Weaver fleeced Houston! Great trade!

Now just gotta pray we don't trade up and instead use 7 & 16 on a couple of kids that are driven

Or use 16 with Kennard to move up or 16 with Snell for a move up and a meh contract

The Pistons take on Ariza's contract. He's due $12.8 million this season, but only $1.8 million is guaranteed, so the Pistons can waive him without crushing their cap space.

Before the deal, the Pistons were projected to enter free agency with around $30 million in cap space. The free agency negotiation period begins Friday at 6 p.m.

Ariza, 35, has been a mainstay "3-and-D" player, winning two championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009.

I'd rather flip Snell or Ariza or Luke for another pick

People have crapped on this Draft for ages but there's loads of potential available.

Yeah, I think that was pretty much guaranteed. Whether by trade or being waived Ariza won't waste one of the last years of his career on a rebuilding project.

I've had a taste of a real general manager, now I want more.

More! Trade everyone for picks! Glorious potential!

Damn I’d hate to be a Bucks fan right now. With that trade falling through, that could legit cost them Giannis.

Who would have thought I’d rather be us tonight. That’s terrible for them. Looks really bad and I’m sure Giannis is like “**** this ****”..

I just read as well that the Pistons now have the NBA record for longest streak without a playoff win so my sports depression was at an all time high.

This trade really helps. Two picks 7 and 16. That is a great start. Hopefully he can add another one before the draft starts!

Apparently Bogdanovich never actually agreed to a contract for the sign and trade.

Which seems simply astonishing, considering how far it seemed to get that is was a done deal.

Kind of seems like Bogdan got cold feet, and wanted to see what kind of contract offers he can get on the open market.

Something about Ariza's deal needing to be guaranteed to make the Covington trade with Portland work. Now it becomes a three way for salary gimmicking purposes and Portland only needs 7M guaranteed to make the three way trade legal. So Ariza comes here for a 7M cap hit and is bought out receiving near all of it to become a UFA and make more than 7M to a contender. Detroit uses the 4.6M they got from Houston towards this buyout. So basically bought the #16 for $2.4M and a future >16 FRP (or >10 OA 7 yrs from now).
Weaver = Hinkie
VW to Portland

The $4.6 mil from Houston doesn't lower the cap hit though right?

Monetarily I realize that the cost in dollars in $2.4, but the actual cap hit is more important to the basketball operations department/us as fans.

No. We donated 7 million in raw cap space to swap a pick now for a future pick, that likely will be better than the one we're getting, but a few years in the future. We got robbed, annd people can't see it.

Return to Detroit Pistons
