Ignoring my hometown bias I just want to put it out there that this guy should be a lottery pick, and sadly (for us) will probably forge a better career than Hayes.
1. i'd argue that PG is as big a need as any we have. wright only has one year left on his deal and could be used as a trade chip before the deadline or this off season. saben lee has shown some promise and DSJ a little less so, while hayes was (by any measure/context applied) really bad before he got injured. if weaver has a PG he really likes in the draft he shouldn't hesitate to pick them for one second.
2. i love players in the 6'8/6'9 range that are both skilled enough and have a good enough feel for the game to lead the offense every time down the floor. it allows teams to not have to play a sub-6'3 PG and still maintains a quality offense. meanwhile on defense you can play an athletic SG to defend opponent PGs which makes switching across the board so much more viable defensively. it's one of the reasons cunningham is so intriguing, beyond his general talent. we could play someone like diallo beside him to defend opposing PGs and act as a secondary ball handler, and then we could have a lineup of diallo-bey-cunningham-grant-plumlee/stewart. that lineup has one player under 6'8 and they're an elite athlete at 6'5. and there's a good balance of shooting/play making/inside scoring.
thanks for the heads up because i'm definitely going to looking into giddey more during draft season.
