Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
The main reason why I wouldn't take Mobley over Cade for this particular roster is because he will likely never be a #1 option down the stretch of games (the main reason why I didn't want him at #1). Mobley was a great fit for the Cavs because they had a lot of pieces in place already so he didn't need to be the main guy on the team and having a stud like Allen alongside him certainly helped his NBA transition.
This team desperately needed "THE guy" down the stretch of games and Cade fit that profile better than any other in this draft although I really don't like where his game is trending the last 10 games or so. He looks disinterested to me or beaten down by the losing. I think Weaver will have to make moves to further winning this offseason because I don't think Cade will take well to losing if this continues much longer.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
i'm glad i saw this video because at the time i was thinking, "wow wtf was that pass?". pass is at 2:30:
i agree with the overall point in that cade can be lackadaisical with his passes at times but i'm on cade's side with this pass specifically. when it's paused, you can see stewart has like five feet of space and he has his hand up, indicating he wants a pass. so cade decides to throw it a little over where his hand is (above the person's head in the white t-shirt), just so stewart can still use his body to protect the ball. however, when cade's in the middle of throwing the pass stewart decides to put his hand down and back up like ten feet, just giving mitchell robinson a clear path to step in and intercept the ball, which would have been an easy catch for stewart if he just stayed where he was. gotta wonder how many other times that happens.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
Every once in a great while, a player comes in that is so physically dominant and/or really advanced in BBIQ that they can be a big positive impact player as a rookie. Shaq, of course. Chris Paul. Tim Duncan.
There aren’t many. Many of the superstars of the last twenty years put up big numbers as rookies, but they really weren’t that good in terms of contributing to winning.
LeBron shot 41.7% and 29% from three. Averaged 3.5 turnovers and 5.9 assists. Cavs missed the playoffs his first two years.
Durant shot 43% and 28.8% from three. Averaged 2.9 turnovers and 2.4 assists. Sonics/Thunder missed the playoffs his first two years.
There are others, but you get the point.
Do-it-all wings have a lot of responsibility. Cade likely won’t reach the level of KD or LBJ, but he’s going to get a lot better. He’s our cornerstone. We just gotta keep adding talent.

If Cade simply make a couple fewer bone headed unforced TOs per game he would be a top notch PG. They usually are completely unforced and he needs to pay more attention to whats going on around him.
We see the progress though -

Thats really it - He's what we have and there will be a lottery ticket hopefully top 5-6 this draft. Thats all folks.
Either Cade becomes great (looks like it) or this new guy becomes great. Otherwise no hope at becoming a top team. Unless we pull another 2004 Pistons - Cade is awfully like Billups but about 5 years earlier. Missing Ben Wallace and Sheed. Then some wings that make buckets.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!

Funny that Cade and Jerami Grant are both in the top 20 doubled players. Cade is the lowest points per possession on doubles, but I think that's from the unforced TOs he needs to work on.

Haha Sorry folks! False Alarm. Looked lot like Grant to me, but getting really close to the screen, I see I'm completely wrong. Sorry Beal!
Looks a lot like Grant to me, even knowing its not him.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
cade was on the latest cover of SLAM and here's a nice interview he had with them behind the scenes:
he gives a pretty honest recap of his rookie season and gives a little insight to his mentality going forward. i know it's 7 minutes long but it's worth watching imo or even listening to in the background.

Kid talks about wanting to win a lot, hopefully we don't fail him.

Yeah, it wasn't a hard pick for us to make, but it does feel great to know we made the correct pick with this guy.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
great breakdown of cade and his bball IQ/feel for the game:
worth the watch imo if you have 10 minutes to spare.

This guy is a lot higher on Cade’s D than most (including me). I’ll try and watch a little closer for his contests this year.

Re: Welcome to Detroit Cade Cunningham!!!
I think Cade is better suited to guarding SG than PG. I'm hoping that Ivey can cover the PGs.
