Re: RIP TO NJ (REAL RUMOR!!!!)
It makes sense that it would have to be consumated right after the Nets game on Monday night since they play Fri, Sat, and Mon and I'd assume league offices are closed on Sunday... So expect for it to go down Tuesday morning so that the Nets can have their new players for their 5 game homestand starting Wed the 19th. If they did the trade today they wouldn't have enough players to play tonight because they're likely sending out 7 guys in this trade.
Interesting note, we play the Nets on Friday the 21st so we shouldn't have to wait long to get a look at the new look Nets.

Getting the Nets Melo, also helps with Pistons tank efforts.
NJ has the 4th worst record in the league & the Pistons have the 6th so when Nets start surging with Melo, Pistons put themsleves in better position for a pick

If NJ has to take on Harrington, its possible Humphries (expiring) might be going back to Denver. Please understand, this is merely a possibility, I have no knowledge or source saying this is the case. We could be looking at:
Billups
Rip
Melo
Harrington
Lopez

"IF" NJ is taking on Harrington it must be a 2nd deal Harrington for Sasha so the numbers work.

IF Melo signs the extension, yes. Especially if under the new CBA, there is still a MLE.

They will have the space to do some work in the offseason that NYK wouldn't have.

Nope. They won't have a bench and they will have a MLE starter PF. they won't have any asset to upgrade anything and Rip + Chauncey are not getting any younger.

Re: RIP TO NJ (REAL RUMOR!!!!)
I think they could end up being the 4th best team in the east this season, behind Miami, Boston, and Orlando...
But they probably won't have the 4th best record because they're in such a hole right now.
A motivated Rip, Billups, and Melo is a good trio... and Lopez is a very solid young big. Hump has also been playing well for them at PF so I'm pretty sure I'd take that starting 5 over Chicago or Atlanta.
Going from terrible to 4th best team in the east isn't bad... and they'll have a chance to add more to Melo once Billups expires and they have Rip's expiring deal to move.
Adding a player like Melo is definitely better than remaining a lottery team.

Serious contenders? No. I think Melo can carry a pretty crappy squad to the playoffs, but they won't challenge any of the top teams. Rip and Chauncey aren't the defender's they used to be, and Lopez isn't playing like the All-Star everyone thought he'd become. Really, unless they can actually swing Chris Paul, which might be tough with Lopez's extension looming, and Chauncey and Rip on the books for two and three more years, respectively.

Re: RIP TO NJ (REAL RUMOR!!!!)
Seems to me like the plan is to move up into that second tier w/ Atlanta and New York (and right now probably Chicago) for the next couple season, then when Billups expires they can use Hamliton's EC in a trade to land another superstar (does that coincide w/ Chris Paul?).
Count that baby and a foul!

Where did you hear this from?

Billups and CP3 contracts end the same yr. If CP3 wants to get to NJ it will be there for him.

If that is true would Rip still be complaining about his DNP and would Tay be oblivious to that reason and call Kuester a bafoon? (We know he is one but Tay was responding to Rip not playing).

Re: RIP TO NJ (REAL RUMOR!!!!)
They must have left it out....we'd have to take back some kind of salary.
