If there were Pistons fans keen on Okafor then they should also have their ears pick up for Sullinger. Two players cut from the same cloth.

Kind of but not really? Sullinger isn't very good at the rim despite his... heft and supposed skill. He can shoot it a bit but currently not well with range outside. Defensively there isn't much Jared can do besides body up guys in the post, and that's without providing much defense at the rim.

At least Okafor looks like he's well on his way to being dominate in the post offensively. I don't think they're similar players outside of neither giving a team the kind of defense you want from bigs these days.

Meyers Leonard just got the same deal as Jon Leuer. Leonard was #1 choice going into FA. I think he's got more athleticism than Leuer but he's pretty slow. Once again, in SVG I trust.

Yeah, a Myers Leonard type at C and an Andrew Nicholson type at PF was a hope of mine for a while. Not sure if that's better, but we definitely could have done worse.

We would have had to pay Myers Leonard more and its debatable that Leonard is even better than Leuer.

Yeah, likely a lot more if Portland was willing to give Leonard $41 million over 4 years outright. Myers didn't have a huge role with the Trail Blazers despite their underwhelming roster of bigs so I'm kind of surprised they actually paid him. It will be interesting to see what happens with Harkless now. They should still match, but some teams still have a bunch of cap space left and could go after him with a big offer. Philadelphia would be my guess.

In today's nba, only thing that matters is shooting apparently.

I like the kid, but holy hell. Todd would probably pay him 4/200.

Anyone seeing that Jokic thread in the GB? Those Denver fans are relentless. I mean I love Jokic but he's not better than Towns!

Jarrett Jack, Hawks Agree To One-Year Deal For Vet's Minimum
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Good for Atlanta. Jack probably accepted the minimum from them since he has no competition for the backup point guard role, and Schroder is far from guaranteed to succeed as the starter too.

Leonard can't put the ball on the floor. Leuer can , and actually is a highly underrated part of his game.

Looks like Portland has decided to save the Nets from themselves.

Allen Crabbe's 75 Million dollar offer gets MATCHED. So yeah, KCP will cost a pretty penny. Not one but TWO teams were willing to pay Allen Crabbe that kind of money.

Or more. We don't know what other offers he got. That said, I think it's a huge overpay.

Okay. Both Crabbe and KCP are about 14/4/2 players per 36 minutes. The difference is Crabbe's superior EFG% and TS%. I have no idea about his defensive capabilities, I just heard who he was this offseason.
That's insane. I don't think that Crabbe, or any 2016 FA signings, are indicative of true market value, because there's that initial overpay bump. If other contracts were proportioned upwards, or if the cap was smoothly raised, I doubt Crabbe gets 75 million. Crabbe would have been signed for an average of 14 mill using 2015-2016 dollars, and that seems way too high for a bench player that barely broke double digits in scoring and provided little else.

If I were a GM I would have my own system for valuating players and use that in my discussions with them. I have to believe that this won't completely destroy any hope of signing KCP to a fair and reasonable contract.

Crab was pretty valuable for them...

Leonard was injured often

The money given to them is more "potential" than anything they've actually accomplished thus far.

If Fournier can get $85 million it doesn't surprise me that at least two teams were willing to give Crabbe $75 million (plus a good amount in incentives). They're not dissimilar players.

Fournier is a much better player than Crabbe. Both aren't much on defense (Fournier probably a little better), but Forunier actually can put the ball on the floor and pass a little as well. Crabbe is pretty much a catch and shoot guy.
