This is the type of move you just keep making over and over. Most of the time it doesn't amount to anything, but once in a while you get lucky.

2k beast, NBA bust. But worth a shot for practically nothing.

From Denver Post:

When he was leapfrogged in the rotation by Vlatko Cancar (prior to his foot fracture) and Zeke Nnaji, it was apparent the coaching staff saw more potential in those forwards than Bol.

and...

It was never clear whether he was a mismatch at small forward or power forward, and whether he was able to handle the defensive responsibilities that came with those positions. The other problem was his inconsistent effort.

Well, it will be interesting to see those 10 to 20 minutes a game...

You get his bird rights and a chance to sign him for cheap for 2-3 years if you want to after this season. The risk is fine. That 2nd rounder is becoming hard to make the roster and likely a 2 way contract at best for us. He'll for sure bring a little bit of excitement to the arena.

Meh, it's worth a flier for the nothing price given up but he seems like another Thon Maker to me.

Rodney McGruder either sits on the bench of a potential playoff team or gets waived and possibly picked up by another. He's the clear winner of the trade, as he doesn't have to sit through the rest of this ugly season. Even if he ends sitting home watching Netflix, he's getting paid.

I think he played pretty well with the minutes he was given. He might still get another chance somewhere, between protocols and injuries.

I hope this isn't our last transaction. Bol Bol doesn't look like he's about to blossom into a useful rotation player.

The Cavs just waived Tacko Fall.

Who’s down to have Garza, Bol Bol and Fall as a three headed monster?

The team was becoming hard to even watch at times lately. I'll take any type of shake up especially swapping a 30 year old McGruder for a 22 year old Bol Bol.

Also, a nice reclamation project on Bol Bol

I'm wondering how much playtime Bol is actually going to get. If Weaver really wants to see, he may have to move Lyles.

I don't see how Bol sees the floor unless it's mandated by the FO.

Lyles is still relatively young and looking like a legit decent backup big and locked up for just $2.5 million next year. If anything we just get bigger in the 2nd unit with Bol & Lyles playing together a bit. If we're moving anyone its most likely Grant and or Kelly O to a team wanting to make a run in these playoffs. Hopefully Olynyk comes back soon to showcase what he's got post injury.

Players we should look to trade this season:

Everyone but Cade and Bey.

Other players I’d rather not deal unless someone blows us away with an offer: Stewart

Everyone else should be available. Outside of them, playoff teams should have a good amount of interest in:

Grant
Lyles
Diallo
Olynyk
Josh Jackson
CoJo

Olynyk is a player a lot of us Piston fans are sleeping on. He is going to be almost as hot of a commodity as Grant, in the right circumstance, whereas Grant could fit on practically any team.

I really hope both are moved, as they could both fetch pretty good hauls.

Think we all overestimate the value of players.

If anyone proposed McGruder for Bol Bol on this site they'd have been ridiculed something fierce!

Grant, nor KO will bring back a haul - but we might be able to get a young prospect under team control.

Any playoff contender could look to make a push and those 2 might fetch something decent BUT I doubt either will land us what we consider to be a haul

This is the exact type of move we should have been making for years. Trade for young high upside guys even though they may have some warts and see what happens. I’m not saying Bols going to come out and be a star by any means but as someone else said, you do these moves and every once in a while you get lucky.

if Casey couldn't be bothered to develop and play Sekou I highly doubt he's going to give much time to Bol. I wish him well. He's very talented and SHOULD get major run to give him a proper and fair evaluation since you're tanking but will he?

Doubtful given what I've read about Bol Bol's commitment or lack thereof to the game.

Sekou had similar issues - lots of young guys do tbh

If the coaching staff and organisation in general can't help these young kids adjust to the NBA life and help them understand where they need to be do we put all the blame on the kids or is there enough to go around?

Beyond the superficial how much do these 2 guys have in common?

I don't think it's a comparison made just because they're both tall African players, at least not from my pov. Both are tall, skinny guys with some draft pedigree can hit the three, can block some shots and are lacking severely in every other area. It's an apt comparison.

With that said, it's virtually a no risk move to bank on upside so why the hell not. I just have zero expectations of him.

I agree with the idea of people overvaluing their teams players. But if you’re saying that because of this trade, I think that’s an odd take. If anyone proposed McGruder for Bol prior to it happening, you would have just got a lot of meh responses
