If you are going to go after somebody from Boston make it Zingis, not Jrue.
I get the KD love, but that feels short-sighted. Anything short of a championship would be failure and we'd be mortgaging the future for that. Yikes!

This seems more likely than KD --- and with his weird long-covid rumored illness, you gotta think he could be had without giving up a young piece.

covid is wild. I've personally had it like I dunno... maybe 5 or 6 times? Lost count. Occupational hazard. But for sure I have brain fog, fatigue and all sortsa other crap going on. It's hard to know what's just natural aging or other random medical nonsense, but the shift has been relatively dramatic for me. Not to suggest I have *any* clue what Zingis is dealing with. Far from it. Seems like we don't know much of anything at all about it.

I would think you could get Porzingis for pretty cheap at this point. I don’t think I would want him though.

Re: What’s the latest news
Jrue will require an asset or two to move for Boston. Porzingis might return something small, but Boston will need to take some kind of contract back unless they deal with Brooklyn. Moving both would be ideal, because then they could keep all the cheaper, useful guys like Pritchard and Hauser who will still be in their primes when Tatum returns.

Re: What’s the latest news
This board is in love with Tobias, and I know he is a good mentor for the youth…but it’s like the saying “you gotta spend money to make money”…if Tobias gives us a chance at even an 80% healthy Porzingis, it may be worth the roll of the dice.
His skillset is almost exactly what we are looking for. If Cade approves behind the scenes, you get it done…we would still look to backfill with another 3rd or 4th big as insurance.
On the other hand, Trajan really values availability…and long covid is probably enough to scare him off (and rightfully so…). Still rather consider this than give up on a guy like Ivey or Ausar in pursuit of KD.

I’d prefer neither, but I understand a cheap Porzingis move as low risk, slight chance of high reward. He’d need some serious medical evals first, though. I’d rather have Tobias for 70+ games and the playoffs than Porzingis for 40 games and maybe the playoffs. We don’t have good options at PF if we swap those two and KP misses half the season.
If, however, we can do things in the right order and operate over the cap and do that AND sign one of Aldama, Naz, or Laravia (while keeping Beas and Dennis), then we might have something.

I would be hesitant to trade Sasser + Font for him straight up if it worked with our cap space. We don't really have a bad contract to give up for him and we could almost certainly find a better use of our cap space at a greater need. Schroeder for 3 years $15-$18 million($5-$6 per year) is almost certainly better option for us for a vet PG. Schroeder will turn 32 just before the start of the season and Jrue turns 35 in a few days. Even if we could get 2024 Jrue for the next 3 years it would be worth doing IMO but we're getting a 35, 36 and 37 year old Jrue. Lots of players retire in their mid 30s.
That's exactly why we could get Jrue for little.. And I think he'd be really good paired up with Cade.

We wouldn't really want to give up anything for him given his contract. We'd want assets in return.
Boston is in an awful position cap-wise. They have an aging and injured roster that they are paying a ton for. If they aren't willing to give up assets to dump him then they can deal away a more higher-valued asset instead... or pay dearly and still be deadlocked personnel-wise.
That is how we *should* be looking at a potential Jrue trade.
And given that he is nowhere near a long-term answer for us it still makes almost zero sense for us to acquire him. That additional compensation has to be pretty great for us to jeopardize being able to retain some of our young guys.

Re: What’s the latest news
Gotta keep our extensions (or trades of young guys) in mind for anything we do. Duren and Ivey have 1 cheap year left. Ausar 2. Holland 3. They’re all going to be rotation players and they’re all going to get paid.
