Atlanta couldn't get anything of value on him as an expiring a few years ago. I can't imagine his value has increased as he's gotten older and paid more since then, Combo.

This

I mean, why would you give up a lot for a player that is on a one year deal and could leave you ASAP. Seems like being on a long term deal would increase his value....

you don't think Smith's impending status as an UFA affected his trade value while ATL was shopping him?

Teams know who/what he is. I can't imagine a young team in search of a veteran leader trading for him, but a veteran playoff team in need of a talent upgrade would absolutely take a look at him.

Agreed. People automatically assume a player with a long contract is a turn-off, but if a team is really interested in that player, obviously they would rather him be signed to a longer deal than shorter, so they get more years out of him. And if its a team that thinks they may have trouble getting FAs to sign there, seeking a player on a longer deal in a trade could even be preferrable to them.

The same people who say no one will trade for a player on a 3 yr contract also say no one will give up assets for a player on an expiring contract. I guess only players on 2 yr deals can be traded then lol.

I hate any trade that involves Drummond for mid-first round picks. That isn't even a homer trade, it's just plain stupid.

I'd do the option 1 though. I don't value second round picks very highly.

It certainly did. But, who else besides the Pistons even pursued him last summer? Atlanta didn't even want anything to do with him!

I repent of 3a and 3b, but stick to the first two.

new idea #3. arranged before draft and executed in July.
chi out: 16th and 19th
chi in: 10th
why? maybe they like the guy at 10th.

det out: Jennings and Smoove
det in: 16th and 19th
why? because you watched Pistons games

phi out: 10th
phi in: Jennings and Smoove
why? we gave up Knight, Middleton, and the 9th pick for them. therefore, the 10th pick is a bargain.

16th - E.Payton
17th - C.Capella
19th - K.Porzingis

trade: Bynum and Jerebko for Jason Thompson

pg: Payton
wings: KCP, Singler, Dunleavy Jr.
bigs: Monroe, Drummond, Thompson, Capella, Porzingis

over $20m in cap left - Lowry/Vasquez/Hayward = dinosaur team and championship time

More of a "bully trade" than fair value:

Get Kyle Lowry to agree to sign in Detroit, something like 4/48 would likely get it done.

Toronto is without a starting PG. Offer them a sign and trade deal for Jennings. He only has $16.5 mil left on his deal, and they get something in return for Lowry, when they could be empty handed.

Now...how to get rid of Smith?

THAT would be cool, but I feel like toronto would rather just overpay and keep lowry

I know you're new here, Entourage. But, I like your trade proposals. They're logical for both teams, and realistic in value.

That's what I'm saying. The kings are obviously trying to win. All their positions are set other than shooting guard, where they have a question mark in bmac and PF where they have nobody. They're interested in adding vets for the 8th pick. Unless they are willing to give up the pick for a love rental, I don't see anyone that fits the bill other than josh.

No

Any starting line-up that includes Singler equals losing.

Cousins and Monroe could be one of the worst fit in the paint in the whole basketball world. No perimeter defense, no rim protecting and no reliable shoot, horrible athleticism. They never could run the court in the fast break.

I wonder if Jrue Holiday can be had in a trade.

What about this, Phoenix has 3 first rounders (14,18,27) in this draft and alot of capspace with not many players to spend it on besides Bledsoe. I just want back in this first round because it is loaded and would be willing to trade a future first to do so if we can also dump Smith in the process.

Phoenix trades pick 14 for Smith and our 2016 1st rounder
Or
18 and 27 for Smith and our 2016 1st rounder and this years 2nd rounder (38)

I like this. We would get rid of Smith and get 1st round pick this year. Until 2016 with SVG we will be playoff team (we all know that) and that pick would be late 1st round pick.
Also PHX has good roster and they dont need so much young guys in thair team and they would get starting PF (Smith would be a lot better on 4) and if they wanna pick somone in thisbdraft they still have 18 and 27 pick.
