Billups, RIP, & Melo together is hilarious. It's totally what the 2004-2010 Pistons should have been.

It happened before, players have been sent home, if Rip is so bad for the team, send him home instead of trade him for crap.

U sound stupid dude. why make his trade value worse?

Read what i wrote properly. I never said i would do it, i said if people think Rip is such a cancer, marbury him instead of pay to unload him.

Indiana recently did that with TJ Ford and teams have done that before.

Do you not understand you would have to pay more to send him home because you are still paying him his 12.5 mill?

Paying more is relative. Rip's remaining guaranteed money - Petro's 3 mil/year - whatever value a potential lotto pick will have.

Treating Rip like TJ Ford if he is unwilling to cooperate with the new core would have been my choice but in Detroit it will never happen. I've never seen it happen to a major player here, and certainly it seems unlikely for one like Rip who Joe still likes personally.

This may have been creative writing by Woj but I believe it is true,
Most league executives are dubious that Anthony would believe Billups and Hamilton, ages 34 and 32, respectively, would be tantalizing. Nevertheless, Denver has shown little interest in negotiating a trade with New York, and it believes Anthony doesn’t want to risk free agency this offseason when a new labor agreement could cost him tens of millions of dollars in guaranteed money.

I seriously doubt that Melo would want to be in a worse city (particularly for him) and on a worse team unless he was completely worried about the potential money being lost, which he has not shown to be. Besides, playing on a contending team in NY where he is well liked presents it's own financial advantages, and he will likely get the deal he wants in NY by waiting anyway.

The New York Post is reporting that around 17 players/pick could be involved in the deal. Terrico White is also mentioned in the trade rumors and would be included.

I also read on Yahoo that Carmelo and his agent are pushing the Nets to surround him with veteran talent. So getting Rip and Chauncey mite make him consider signing an extension with New Jersey. not sure how accurate this is tho but Woj is reporting it.

It ain't easy coming up with deal that works for all sides... we know there would be a penalty for moving Rip
Picks from NJ to Denver stay the same... we keep our pick

I'm not fond of moving our 1st, but I would love to move Rip and getting back Petros measely contract doesn't bother me. We would also gets Murphys expiring right? While keeping Tay and his expiring? This could be a very good move for the Pistons... as long as we keep our pick.

We don't even know if there will be a salary cap in the new CBA but what i can tell you is, moving Rip for Murphy + Petro would put us ~50 million. Assuming there will be a salary cap and it will be ~58 million, if we renounce Prince and TMac we would be able to overpay for a MLE guy.

Trading Rip away is good, it's far from solve our problems.

1st step, new owner.

2nd step, new ownership set a direction.

3rd step, possibly hire a new GM and a new coaching staff.

4rd step fix the roster.

Dump Rip is far from our main priority imo and in the short term it won't make us any better. We have played crap without Rip when he was out due to injuries. He is not as big of a problem as some fans want to believe in here.

Does Rip must go? YES. Will that fix all our problems so should we dump him at all costs? NO.

I wouldn't expect anything else from you vege... seen a proposal you like yet?
Would I rather have Harris over Stuckey?... no question... the idea is to reduce the SGs (Stuckey's mentality)... get someone in that has been efficient at involving his teammates in the past.
Outlaw was the price of moving Rip... a lot worst scenarios than that have been proposed.
So yeah I'm not ashamed of this in the least.

Harris is a score first guard just like Stuckey but Stuckey is better than him.

Yes i have seen a few ideas i like :) that one is not one of them  Outlaw is a dumb one dimensional player on an absolutely terrible contract. He wouldn't see any PT in Detroit, both CV and Daye are way better than him.

NJN screwed this offseason. They spent money on Outlaw/Petro/Farmar. They could have Al Jefferson + a serviceable player instead of them. Hell if they still had caps pace Melo would be in NJ already.

Is Rip bad? Yes, but Outlaw and his contract are 10 times worse. And Stuckey is better than Harris who is also a score first guard.

I will give you one thing, at least you are not buying the "expiring/capspace" idea. Because dumping Rip wouldn't give Detroit any cap space, but your idea is bad. Rip and Prince for Harris and Murphy is something that have been discussed in trades and transaction boards before, with Prince going to Denver and Rip to NJ.

Harris is simply a better PG than Stuckey... and he is a willing distributor.
Outlaw was a finalist for 6th man of the year in Portland (nicked "Mr. 4th qtr")... he's struggled with the starting role on a new team... this does not define his future as a solid 6th man.
7Mil per for a young talented young forward is certainly more tradeable vs Rip's current deal.
I still want to see Daye get some PT at SG.

Agent Andy Miller tells Y! Sports Chauncey Billups doesn't want to be traded from his hometown Nuggets and would prefer a buyout if dealt.

Fair enough... but I'll be glad to put the RS vs DH as a PG to a vote

Devin Harris is 10x the PG and player that Rodney Stuckey is.

I'd be ok swapping Rodney for Harris, but not at the cost of taking Travis freakin Outlaw and his stupid contract.

We aren't going to unload Rip and get an expiring plus a measley $3mil per contract in return. We would have to sweeten the pot. I don't think you give up a lottery pick to basically save yourself two years of a bad contract.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Memphis is the team to deal with imo. (Randolph, Thabeet, and Mayo)

Return to Detroit Pistons
