Re: Free Agency
OG wasn’t thrilled with the offer the Knicks had for him so he’s testing the market.
I still think him re-upping in NY is the most likely scenario but we definitely need to at least look into it.

Re: Free Agency
My main concern with OG and giving him such a big contract is his injury history. But agree, if we can get him through FA without giving up any assets it would be a win.

Re: Free Agency
OG is like Mikel Bridges with less availability, but I'd give up a lot to get Mikel, so, yeah, I'd take a shot at OG. I agree that's the player type we want next to Cade (though a bit more reliability on the catch and shoot 3 from either of them would be a bonus).

OG has averaged 30 games missed per season over the past four seasons.
I don't treasure the prospect of massively overpaying an three-and-D guy with limited creator potential who's exceedingly likely to be unavailable for a large portion of any given season.

I mean sure, you can poke holes in anyone. But show me the list of guys available who make a difference where there's absolutely nothing about them that gives you pause.
There's nobody on that list. OG the player fits perfectly. Not just for us but for most teams.

I would make offers for OG and Hartenstein. They're both returning to NY, but if we could steal either of them I'd be thrilled.

Re: Free Agency
I've started to sour on the idea of signing a non-spacing 5.

Hartenstein is the best passing big other than Jokic and he is probably the best defensive big other than Gobert.
He is a special player imo and so is OG fwIw.

I’d like him. He does everything you want, maybe not at elite levels but maybe he has another level

Why was he glued to the bench in the playoffs?
Was it matchups?

Partially. He also just wasn’t all that good when he did play.
Being a playoff performer isn’t really top of mind. For the right price I’d still be into bringing him in. He could help us short term.

Blurb about us and Monk. Sac can only offer 4 yrs $78mil
Tyus looking for north of $15mil. I'd grab him

I'm not poking holes. Availability is the first and most key factor. If a player isn't playing, he's not only providing no value but costing value in the way of occupying the space of a player who could've been more routinely available. A player who's missing a third of his games is giving up a LOT of value.
And it hasn't just been regular season games. Let's not forget that he also missed the entirety of Toronto's championship postseason and much of this past postseason for the Knicks.

I wouldn’t be able to give you a reason l. I just have box score watched for 2-3 years or so, I see him with 3’s made and some blocked shots at times. Is it impactful not sure, cause it’s just box score, but I figure we aren’t getting no big name imo, so might be able to get for not a lot of $ and hopefully he helps us go in the right direction and maybe even he gets better. I see him as realistic, not sure og and other big names are.

Re: Free Agency
Granted the Suns had a very talented roster and was more concerned with winning games than developing young player, however Monty Williams sure didn't seem like he was real interested in giving Jalen Smith minutes when they overlapped in Phoenix. Hell Phoenix outright waived him, only 1 year after being a top 10 pick.
That being the case, its not illogical to think that Monty might not be a Jalen Smith fan.
Other than the Monty factor, I'm not sure why Smith gets as much fanfare around here as he does. He's ok, and Detroit could make a worse signing, but he's also not a guy that's going to do much to raise the floor of a terrible team. There's a good chance we've already seen his ceiling, and that is a decent rotation player.

Re: Free Agency
lol I forget Monty coached him. You’re probbaly right on him hitting his ceiling, never know tho. That kind of thinking is why I don’t think he would cost to much. I’d be surprised if we get any big name(s)thesack12 wrote:Granted the Suns had a very talented roster and was more concerned with winning games than developing young player, however Monty Williams sure didn't seem like he was real interested in giving Jalen Smith minutes when they overlapped in Phoenix. He is clueless on defense
