Following the rumor that Leon Rose is pulling the strings on this and ultimately wants to bring Paul to NJN, this deal makes sense in the offseason : Billups (exp), Lopez and whatever picks the Nets have left for Paul and Okafor.

If Joe can get rid of RIP's terrible contract, he shouldnt be too greedy

I suspect the Nets is the only team in the league that may want RIP and his contract now. And we need a change

We can definitely go for a good FA this offseason. Yes, we may have to overpay but we can afford it, since Prince, Wilcox and Murphy's expirings combined 27.5mil already

Latest chatter has us looking for someone to pawn Petro off on. WojYahooNBA just tweeted that the Nets are calling around to help us try to find someone to take him.

I'm guessing this means they don't want to give us a pick to take on his contract.

Thats assuming a lot. We don't have an owner right now, and we don't know if the owner we get will want to spend. We don't know what the new CBA will look like. And we still have Stuckey, Jerebko, and Prince to possibly resign.

But I agree in the sentiment. Personally I'd take on Petro, and cut Summers, to get rid of Rip's contract.

we shouldn't expect a pick. just get Murphy and Petro and be happy. Spin off CV and Max for expiring garbage and we'll have no payroll expect for BG, and we can start over.

^ Prince won't be re-signed. Dumars wants to take Petro out of the deal because with him the Pistons save $17 million in the offseason compared to the $25 million they save without him on the roster. If Dumars is looking for that big of a salary dump, they won't be signing Tayshaun to an extention, especially given his current contract.

I hope you're right. Ideally, the way he is playing right now, he gets traded before the deadline for something young and/or a pick.

As for the latest update: New Jersey is looking for a forth team to take on Petro

Dumars was asking for too much, a 1st round (top 5) pick ??? just to take on Petro n his contract?? I dont think NJN will be that interested in RIP at the same time

They have to take Rip because Melo wants him. Joe is playing his cards right. Do the Magic have interest in Petro?

I still think Joe asking for a 1st round(top 5) pick just to take on Johan Petro is a rip-off. Totally unfair, and no wonder NJN is looking for a forth team to deal with

People here wanna get CP3 or Josh Smith FOR **** RIP "washed up" Hamilton. goodness sake

I hope Petros little $3 mil deal isn't the thing that stops this trade from happening.
I know Joe needs to get as much value as possible, but sometimes you just need to call it a day when you've already got a good deal.
If Wilcox is injured and leaves next season, petro may be useful even if he's a little expensive.
It's only a 2 year deal.

Rip and Wilcox for Murphy and Petro would make me super happy.

I doubt Joe is asking for NJ's 2011 1st. That pick is going to Denver. If we got a pick for taking on Petro, I got to believe it's lottery protected at the very least.

If the deal comes through, Nets 1st won't be top 5, far from it. Just saying...

I said that before and will say again. Quote me saying that. I will post a few of my quotes so people stop putting words on my fingers.

That doesn't mean that it's a top 5 pick. For all we know it's a lottery protected 2015 first rounder.

This is a very exciting week for me in sports.

1. Pistons are close to being sold.
2. Rip might get traded.
3. U of M is going to get a new coach.
4. NFL Playoffs
Defense wins championships
