difference in how great he becomes for us.

PS I'm glad for Reggie, he wanted to be the main PG after being in westbrook's shadow for so long and now he has his chance.

Good.

I don't mind RJ and would only see him becoming better. All-star even.

Hopefully this motivates KCP to take the next step.

I thought he would get Kemba Walker money, which was 4/48

Hope it works out for you guys

Ok so I'll do my little projection here for this contract. I just rounded his contract to $16 million flat per year, though I'm sure it increases.

All figures in millions:
Reggie in 2016 - $16
2016 salary cap - $69
% of cap - 23.2%

Reggie in 2017 - $16
Projected cap in 2017 - $89
% of cap - 18%

Reggie in 2018 - $16
Projected cap in 2018 - $108
% of cap - 14.8%

After that the cap is expected to settle at around $100 million, which obviously makes reggie's contract 16% of the salary cap.

Based on that, his contract going forward will be the equivalent of the following amounts, based on the $63 million cap last year :

2016 - $14.6 million
2017 - $11.3 million
2018 - $9.3 million
2019/beyond - $10 million

Just work on your D and that jump shot Reg and you'll be well worth the contract!

Side note: he turned down 4/48 with the Thunder a year ago.

Talk about betting on yourself and winning. And there was a stretch there where he was really struggling (both late in his Thunder time and early in his Detroit time) where it was looking like the gambit might not work out.

Good for him.

After the Knight deal I predicted we'd offer 75 and reluctantly haggle up to 80. Can't exactly say I love it, but had to be done and I'm thrilled to have him locked up. Now to take care of Dre before he hits RFA.

Just curious.

There was never really any question that Reggie was going to be on the team next year, regardless of how the contract negotiations played out (and most of us always felt this was a likely outcome). I don't think this changes anything.

Personally, I like the depth this gives us and also think that right now, coming off of such a severe injury, Jennings' value is at an all time low. Trading him now before he's proven he can still play would be unwise.

I definitely could see us shopping him into the season, though.
