Re: Pistons WAIVE Josh Smith
All right. I put this on the trade forum, but will hopefully get more feedback by coming straight to the source.
As much as it pains me to ask... What would you guys offer for a Jeff Green / Brandon Jennings swap?

Would be a good fit in hou. Superstar in harden and a great rim protector in Howard. I will be pissed off if he starts dunking and flying like he did w/ Atlanta.

Haha, but seriously... some people here would like him. I don't see the point in trading for a guy who's going to opt out this offseason. We could just sign him outright then and he wouldn't hurt our tanking now

He doesn't really fit the shooter mold I think we are hoping we get to play SF either.

Yeah, it sounds about right tbh.
We do hate Jennings, but replacing him with Jeff Green on our roster really doesn't help us in our current total-rebuild situation, so its certainly not something we'd give up picks or young assets to facilitate.
Right now the best thing we can do is horde our picks/young assets and try, if at all possible, to do trades that bring in more such things.
Sorry man.

Gotta hand it too Gores man. This is a nice symbol of him keeping his word to Stan on letting him run his own team and not interfering.

Can definitely see that argument. Your arguably greatest future asset at the moment is the 2015 pick. Improving the team means damaging that pick, which undermines whatever value you're getting in the trade.
It just seemed to me that most Pistons fans want Jennings gone, and Green seems to address a need (and I think it's far from guaranteed he opts out, given the cap raise doesn't project to occur until 2016-2017), so it seemed to me to kill two birds with one stone for you.
But I understand your and Ghost's reasoning. Thanks for the feedback.

No problem.
Green addresses a need for us in that he plays a position we don't currently have a starting caliber player at, but really, a team that is 5-22 doesn't have current "needs", only future ones.

Happy about this - the extra 5 mil a year against our cap for 5 years isn't very significant with the salary cap set to increase. This upcoming offseason is a big one however.

As happy as I am to be shot of the guy there is still this lingering feeling that we should have held out to the trade deadline....

Wonder if this helps our chances of resigning Monroe?

A. He doesn't.
B. As strange as it may seem to you, most of us here are fans of the Pistons as our local NBA team. Sure we all have our favorite Pistons players but we don't stop being a fan of the team due to personnel changes.
Not too mention, as Piston fans, we know what defense is. And what Josh Smith does is not good defense.

BUT HE"S GONE!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean whatever trade we could have done would have resulted in us giving up a asset or taking bad one or two bad deals. I think Stan wants the extra chunk of capspace and to try out Monroe and Drummond together so he can figure out how to handle this Monroe situation. Cause right now Monroe has his starting job back, Smith gone and we are the ones who can offer the most money.

Yeah, I guess my point was we don't necessarily know that for sure.
A better deal might have been out there two months from now, and if it wasn't this same option would still have been available then.
I'm still thrilled he's gone, there's just that small rational part of my mind saying we should have waited it out.

I think so, I think behind close doors Monroe definitely wanted him gone. Now Stan has more capspace, a 5 year deal and a Smith free roster to offer to Monroe. If Stan does want Monroe then we can give him the best contract and I doubt anyone else will be offering him a max anyways.

The culture and blueprint of this team was at a desperation state though. I think that Raptors game was the final straw for the FO. The away teams fans overpowering our own on our court was just pathetic.

Re: Pistons WAIVE Josh Smith
If we somehow get the number 1 pick I would take Okafor and let Monroe go, if we get number 2 or 3 I would re sign moose and draft Mudiay. Please basketball gods let us get a top 3 pick.

I'm betting there is a lot more to this story - if Smith was being a good soldier than they would have kept him around. I mean nobody wants to give somebody $28M to go away unless there is really a need to do it.
