Not a smith defense, but it's not really fair to criticize the rockets losing to the Spurs in SanAn and then a 1 point loss to 22 and 8 wizards team. There are lots of legitimate reasons to rip on smith, but that really isn't one.

Honestly, I mean this kindly, but this post exemplifies a pejorative statement. Is it so bad that people would hope that Josh Smith would figure it out at some point? Few deny that his history is a player of remarkable physical talent. "If only" is a phrase heard throughout his career. Is this just a "I'm right and you're wrong" crowing? Why phrase it in a way seeming intended to insult?

No doubt, Smith detractors must be feeling pretty justified at the moment. For two games worth at least, all signs (including the use of the stretch waiver) are that he was a very toxic presence on the team. Still, be kind, it costs nothing and makes life easier for everyone. Anyone who claims to never been on the wrong side of an issue is either very young and very smart, or just a liar.

2 games? How about a season and a quarter here? Hell, how about 10 years? This has nothing to do with JUST the last 2 games. Do you realize how many times people defended Smith last season by saying, "well if Smith doesn't shoot the 3 who else do we have to shoot 3's" as if there was some quota of 3pa that had to be taken. As if passing up a 3 for a 2 dribble pull up wouldn't suffice. Smith could get the ball with 4 seconds on shot clock, heave it and people would excuse him saying "well the shot clock was running down" when 4 seconds is an eternity to get a better shot. How about the playing out of position excuse from last year that quickly got erased when he played even worse this year at his natural position.

I've always said Smith has basketball talent. But the problem is he's not a good basketball player. So this is not an "I told you so" in hindsight when the evidence of his bummery was right in front of all of our face. If you just felt like he could put it all together "only IF...", then I'm not knocking you. It's the people with the ridiculous excuses for the bum that I'm referring to.

Unless you actually watched the games. Their offense made me cringe more often than not. And the "one point loss" was only because of a last second meaningless 3.

Bingo. What many of us said here as soon as Joe D. got Josh. I was one of the people who absolutely hated that move and said right off the bat there is no way anyone should expect that Josh was going to play any differently than he had previously in his career, i.e. he was going to continue to shoot 3's that he can't hit. And that's exactly what happened. As he had for years, Josh showed no propensity whatsoever to change his game in any way.

It's not an "I told you so" or "I'm right" situation. It's a "Next time, open your eyes" situation. It wasn't rocket science; those of us who predicted it wouldn't work out well didn't "get lucky." All the indications were there to make the prediction a no-brainer.

With meltdown happening in Sacto right now, I wonder if we could have traded Smith there right about now for Thompson/Williams with Vivek desperate to do something/anything to smooth things over with the lockerroom.

Somebody is going to rip Sacto off - we just don't have any trade chips to be the ones to do it.

Yes, I get all this about how many of us had great trepidation from the beginning about where the Smith signing would end up. I wasn't a fan of it. I forget who reporting having the friend from Atlanta who said JS "would make you hate basketball." I think he meant he'll make you hate watching basketball when he plays for your team.

The only point I was trying to make is to have a generous heart with fellow Piston fans who are in the wrong. We all are sometimes. I get being harsh with trolls, but fellow Pistons fans are a different matter in my mind. Part of having a fan board is to share differing opinions and have discussion. I'm not the reverend hoophabit, and have no obligations regarding the spiritual well-being of the board. I'm just saying it's good policy to be gracious, especially among friends.

Well said, friend. I have had many discussions on this forum over the years, been mostly lurking the past couple months. I've seen a lot of venom spewed amongst fellow Piston fans. It's nice to see you extend an olive leaf for the rest of the board to grasp a hold of. Hopefully people take your post to heart.

That was me lol

Good post otherwise, I was one of the very few who said Josh was a colossal failure from day 1 but I get that people want to believe a guy can change. The bottom line is, that loser is gone & we are back headed in the right direction. Thats all that matters to me now.

I really wouldn't expect to see Smith getting a larger offer this summer than a vet's minimum.

^Rockets should bench that scrub. He's clearly not a starter anymore and nor should he.

He's lazy and drifts to the 3 pt line even when he's on the Rockets with premier outside threats like Harden and Ariza. What he should be doing is cutting and hustling for boards, but he doesn't even do that.

People defended this guy.

Smith has been moved to the bench. Someone mentioned that Smith would start performing better in the role of a bench player for a contending team- he is now in that role but its doubtful he looks any better but we shall see.

I hate to keep talking about this dude, but backup PF for limited minutes/limited usage is the perfect role for Smith. He has to be forced into this role because he is just too dumb to change i think but if the Rockets coach will continue to do this he might not be a net negative on the court. Still hope he signs a big fat contract in the summer somewhere, if he totally fails this won't happen.
I am just glad he is off the team, i hated watching Pistons basketball with this dude.
