Forward Brian Scalabrine, sent home with a sprained ankle following Monday night’s exhibition game in New York, will be re-evaluated today.

“I haven’t heard - all we know is that it just swelled up,” Rivers said. “We’ll find out. If it was the regular season, then we would have brought him with us (for Tuesday’s game against the Cavaliers in Columbus, Ohio).” . . .

As expected, the Celtics waived forward Michael Sweetney. Signed as a free agent in the offseason, the former lottery pick averaged 3.6 points and 1.2 rebounds in 6.4 minutes during the preseason. The C’s roster now stands at 15.

Allen Iverson not likely to play against Pistons in opener
Memphis Grizzlies guard Allen Iverson says he feels no pain in his left hamstring, but added it's a "longshot" he'll play in Wednesday's season opener against Detroit.

Iverson joined the Grizzlies in Charlotte on Thursday and worked out before Friday's exhibition game. Iverson says he can run and cut without difficulty, but he's not been cleared to play by the training staff because of fears he may re-injure the leg.

Iverson, 34, has been out since he tore his hamstring in a scrimmage Oct. 4. Iverson played in 54 games for the Pistons last season. Wednesday is the season opener for Memphis and Detroit (8 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit).
