I think some teams are making a mistake by not grabbing Bojan. They probably look at we paid for him and expect the same but that's not happening.

Leaks to the press that we aren’t looking to move him are one thing.

If Bojan himself has been told he isn’t being moved that’s pretty convincing.

I'll say this;

I am highly annoyed that it appears Weaver is keeping Bojan. Maybe the offers are bad. All I know, is that this team better be good next season, and not more of this crap.

Hopefully we get lucky with this draft and go from there. Future is really held up in Cade at the moment.

I’m not so sure that this means we’re keeping Bojan. The crazy offers don’t happen until the last day or two.

I am running under the assumption that the draft doesn't matter. It is rare a rookie has a huge impact on a teams winning, we all know that.

For this team to "compete" next year, Cade is going to have to be a monster straight out of the gates. If Bojan is being kept, that means any trade is going to be small, and have no real impact on the team next year.

I guess what I'm saying, is barring some major free agent signing to add some kind of defense to this trainwreck, I don't see how, in any path going forward, this team "competes" next season.

Keeping Bojan signals he is going to start Bojan.

Cade
Ivey
Bojan
Stewart
Duren

I'm also running under the assumption that Casey has dirt on Weaver, because apparently, its impossible to get fired, so there's that.

Hearing this news has really dampened my expectations for next season. I know there is a ton of time between now and October, but we've become accustomed to being excited for 10 games, then start looking forward to the next lottery, draft, and then disappointment.

Hopefully something changes, and I'm just waiting for the sky to fall, but this team really looks like another in a long line of crap Piston teams, that looks good on paper, but never delivers the goods.

Ok, here's Bojan's full quote and the source link:

“Having conversations with the club, Troy (Weaver), and the owners, they assured me that we’re going to be great next year,” Bogdanovic told HoopsHype. “We have a lot of cap space to sign great players. We’re going to have a high pick again, so that’s going to help us a lot. We have a great young group of guys. When Cade (Cunningham) went down, that kind of hurt us big time. We were thinking that maybe we’d be fighting for the play-in tournament, but when he went down, he was our main guy. All of our offensive strategies were connected to him. When he went down, our season, we’ve had a lot of ups and downs without him.”

https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-rumors-myles-turner-bojan-bogdanovic-malik-beasley-jarred-vanderbilt-bones-hyland/

None of what he said should surprise anyone. I've been saying it since they traded for him. Weaver feels pressure to start winning next season. And he should.

One thing I'm encouraged by is that while Bojan mentions Weaver by name, he doesn't mention Casey.

I'd be glad to keep Bojan. We know what we're going to get from him.

After the trade deadline they can start putting Bojan in street clothes to rest.

This whole season is a wash with the main hope that Ivey can become a piece. What he looks like is hard to say. He needs to shoot much better and no turn the ball over running full tilt down the court into a defender for a bad shot.

The bottom line is we wouldn't have extended him if we weren't prepared to keep him.

Is it possible someone swoops in with a godfather type offer next week? I mean, I guess. But right now I think it's fair to operate under the assumption Bojan remains a Piston, at least until the offseason.

Have you seen much of McConnell? There's no universe he gets traded for a fake 2nd rounder!

He's a exceptional role player and has been for a long while now.

EDIT: I was dead wrong about McConell. I just double-checked something. DEAD wrong.

That's the first time I've seen 'exceptional' used to describe McConnell in any context. If Indy wanted to move him with no salary back I don't think it would be easy.

That said, another guard and big man who can't shoot are the last things we need.
McConnell is a exceptional role player. He excels in his role, doesn't complain and is always ready for whatever.

Guys like him are always underrated so I'm not surprised some here have no clue how important guys like him actually are

yeah it may be my cynical side but i don't think it means much telling him they're keeping him, it's more that this is the plan right now. i remember masai ujiri promised demar derozan he wasn't getting traded and then a month later was traded for kawhi leonard.

that said i've maintained all along that i'd be happy keeping bojan. he's a great all-around offensive player and the team is at the point where they just need talent, no matter how old/young they are.

Weaver did a nice job moving Grant nearer the draft. Maybe he'll do the same with Bogs.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
