Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
Money talks and Beasley walks.
Beasley wants to come back as a Piston. Unfortunately, Beasley has several loan sharks and poor choices' families to feed. Beasley needs to make more money than he would likely make as a Piston. I'm predicting another team offers more, and he's gone. <sigh>

Yeah. Teams always struggle when they have too many veterans who can knock down threes. It’s a very common team ailment. No team would ever want multiple such players.

Depending on the market he could wind up overseas until things settle down a bit.

You could have made your point without being condescending and as a mod no less. Anyway...
I'm not opposed and I've voiced my concerns about Beasley and Schroder's contributions being missed, but the roster is pretty full is all I'm saying.

He was being a lil cheeky, but so was I just a few posts earlier. I'm sure no offense is intended. I'd consider this all relatively civil for a message board. But if you can't handle a little sarcasm on the internet...NYPiston wrote:Snakebites wrote:Yeah. Teams always struggle when they have too many veterans who can knock down threes. Relax. That was the tamest form of sarcasm you could have possibly gotten. No harm intended.
Beasley loved being here and fit the the team like a glove. We have one year committed to Duncan. And even if it was more that’s no reason not to add a guy like Beasley at a cheap cost.
What specifically is your concern? Competition for minutes?
They used to say you can’t have too many bigs. Now it’s true, but for knock down shooters.

Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
According to Keith Smith the only contender who can offer substantially more than us is OKC at 8.5 Mill.
If he wants to go to Brooklyn, Chicago, Washington, or Charlotte they can pay him around double.
Who knows what Beasley or those teams want though.

Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
I can't imagine there is going to be a bidding war for Beasley at this point of the off season.
BKN: $15M in cap space
CHA: $14.1M NTMLE
CHI: $14.1M NTMLE
IND: $13.5M of NTMLE
MIA: $7.3M of NTMLE
OKC: $8.5M of NTMLE
SAC: $7.3M of NTMLE
WAS: $14.1M NTMLE
Honestly, i don't see any great fits for him right now in terms of both $$ and playing time. BKN and CHI are still dealing with their RFA wings. CHA maybe? But I doubt they want to bury knueppel. Ind isn't trying to win. Miami? maybe, but I'm not sure beasley is there type of player. OKC is stacked already. Sac? they do weird things, but that seems like a bad fit with all the perimeter guys they have. WAS isn't trying to win.
He obviously liked playing here. Not sure how this offseason impacted his relationship with the front office though. He didn't get thrown under the bus or anything, but there wasn't any real show of support either. We have a roster spot still, but there is a minutes crunch. I'd gladly take him back, but it's unlikely he's going to be showcased like he was last year since we have more overall firepower.

Like SB said, can't have enough long range firepower. TJ needs to persuade Beasely to stay in Detroit even if another team makes him a better offer. Personally I'd rather the Pistons land a PF but that can wait to the trade deadline.

How much is he going to weigh future earning potential vs. taking a bag?Snakebites wrote:According to Keith Smith the only contender who can offer substantially more than us is OKC at 8.5 Mill.

Based off of external pressure being applied, I'd expect him to take the bag. This isn't about earning his "next" contract; he needs it *now*. IF one of those teams wanted to outbid us, they probably could.

Yes. I don't know if you were being serious or making a joke, but this is the type of overseas move that I could picture happening.Kilo wrote:Does Saudi Arabia have a league?
I just don't know if he's a big enough "get" to justify, but the dude is a bucket and they have money to burn.

Yeah I could defintely see him going mercenary if the right offer was out there.
Nothing to do but wait.

Nah, he coming back. Was always wearing our workout gear in vids this summer. We saved spot. We can give him nice deal this year with promise of bigger deal at end of season. He told Langdon not to trade him at deadline, he's coming back

True enough, I probably came off a little sensitive which is unlike me.
In any event, I'm all for it if they bring in Beasley but it's going to be hard to find minutes for guys as is, specifically at the guard position.

C: Duren(26) / Stew(22)
F: Harris(26) / Duncan(22)
F: Ausar(29) / Holland(19)
G: Ivey(29) / Beasley(19)
G: Cade(31) / LeVert(17)
11th: Sasser
12th: BBall Paul
13th: JaVonte Green
14th: Bobi Klintman
15th: Chaz Lanier
Seems fine to me. Like I said, sometimes players will sit, be sick or injured and you'll get more minutes for other players. I'd be thrilled to have all that shooting around Holland in the 2nd unit it should really give him a chance to take a step forward with all that spacing.

Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
If we bring Beasley back, we have a pretty damn stacked bench. A lot of pass-happy players, including cutters who demand attention. There are guys who are going to be open at all times... It's up to JBB to put together synergistic lineups that can ball together and use the teams shooting/defensive prowess to its advantage.
I know that the front line is small-ish/thin for big bodies, but damn, if we can play smaller than our opponents and have the offensive advantage every game, it'll be up to our defensive stoppers/scheme to hold leads at the end of games. A very exciting prospect for this team going into next season. Opening day is two months from today!!!

Re: Malik Beasley: Allegations of Gambling
Indiana makes sense and has the money to outbid anybody. I can't see Beasley going overseas as I think that would limit his earnings to come back in a years time.
