Inconsistent and had really bad hands still. Not a good rebounder for his size and still weak battling Centers around the rim. Decent backup big who has a tendency to show up in big games (loves playing the Raps and I imagine Casey had a say in bringing him in), but probably just end up a pretty meh trade for both of us. Stanley's shooting splits looks rough, I know he's a very solid defender, anything else going for him ?

He will murder Kawhi with his defense, but will drive you guys nuts shooting 10 times from 3 and hitting a couple of them if he is lucky.

Stanley had to go, but Maker really stinks.

Stanley is trash. I'm sorry. He's a horrible shooter, one of the worst I've ever seen and we're the pistons lol. Defender, he's superb, he'll defend Klay in the finals if you get there that's how good he is. He's got right ideas in his head when making passes/plays but they don't usually go through. He's got zero go to moves offensively. He won't dunk, he'd rather get blocked trying to make a layup. He's okay on transition offense. He's never afraid to take a shot, he doesn't think twice about it. Maybe the coach can help him find what he's good at and to focus on it. The issue is Stanley doesn't listen to his coaches, he'd rather work on what he thinks is best for him.

He's been 90% frustration since he came, but he's shown flashes lately. I wouldn't be shocked if he became an effective player.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

The problem isn't really what SJ can do. If he just hustled and defended, he's be OK. Limited, but OK. The problem is that he still thinks he's going to be a star.

SJ is terrible. He thinks he is an offensive superstar, so in his mind, he always has the green light. Problem is, he obviously cant shoot to save his life. Getting rid of him made this team better.

If anybody can salvage a wing player, it's coach Bud. Definitely not getting my hopes up though, I think Bucks did this mainly for cap relief this summer

1) Just like the Reggie / Svi trade, we got something for an expiring contract rather than nothing. Just like when the Lions traded Golden Tate, this means Stefanski didn’t plan and / or knew he didn’t have the money to resign these guys.

2) We are stockpiling contracts that expire next offseason (Svi has a team option).

3) Not paying Bullock and Stanley says to me that Stefanski is wisely changing the way this franchise manages its cap sheet — much like Boston, it’s gonna be high paid stars (Blake, Dre, fill in the blank star acquired in the next year with all that expiring money) surrounded by cheap talent. No more $7M - $10M bench and role players, which is what it would’ve cost to re-up Bullock or Johnson; you get that production from guys on cheap rookie deals and spend your money on stars.

He's not better than Leuer, and to be frank, I'm not sure he's even more athletic than Zaza. He's a pretty awful jumper off two feet, has zero hand eye coordination, and lacks any type of balance. The guy needs a clear runway to look any type of athletic.

Sadly this is true, the only times Thon's "athleticism" matters is for weak side shot blocking. He is incredibly unathletic for an NBA player

Yeah Thon sucks and that’s fine cause I think we just prefer to go into next season with the whole roster on expirings so they can try too add someone to Blake through trade without paying to dump bad contracts doing it

He's 7'1", how much athleticism does he need? Can he run? Is he quick? He can shoot, that tells me he's better than Leuer lol

I like the thinking, but it's a thin crop - Draymond, Lowry, player options for Derozan and Porter. I think that's about it.

This doesn't make sense given Stanley makes more than Maker so we net gained more space with the Bucks swap and it had nothing to do with space opened up with Bullock trade.

And if he's talking about next year we're still $15M under the tax now and Bullock would have made more on the open market as a UFA.

Pistons get rid of two wings. There must be something else going on as we are getting thin at the SF/SG position.

Assistant coach Sean Sweeney was player development coach with the Bucks last year and would have worked pretty extensively with Maker. This is reclamation project vs reclamation project.
