If you think no one was upset at getting that pick for Grant, I won't argue.
It was all obvious from the jump.
Of course some people were upset with the return. Some people are upset with the return of every trade we do it seems. But Grant to Portland was a long rumored constantly discussed thing around here going back to the trade deadline and knowing it would have to be done before the draft because Portland's trade exception would only fit Grant's contract size before Grant got a raise the following season.

The Lakers have had alot of bad teams the past 10 years actually. Some completely terrible ones in there. Thats where their going to be the back half of this decade and a unprotected pick will be very valuable from them.

Re: The too early Trade deadline thread
If we can get one of the future Lakers picks with light or no protections you jump on it. Of course I dont see us holding the pick. We would use that pick later as a valuable piece in a trade for a established all star player.
Think of some of the vets we have seen traded in the recent years guys like-Leonard,Harden,CP3,Blake,PG13,Butler,D.Mitch,Gobert,and D.Murray.
Were not a free agent spot but we sure as hell can trade for any of these sort of guys when they hit the market. Whether its this offseason or next offseason were going to be coming for one of these type of players. Thats why you trade BB now so you have the ammo to get the guy when the guy is on the market. This is the point of stacking assets for the future its not all about having infinite draft picks to tank forever.

Re: The too early Trade deadline thread
Weaver is playing this perfectly. Listen to the teams but act like your holding him to valuable. Let them drive up the bidding as we approach the deadline then make a move.

"Bogdanovic’s strong play has led numerous playoff-caliber teams around the league to express interest in trading for him, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, and Atlanta Hawks, among several others, league sources told HoopsHype. Thus far, Detroit has been unwilling to engage in trade talks for the 33-year-old forward. Rival executives, however, are hopeful that stance changes closer to the deadline if Detroit continues to remain in the cellar of the East, with Cade Cunningham expected to miss the rest of the season."

You may be right. As whitehops says, the Lakers may well end up being the new Knicks. I assume Weaver has a pretty good handle on all this.

Think it was Pistonpowered had us trading Bogi for Cam Johnson, Crowder and 23 1st. I feel like that's a great deal but idk if Phoenix does it.
Flip Crodwer to a 3rd team for future picks.

Regardless of what we are sending out, I’d like us to get the young 3&D guy. Of course everyone wants that too, but that’s what we need, maybe even 2 of them. So either we do that in FA or we do it via a trade. And we might need to load up to do it - Bojan/Burks/Noel. That’s a great haul for a contender w a weak bench or average shooters.

True 3 and D wings (regardless of age) are at a premium in the league right now for sure.

Phoenix might not want to pay Cam a big money contract this summer. They matched Ayton, but Cam is also going to get paid $20+ million per year most likely. That said, that's still not a good trade for Phoenix IMO even though their championship window with CP3 is closing fast.

Re: The too early Trade deadline thread
My ultimate is landing Herb Jones, but I agree. The upcoming draft is guard heavy, so landing a young 3&D wing is becoming important, unless Weaver wants to run Cade at the SF spot.theBigLip wrote:Regardless of what we are sending out, I’d like us to get the young 3&D guy. The team right now is in a weird spot. Young talent all over the roster, but no one knows what any players true value is at the moment, or where they fit in.
It seems like if you want to nail it down, Duren, and Stewart seem like logical fits at the 5, and 4. Problem with that, is of you somehow end up with the #1 overall, VW blows that to smithereens. If you end up with the #2 pick, concensus is Scoot. If Hayes continues his trajectory, and really makes himself valuable, what the hell do you do then?
Safest move right now, is trying to get a defensive SF in trade.

Re: The too early Trade deadline thread
Can someone say our projected cap space range for after the 2023 draft, because I've seen it before around here and I have fakegming to worry about? I know Knox is a team option, Noel will not get his option picked up (but we still might wanna re-sign for half the amount), and of course the 1st overall pick and 5th overall pick don't make near the same, and officially nobody knows the exact cap for next year, and blah blah blah and here's a quarter I found behind your ear.

I still see Lakers with a pick and WB for Bojan Burks Noel Cojo as possible and I'd luv to still pry away Wiseman Kuminga Moody in a dream scenario too

Re: Trade deadline thread
If Bojan is going out, what do people think of packaging Bey and Bagley with him and going for a Homerun return of a 2way starter level FC guy and a frp, we could offer some more filler of out of rotation player and 2 rounders maybe?
None of the B,B & B's seems particularly able to step up on D so maybe move them in a fell swoop, maybe keep Burkes for a sniper.

Re: Trade deadline thread
I'm not sure I even care about the Lakers pick. Westbrook for Bojan/Bagley/Burks/CoJo. Reset the deck. Clear the vets and some future salary. Hopefully he's a bit smarter than Westbrook, but that doesn't mean Ivey can't possibly learn from the veteran former MVP. *shrug* **** it.
