Risky? Not much. What are we out? Draft picks we don’t use well and money we would spend on less talented players? For a chance to hit the lottery 3-5 years down the road? I don’t see much risk at all honestly.

If you are going to assume total incompetence on all matters then none of any of this matters.

Seriously. $47 million in his age 34 season? I thought John Wall had the worst contract in the league..

We finally start to get near the point at which we will start to get payroll flexibility; maybe even develop some young guys; and people want to throw it all away for an aging core that has had relatively little success where it matters.
I mean, if all you want is a 2nd round playoff exit then why even bother?

Re: Trade for Westbrook?
I just dont get the "rebuild" talk whatsoever.
It isnt like the team may end up with some has been, or marginal talent that may not move the needle here.
It's an MVP player that will be paired with 2 other all stars and all nba players!
Mortgaging the future? What future? The 15th pick? WTF?
If you want a rebuild you ship it ALL out for picks, but this half assed "keep this guy, trade this guy...
Nope, that's not a rebuild, that is the exact definition of treadmill. Taking a shot with westbrook is not a treadmill move at all. Its combining a ton of talent and hoping it works! Not to mention some high quality pieces on the bench, and the distinct possibility of making even another move if enough assets are left over!
How many times does an MVP player, still in their prime become available, AND at a position the team clearly needs an upgrade at? Would I like to give up the moon? No, but keeping this team intact, and making marginal moves will accomplish absolutely nothing. This move at least gives the team a shot at greatness.
Me watching, let alone going to games next year is contingent on them doing something to move the needle. Thus far, nothing has been done to garner any monetary support, or viewing support. Just more of the same. This would fire up everyone.
Make bold moves, or blow it up. No more of this incremental, or sideways shuffle horsecrap.

We’ve built two great teams in 30 years. No one involved with those teams is currently associated with this organization. This current regime has proved only that they lack a plan. If they can somehow manage to trade for a top ten talent, that adds entertainment value to the team. Outside of that, we have nothing.
Yet somehow, fans want more of nothing. More money we can’t spent and picks we won’t develop. The more “nothing” we have the better. I don’t get it at all.

Blake can leave in two years or we may even trade him next year who knows the options will be open. Once we commit to this huge contract and trade future picks any chance is dead for that much longer.
The Thunder trading away PG13 and Westbrook will make the finals before we do adding Westbrook.

No what we need to do at some point is commit to a rebuild. We see the thunder who just had Adams/PG13/Westbrook not win a playoff series for 2 seasons so they're blowing it up which is what they should do. Some pistons fans and Gores want to replicate them.

I hope so. Hoping to hear Westbrook to Miami so the Pistons can avoid this potential disaster.
First post btw. Long time Pistons fan (since the late 80s), first time poster. I'm on a few other Pistons message boards that aren't really that active so found this place which seems to be the most active Pistons board so here I am and looking to have some good conversations with you folks.

Exactly. So many of these proposals end with "Just sign this guy now because he's really good, get him no matter what and the team will be entertaining, no sense rebuilding because it's not possible due the Gores and management being stupid."
In grand scheme none of this matters period because we're not consultants to the Pistons' ownership/management. But as I've stated before, it would be nice if people would just own their proposals as "This is what I want" rather than trying to mask them as being the best strategy under the guise that the ownership/management is now and always will be incompetent.
If you want to take a shot at flawed superstar thinking it gives the team a chance at advancing past the first round of the playoffs while also knowing the team is f***ed for the next 3-5 years if it doesn't work out, JUST SAY IT. It's at least respectable because it's honest. But stop trying to argue that it's the best chance at a championship because some of us are just not going to be convinced. It's one thing to be a 45-50 win team, give up a lot to get a superstar, and win a championship knowing that if that superstar doesn't stay with the team you're pretty much screwed for a few years...Toronto, anyone? But the Pistons are nowhere near that level. They could keep Drummond and Blake AND get Westbrook and you'll still never convince me that they could outlast any of the top teams in the NBA in a seven game playoff series. Some people seem to forget that once you get past the the Pistons' top 3-4 players, the rest of the team absolutely sucks compared to championship-level teams.

Welcome. I also want no part of Westbrook. Not that I have any problem with him, per se. I just don't think he'd get the Pistons a championship.

Exactly pistons are mediocre n westbrook will still play at a high level when 34. His motor is great. We got blake n people seemed to like it but not westbrook. Same thing. Westbrook blake drummond a little something something. Maybe lure people in to play with us. R we gonna compete with the 2 LA teams Jersey Philly without him... No way at all.Neptune wrote:buzzkilloton wrote:We make this trade we can kiss our shot at a title this decade good bye.

Thanks for the welcome.
That's exactly the thing. They'd be making a trade like this to be relevant for a few years and put some fans in that usually half empty LCA. The upside of this group is a 2nd round knockout at best at best so what's the point? It would be exciting basketball at times and would get the city invested in the team for the first time in over a decade but it's not even close to a championship roster and that's the whole point, to win championships one day.
I've been one of those people who has been hoping for them to blow it up for a couple of years now but the Griffin trade ruined that dream for me and now they're bringing in guys like Rose and Morris hoping to make a run at a 6-7 seed at best. I don't hate those deals because they are short term but bringing in Westbrook who has 4 years left on his deal likely dealing important futures to get him sort of throws them into perpetual mediocrity, the SVG dream. No thanks.
Gores needs to let Stefanski do this thing and you just know that Gores has fingerprints all over this Westbrook chase.
