Jonas Jerebko at point guard was 'interesting'
The last time Jonas Jerebko played the point, he was young teen back in Sweden. That was until Friday night, when for a short period of time, Pistons coach John Kuester called on the 6-foot-10 rookie to man the point when Chucky Atkins fouled out in the fourth quarter of the Pistons’ 110-104 overtime victory over the Hornets.

Kuester thought Stuckey was unavailable because of fatigue and several minor injuries. Other options Will Bynum, Tayshaun Prince and Ben Gordon were already out with injuries so Kuester went to a move the team had never even practiced.

Luckily, Stuckey decided to return and starred in overtime, but Jerebko’s response afterward: “Why not? It’s just another position.” As for how he looked? He didn’t play there enough to make a real judgment, but I will echo Rip Hamilton’s response afterward. “THAT was interesting,” Hamilton said.

Hamstring Injury Keeps Roy Out vs. Magic
Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy did not play against the Orlando Magic because of a sore right hamstring.

Roy came out during the third quarter of the Blazers' 120-108 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night. He had an MRI Thursday morning which confirmed the strain.

The two-time all-star leads the Blazers with 23.4 points and 5.1 assists per game.

James Fine After Eye Poke, Ankle Roll
(LeBron) James suffered two minor injuries in the second half of the loss to the Utah. He was poked in the eye early in the fourth quarter and later rolled his ankle on a drive to the basket. The Cavs did not practice Friday but James is expected to play against the Clippers.

Rip, Wallace Turn Back Clock on Hornets
(Richard) Hamilton racks up major minutes: Hamilton rarely left the court against the Hornets, playing nearly 47 of the 53 minutes, and you can't fault John Kuester for relying so much on the veteran guard. The two stints Hamilton was on the bench, the Pistons suffered a pair of mini collapses.

After playing the entire first quarter, and the Pistons holding 31-16 lead, Kuester decided to give Hamilton a breather to start the second. The ball movement and open looks that propelled the Pistons to the early lead evaporated with Hamilton looking on, and the 15 point lead dwindled to three before he returned to action. Within two minutes the Pistons were able to reestablish a 12-point advantage. The Pistons saw the same thing happen in the fourth quarter, as their seven-point advantage was down to one after just a few possessions with Hamilton looking on from the bench. As Patrick Hayes astutely pointed out in a blog post earlier this season, without the constant off-the-ball movement Hamilton provides, the Pistons offense really struggles. That truth was on full display tonight.

Ben Wallace is a monster: 21 rebounds, 13 points, five rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time Wallace pulled down 20 rebounds in a game since December 15, 2006, when he was a member of the Chicago Bulls. The gaudy stats speak for themselves, but the key thing that doesn't show up on the stat sheet, Wallace's stifling defense on David West in the closing minutes, deserves mention.

Martin Yields to Evans in Return from Injury
With shooting guard Kevin Martin set to return to the lineup that night for the first time since Nov. 4 and the team missing only swingman Francisco García because of injury, there were no more excuses. It was time to win.

Martin started and had 19 points in his return from a hairline fracture in his left wrist, hitting 4 of 10 shots and generally looking like a toned-down version of himself in 33 minutes. He picked his spots in the offense but spent long stretches yielding to Tyreke Evans, as well.

The Pistons vs. The Knicks
The 13-24 Pistons are on a second game of a back to back and the first game of a home and home with The 16-23 Knicks. The Pistons lost to the Knicks 104-87 at home on Dec. 29.

Injury Report:
Ben Gordon, Tayshaun Prince and Will Bynum are all listed as questionable. That’s a good sign considering we have had no real update on Will’s status since he re-aggravated his ankles.

Tip is at 7:30 pm EST and will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit. For the radio broadcast tune in to 97.1 The Ticket or follow the action over at NBA.com.

Three Pistons listed as questionable for tonight's game vs. Knicks
Will Bynum appears to be getting closer to returning to the lineup for the Detroit Pistons. The backup point guard is listed as questionable for tonight's game vs. the New York Knicks. That's a step in the right direction for Bynum, who has missed the past eight games with a left ankle sprain.

Ben Gordon (strained right groin) and Tayshaun Prince (left knee) are also questionable.

Starting point guard Rodney Stuckey, who sat out a portion of the game Friday night because, in coach John Kuester's words, "He just didn't feel good," is not on the injury report and is expected to start.

Hittin' The Skids
The good news: Deeee-troit finally found a way to win a bas-ket-ball game this week by pulling out a 99-90 win in Washington over the unraveling Wizards to halt a run of 13 consecutive defeats.
The bad news: Besides its ongoing need for a big man who can score and a dependable set-up man to complement its array of scoring guards, Detroit still managed to make some history with its skid even though it was not the longest losing streak in franchise history.

The Pistons actually lost 14 games in a row in both the 1979-80 and 1993-94 seasons, but this streak will be remembered because it is the NBA's fifth this season spanning at least 10 games. Which makes 2009-10 only the second season in league annals to produce five separate double-digit losing streaks by this point in January, according to our colleagues from the Elias Sports Bureau. There were five such losing streaks by Jan. 9 in 1997-98.

Double-Digit Losing Streaks This Season
Length Team Duration
18 Nets Oct. 28-Dec. 2
15 Wolves Oct. 30-Nov. 27
13 Pistons Dec. 15-Jan. 11
12 76ers Nov. 20-Dec. 11
10 Nets Dec. 9-Dec. 28

Game Thread: New York Knicks at Detroit Pistons
Tip: 7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit
Probable Starters: DET - G: Rodney Stuckey, Rip Hamilton; F: Jonas Jerebko, Chris Wilcox; C: Ben Wallace
NY - G: Chris Duhon, Wilson Chandler; F: Danillo Gallinari, Jared Jeffries; C: David Lee

Notes: I am a superstitious creature of habit, so I know that not only was the Pistons long losing streak snapped when Justin did the game thread/recap on Full-Court Press, but he's now on a personal two game recap winning streak. Unfortunately, superstition doesn't get me out of working, so I apologize in advance if I mess things up by taking my turn. As for the game, things are a bit different for these teams since they last played. The Knicks came into that game on a roll, storming back into playoff contention, while we obviously knew where the Pistons were headed. Tonight, the Pistons have the modest win streak while the Knicks have lost three of our. The Knicks are undersized and have only been going about seven deep lately, with Nate Robinson and Al Harrington as the main subs (unless you count Jonathan Bender ... and we don't). Lee, who went for 30 points and 12 rebounds against Detroit, is still playing well, and young players Wilson Chandler and Danillo Gallinari have had nice stretches recently. That said, Detroit has some matchup advantages -- Charlie Villanueva in the post is too much for anyone on NY's frontline. Rodney Stuckey is much stronger and bigger than Chris Duhon. And Ben Wallace, coming off a 21 rebound performance last night, should again be able to get on the boards if the Pistons put hands in people's faces -- the Knicks will take a lot of shots and their guys, particularly Harrington and Robinson, are very streaky. If they're off, they're both capable of 5-for-20ish nights.

Last Meeting: A 104-87 Knicks win at the Palace.

Pistons pick up third straight win
Rodney Stuckey scored 20 points, Charlie Villanueva added 19, and the Detroit Pistons won their third straight game, beating the New York Knicks 94-90 on Saturday night. Detroit snapped a 13-game losing streak Tuesday with a win in Washington, then needed overtime to beat the Hornets on Friday. Against New York, the Pistons nearly blew a 21-point, second-half lead before holding on. Chris Wilcox had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Detroit. David Lee narrowly missed a triple-double for the Knicks, finishing with 26 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists. Danilo Gallinari added 27 points for New York. The Pistons used a 16-2 second-quarter run to take a 51-37 lead at the half. Stuckey had 15 in the half after scoring eight in Friday’s overtime period. Lee and Gallinari combined for 29 points for New York, but the rest of the Knicks hit just four of 22 shots.

The Pistons moved their advantage to as many as 21 in the third quarter, and still held a 77-60 lead going into the fourth. Detroit, though, started to struggle in the fourth after the previous night’s overtime. The Pistons missed seven straight shots to allow the Knicks within 84-77 with five minutes left. Gallinari’s jumper made it a 90-87 game before Villanueva’s miss gave the Knicks a chance to tie. Nate Robinson missed, and the officials used instant replay to rule that the rebound went out of bounds off the Knicks. Detroit then clinched the game from the line.

NOTES: For the second straight night, the Pistons played without Tayshaun Prince (knee), Ben Gordon (groin) and Will Bynum (ankle). ... Ben Wallace slowed Lee down on a third-quarter possession, blocking two of his shots in two seconds. ... Lee’s nine assists matched a career high.

Caron Butler scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures for the Wizards, who on the previous day had their biggest star plead guilty to a felony gun charge and on the previous evening had lost a double-overtime game at Chicago.

Saunders improved his coaching record to 600-422, needing five tries to reach his latest milestone after a four-game losing streak. Antawn Jamison scored 14 points, Earl Boykins had 13, Nick Young added 12, and Brendan Haywood had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Wizards.

Kevin Martin scored 23 points on 6-for-17 shooting, and Tyreke Evans scored 21 for the Kings, who have lost three straight and eight of nine. Martin was playing his second game after missing 32 with a wrist injury, having scored 19 points in Friday night's loss at Philadelphia.

Winning their fourth straight game and extending their team record to seven consecutive home wins, the Bobcats (19-19) were never threatened in a record-setting night that saw them reach .500 at the latest point in team history.

Amare Stoudemire also reached 10,000 points, finishing with 19 for Phoenix, which has dropped 10 of its past 11 road games.
