If Jennings dumb a** actually said that all you can do is laugh. Irony.

Meanwhile, this will be the first real stretch of drummond and monroe starting together as a proper 4/5 combo other than the end of dres rookie year. Very excited for that.

So we know how Mitchell plays with summer league players? Mitchell's in his second year, we have over a million invested in him. When is the right time to see how he can do? He hasn't played meaningful rotation minutes yet, and we're 5-22. Now is the time.

Mitchell sucks. His game is just not suited to play at this level. There is nothing other than being able to jump really really high that he excels at, and a player like that has very limited upside. The only way he can be even a rotation player is if he can be one of those guys who just consistently plays harder and tougher than anyone else, and everything we have seen from him says he will never be that guy.
Even in the d league hes only at 8ppg, 7rpg, and 0.8 bpg in 25 minutes. If theres still no hope in a month or two, then go ahead, give him minutes, but with the way the east is right now, it doesnt take much to be competitive again.

A little note for those of you hating the use of the stretch provision... In the next two years it significantly helps us, by cutting down his 13mil contract to 5.4. After those two years, when it does sit there for nothing, the cap is projected to explode.. Relatively deflating the impact of that amount.
Considering the non existent trade market for him without giving up a pick, you've got to be happy with this move.

Jennings doesn't make the most money and he isn't claiming to be the big dog.

Could perhaps be the smartest thing he has ever said, but there isn't a lot of competition. :D

Yeah I have no idea why there's a clamoring for this guy to play. He can't play.

I think this is the 'bottoming out' year lol. you don't want to bottom out too long, you'll end up like the sixers.

we have a ton of financial flexibility moving forward, we have a few young players that have potential in Drummond, KCP and Dinwiddie (I have faith in the mayor!) and we have a coach who knows what he is doing. having what will likely be a high pick this year is just icing on the cake.

We'll see. I don't think the talent you mentioned plus one pick is the cornerstone for a future champion, hence, I'd accumulate for another year.

CBS sports has the "eye on basketball" podcast. They claimed a "Detroit media member" had an "in" and told them Dumars never wanted smith and tried to talk Gores out of signing him. Team fails, Gores fires Dumars as a scapegoat.

I believe none of this. Not after Ben Gordon and Charlie V. If this media member said this they're just angry that the old regime and their info is gone and that their scoops come from Twitter just like the rest of us.

I wonder how much Dumars paid this "media member" to put this out there.

Sixers trying to grab the tank commander quickly. Seriously though why are the SIxers even interested?

Idk why they are interested but wouldnt the cap hit be significantly less or completely eliminated if Sixers signed him?

even for jennings, quotes like that don't happen if they lost a good teammate who just wasn't fitting in.

* "We all know in this league and there's no hiding it, when you're making the big bucks and you're the guy, and you don't produce, fans and media look at you like what's going on?" said point guard Brandon Jennings. "And that goes for anybody in this league." *
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports ... /20761745/

* "Nobody knew about this, as far as players," forward Greg Monroe said. "Everyone walked to the locker room with the same face, the same thoughts like we didn't know that was about to happen. It's definitely something that's surprising to everyone."
Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings agreed with Monroe, calling the news "very surprising."

"In this league you never know what's going to happen so you're always looking over your shoulder at times," Jennings said.

Jennings didn't think the adjustment affected the mood of the team in practice but it's still early. Van Gundy still plans to sit down with each player individually to get their thoughts.

Smith caught a lot of flack from Detroit fans during his short stint but contrary to popular belief his teammates didn't find it hard to play alongside him. Playing out of position most of last year, as a small forward, certainly didn't help his case.

"He was cool, real laid back," Jennings said. "He was always talking to guys, trying to encourage guys and things like that.

"We all know in this league when you're making the big bucks on the team and you're that guy, fans and the media and everybody are kind of looking like 'What's going on?' and that goes for anybody in this league." *

Only if they claimed him on waivers. They're in a strong position if they actually wanted him. They have the most money to offer, and could sell him on the fact that he could be a go to guy in Philly. So for them, if they believe Smith can be wooed with a big price tag, (at a value less than his current contract) they would have no purpose in putting in a waiver claim. Or if they want him bad enough, and are willing to pay the current price, they are the only team capable of claiming him. If I were them, and seriously wanted him, I would still pass on the claim.

I do wish we had just bitten the bullet and not used the stretch provision. We're going to be at a disadvantage with salary cap for years to come. It stings. There's no getting around that.

Go to Goggle Calendar now and write a message to be e-mailed to you 5 years from now saying "WTF? We're STILL paying Josh Smith?" Trust me....The future you will appreciate the reminder.

Dumbest analysis of the move in history.

You know, it is possible to disagree with someone without being a complete prick about it.

It certainly would have been rough the next couple years had we not used the stretch provision and I don't blame anyone who feels the stretch provision is best. Whether we use the stretch or not, is not even that big of an issue in the long run. We'll feel the sting of his contract either way. I was just marveling at how far into the future we'll be paying for it. If you want to see a proper example of how to civilly disagree with someone, feel free to take a look at Whitehops' response to me.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.
