Claxton’s certainly a better rim protector and overall defender than Duren, but he’s worse at almost everything else, and some of that stuff is pretty important to the way we play. He’s a bad FT shooter, a good rebounder (but Duren is great), and an inferior passer. I do think he’d be fine filling Duren’s role as a lob finisher, but he’s much thinner than JD and doesn’t make space for himself in the same way.

Duren has a cheap year left. Claxton has 3/69.4 on a declining deal. Duren will probably get similar money after next year.

Can’t trade Tobias to match salary and then make Stew play PF. It’s just wasting Stewart’s best skill, interior defense. So I’m not sure how the money works. Claxton makes 25.3 next year, Duren+Tek is only 14.7. Nobody wants to take a Timmy S&T of any value.

Don’t see it working, particularly because we’re sacrificing a cheap Duren year. But I understand the skill shift might be useful overall.

I’m only doing this if it’s a bigger package with one of the other Cams involved.

Claxton only slightly better overall than Duren (way better on D), I think Duren could still pan out to be the better player. We gotta keep Stew at center, the Monty PF experiment made him regress.

Cavs are trying to save money so they can resign their own FA without going into the 2nd apron.

This is where we decide whether or not Okoro for Font or Okoro for Sasser makes any sense for us. Okoro would be on the books for $11 million this year and $11.8 million next year. He averaged only about 10 MPG in the playoffs he would be a pretty clear cut for them financially. He would pretty much just take some of THJs minutes and perhaps also some of Font's minutes.

Okoro is 24 and Font is 29... Font does seem to get along well with our young core but I think he clearly was the weakest link (also Holland) in our 10 man rotation last season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers want to re-sign Ty Jerome this offseason. The Cavaliers would also like to retain Sam Merrill, if possible. The challenge for Cleveland is that their payroll is already extremely high without either free agent guard in the fold.

The Cavs project to open the offseason approximately $31 million over the luxury tax line. Cleveland also projects to be approximately $14 million over the second apron before re-signing any free agents and filling out their roster.

Being that far over the second apron has the Cavaliers looking for trade options to save money. They've had a hard time finding a team willing to take on Isaac Okoro's $22.8 million in remaining salary through the 2026-27 season. Rival teams have told Cleveland that they would need to add in assets to get them to take on Okoro's contract.

The Cavs have also explored trading forward Dean Wade, in an attempt to clear salary to re-sign Jerome or Merrill. Cleveland has sufficient free agent rights to re-sign the veteran guards, but is concerned about pushing the payroll even further over the second apron.

Okoro can’t shoot, and is way too redundant with Ausar and Holland. Wade or Merrill would make sense though.

39.1% from deep the previous year, and 37.1% from deep this year but it a lot of open catch and shoot.

Okoro can shoot in the way that Stew can shoot. Technically, yes, but needs to be very open and comfortable.

Exactly.

Another fear is that JB has a soft spot for Okoro and plays him too much. No reason for him to be stealing minutes from our young guys.

Not to keep regurgitating the wiretap today, but Phoenix looking to deal Grayson Allen and Royce Oneal to clear some space.

Sign me up for both. Grayson would be great taking the THJ minutes, and Royce is not too shabby as a swiss army knife vet.

No, this actually is not where they decide that. That was already decided when they chose not to sign him last year when it didn't take giving up anybody to acquire him.

I can't believe anyone who watched this team in the last two seasons would seriously suggest any possible rotations that place Isaiah Stewart at the 4.

Grayson Allen makes $16,875,000 this year and then $18 and $19 million the following two seasons. He's a Beasley level 3 point shooter at 43% from deep but he is almost certainly a little bit overpaid for what he provides in his overall game.

Front + #37 for Allen + #29? Allen is a little bit shorter and more of a SG than a SF IMO whereas Font has played a bit of PF for us Allen doesn't have that type of size.

Royce O'neal makes just $10.125 million and he's a bit bigger and stronger as well as a better defender. I think overall he's more of a better fit.

Font makes $8.3 million but only for one more year instead of three.... Not sure Cleveland would give up its late first in a Font for O'neal swap since it barely saves them any money this season.

I actually think a Lopez - Stew - Font - Beasley - Schroeder 2nd unit would be great. I think Stew and Duren weren't a great bit but there are for sure some taller floor stretches with good mobility who could play well next to Stew.

I've repeatedly made similar comments about not understanding some of the posts here recently. Just not a lot of time spent thinking about what is being typed before hitting the submit button.

Per Hoopshype Rumors, after the Bane Orlando trade:

The renegotiation and extension possibility for Jaren Jackson Jr. is impacted by this trade. It decreased the Grizzlies cap space from $6.9 million to $4.5 million, lowering the overall value of a renegotiation. They could create more through trades, but certainly a situation worth monitoring

If Bane took 2 rotation players + 4 firsts and a swap, hard to imagine that we have what it takes to get Jaren…

Banes traded by Memphis. Knee jerk reaction - is this a total rebuild? Will JJJ be available? I think he’s eligible for an extension. I’m sure it would cost most of our draft capital.

Seems like odd move for them if they actually believe in Edey…I’d consider it but that’s tough…

I somehow forgot about Edey and was looking more of what we could give up. Maybe use a pick swap instead? Then we’d have to be pretty confident in our roster at that point since this is really an all in move.

If Stew can stay healthy, him and JJJ would be real nice together.

Maybe Grizz blowing it all up, including Edey. They might as well, and Edey may be damaged goods. Too big for his own good. Seems gimpy, but Duren has his own injury history to worry about….

The Grizzlies were never upper tier contenders and they’re still being priced out of keeping their core together.

The new CBA is harsh. We aren’t currently in any kind of crisis but we could be if Langdon isn’t smart with how dollars are spent.

I hope he’s up to the challenge.
